people of colour deserve to be able to enjoy fluff and escapism and transformative media and silly fandom stuff the same way that everyone else is allowed to, i think. there’s a lot of unexamined hostility toward anyone who isn’t white; sometimes it’s subtle, and sometimes it’s not. there needs to be far more love and support for poc, and far less defensiveness and tolerance regarding racism in spaces like these.

If you're not black, black people already assume youve said nigga or its variant at least once in your life. If they're interacting with you and bringing something up, its because they want you to stop doing that so they can still interact with you(if ur already friends)

july is disability pride month. it is also summer in the northern hemisphere, and this summer we have seen record breaking hot temperatures across the globe. it might be apt to remember that disabled people are a population vulnerable to extreme weather, and significantly more at risk of death or health issues during a heatwave. "the global mortality rate of people with disabilities in natural disasters is up to four times higher than people without disabilities." (source). disability may increase the relative risk of a heatwave more than old age, socioeconomic status, and being outdoors (source). even in the places most affected by the rising heat, disabled people are barely included in action plans for public safety, if at all (source). global warming is a an issue that affects a wide range of people, but let's not forget it is also a disability rights issue

Text post so it's likely to get buried, but I feel the need to bring this up now before it becomes too rampant.

I've seen a couple posts of people calling/referring to Blue (deltarune) as a Bear or other hyper masculine terms. This is an issue I see a LOT in fandoms, where black characters are hypermasculanized, or their femininity is erased. This sort of characterization is deeply rooted in racism. I don't think that most of these people have ill will when saying these things, but I need to point them out because it is very rampant in fandom spaces in general.

A character being black does not make them masculine. Blue is a very very feminine man, and it makes me very upset to see his femininity be erased in favor of stereotypes and subconscious racism.

There's many other, better sources online, but if you're confused and have never heard of this before, Hypermasculanizing black characters is rooted in systemic racism. It's been a way to strip black people (and especially black women) of their identities and human traits, and reduce them to "violent", "hateful", and "stupid". It's why the "mean black girl" and "dangerous black man" stereotypes came into being. I know that there's more to talk about on this subject, but I'm not the best person to hear it from, and I don't feel comfortable being the only person you're getting this information from.

Blue is a very compassionate, feminine, and loving man, and reducing him to hypermasc terms like a "Bear" end up erasing everything that MAKES him him.
