"All drugs are drugs" = a surprisingly radical position that will upset people right across the political spectrum
This means:
If you draw a hard line between "drug" and "medicine" based on current legality where you live (or any other criteria) you've gone wrong somewhere,
If you think legality and/or prescription status tells you all you need about a substance's capacity to do massive harm to someone's body, mind or well-being you've gone wrong somewhere,
If you think legality and/or prescription status tells you all you need about a substance's capacity to contribute meaningfully to someone's healing, function or happiness you've gone wrong somewhere,
If you think certain substances should be excluded from informed consent (either withheld or forcibly administered) you've gone wrong somewhere.

Early Adventure Time Episode: finn discovers a squirrel that can burp like a human and names it Burpin Mike. he uses Burpin Mike to prank jake, but takes the prank too far and learns a lesson about boundaries.
Late Adventure Time Episode: Burpin Mike's burping talent has netted him a lucrative career as a political spokesperson in the candy kingdom. the job brings him success, but he hates himself for selling out his talent. he is depressed, and at one point is implied to be suicidal. none of Adventure Time's main characters appear in the episode.

going to start a "good plants for people with ADHD" masterpost based on what's survived me
i kept a spider plant alive for all four years of college which is remarkable because i barely kept me alive for all four years of college. highly recommend. not toxic to cats but may be hallucinogenic for them so that's hilarious. they grow little babies and it's cute. comes in a curly variety
both mini monsteras (monstera adansonii and raphidophora tetrasperma) are fabulous. mine grow like weeds
honestly their daddy is pretty robust too (monstera deliciosa)
pothos (epipremnum aureum). your mileage may vary on this one because i do inevitably murder them but they are supposed to be easy and they tend to droop when they need watering (helpful visual reminder). they come in a lot of fun varieties
heart leaf philodendron is really similar to a pothos but ime harder to kill
fittonia (nerve plant) is colorful and also tends to dramatically flop to the ground when it's been underwatered (but recovers quickly once you remember to water it). honestly i routinely forget about my mostly-fittonia barbie dream terrarium and it's thriving
ponytail palms. i toss mine outside in the spring/summer and after that it's happy for the rest of the year. cat friendly i think
syngoniums come in a crazy number of varieties in all kinds of colors and sizes, they're low light, and they're not fussy. this is the other resident of the barbie dream terrarium that i forget about all the time
aglaonemas are maybe a little higher maintenance than the others, but they're pretty and they can hang in there for quite a while. i had one for years that was very happy in my cubicle with no window
snake plants (sansevierias) are basically plastic plants but alive. i was shocked recently to learn that one of mine had grown babies because they basically do nothing (and need nothing) most of the time
ZZ plants are probably the ultimate ADHD plant. i forgot one in my antique booth for six months with no sunlight and never watered it and it's still happy as a clam. they come in a cute little mini variety called zenzi and a goth variety too
good luck and try not to kill them
#plants #i need them that doesnt need much light too because my apartment faces the north #and i live in sweden so half the year it's like .... yeaaaah not a lot of daylight #will research more
tbh i would consider most of these plants relatively low light plants! variegated varieties (the ones with lighter and darker patches) will struggle more but yeah. snake plants and ZZ plants would be my top picks for you probably
you might also want to look into grow lights! some of them are pretty cute and they can come with automatic timers
hope this helps!
#plants #i need some plants so bad!!! i definitely worry about my cat getting into them though #so maybe some of them hanging plants đ
none of the plants on this list are super dangerous to cats (like lilies or sago palms â i would never bring those into a house with cats)
that being said, these three are completely non-toxic per the ASPCA Poison Control:
Spider Plant
FIttonia
Ponytail Palm
the rest of the plants may cause nausea/vomiting/diarrhea (snake plants specifically) or oral irritation/difficulty swallowing/vomiting (the rest of them).
i've kept all of these plants in a home with a cat, but not one who's very determined to eat plants. so it might be worth starting with those three and seeing how it goes
a couple of other cat-friendly, easy-to-care-for plants that didn't make the list for no real reason:
Peperomia obtusifolia (baby rubber plant)
Pilea peperomioides
i've kept both and an confirm they're pretty hardy. my Pilea is one of my longest standing plants at this point despite some hardcore neglect
anyway hope this helps and say hi to your cat for me
are you guys hearing about this dude working to developing a vaccine for cats that he's hoping would like. theoretically double their lifespans?
turns out i wasn't making that up, his name is Dr. Toru Miyazaki! he also wrote a book called "The Day Cats Live To Be Thirty", so cats are kind of his thing.
apparently, cats' kidneys tend to be the thing that takes them down, something about their bodies being unable to self-clean their kidneys, and the vaccine is supposed revitalize the body's ability to do just that. It would be very VERY fucking cool to have cats suddenly reaching 30 years of age be the normal thing.
As they age, almost all cats develop kidney disease, from which they eventually die. Just as in humans, kidney disease i
Dr. Toru Miyazakiâs AIM injection for cat kidney disease enters trials in 2025, aiming for a 2027 release. Greycoat Research supports the sc
whoa wait i actually read the articles and it's so much cooler than just that!!
dude cracked the case about WHY kidneys fail, across the board as far as i can tell. turns out there's a specific molecule whose job it is to attach to waste and signal macrophages to come eat it. it remains inactive in cats for some reason, but the molecule is still there. basically what he's done is found the switch to activate them. this will be profound not only for our domestic babies, but for big cats too - especially cheetahs!
although his research was focused on cats, it's already being used to develop drugs for humans too!
on top of that, since these molecules are tags for waste, this could also dramatically lower the rate of fatty liver disease, liver cancer, urinary crystals, rheumatoid arthritis, and even some neurological cases! like, they're hoping it may have an impact on parkinson's and alzheimers, but it DOES have an impact on stroke recovery. like. holy shit.
furthermore, he's insisting that the feline drug be affordable if and when it rolls out onto the market. he wants this to be something anyone can get for their cat!! idk how much sway he'll have over the human drug, but hopefully enough that it, too, won't be that expensive.
annnnnd in his research that he's still doing for the human side of things, he's found a potential link between this molecule and estrogen. in the 20,000 samples he's tested, women between ages 10 and 29 had the highest amount of this molecule present in their blood (a higher amount means Something Fucky is going on, essentially. There's a higher amount of waste the body is trying to clean out) but it drops down to be almost equal amongst men and women after menopause. it hasn't been looked into yet, but fuck, just the fact it's noted and known and probably WILL be looked into soon??? imagine if this is what leads to figuring out all the various ways the ovaries and uterus fucks with people and how to fix it. or even like, maybe there's something about estrogen that makes it work better. who knows! but it's rad the link is there to be researched :D
man just think, not only could our kitties start living longer, healthier lives, but just maybe dialysis will become as rare and obsolete as the iron lung is for people. what a badass Dr. Toru is!
"But I don't want to turn people into dinosaurs. I wanna cure kittie kidneys!"
Update: So they have done clinical trials and have submitted it for approval as of april 2026. They are expecting it to be available late 2026/early 2027

theyâve been working on a fucking prank on me since april iâm so goddamn indignant
tell them what the prank was, clare
so for fucking months now weâve been saying we were going to watch Blade, because iâd never seen it, but somebody was always too tired or too busy, but tonight we decided fuck it, tomorrowâs ciaranâs friday, letâs watch Blade
the first 40 minutes or so pass with many a delighted exclamation. stan lee was credited & iâm told blade was a marvel property, which is news to me. iâm thoroughly enjoying myself. the cop familiar gets the shit beat out of him & tells blade to check the fridge. the wind roars as the scene transition fades to black.
in fades a helicopter. a man with long dark hair on crutches emerges from it. i do not immediately recognize the man, but from the crutches & the hair i immediately go âmorbius??â
they assure me he isnât morbius. i accept that they donât want to admit heâs morbius for some reason (maybe they just donât want me to think blade is in the mcu?) as the entirety of michael morbiusâs backstory plays out on screen.
i repeatedly ask âokay but this is literally morbius rightâ and âwhy are you doing thisâ as it becomes increasingly clear that we are now, somehow, watching Morbius (2022). everyone continues to insist itâs Blade (1999) until finally i ask âhow long were you planning thisâ and logan says âyou wanna know how longâ and gives me a screenshot
fucking months of me genuinely wanting to watch the movie Blade (1999) with my friends and they goddamn Blorbius me. I got Blorbiused.
âWhen we were kids, the Phonics Wizard came to our town to show off how the letter E can change the sounds of vowels. He turned a can into a cane, a pin into a pine. This one kid had a cap and he changed it into a cape, that kind of thing.
âAnd we loved it, we were all having a great time, but then he saw my sister and I, and he just got this - this look in his eyes, and then-â
She hesitated, worrying the coarse material between her fingers. âThings got pretty bad after that,â she muttered. âI know itâs silly, but I try to keep - her - comfortable. We donât know if she can still hear us, or see us, or if sheâs even still in here, but I like to think she is. I talk to her when I can, I leave music on when Iâm out of the house. I tried to convince my parents to bring her with us when we went to Disneyland, but they didnât - didnât really take that well.â
After a moment, she put the ball of twine back onto its pillow. âAnyways. They tried to arrest the Phonics Wizard, but he had a plan in case something went wrong and he turned it into a plane and flew away.â
I promise you things will get so much better when you start processing peopleâs behavior as information rather than a verdict on your self-worth. If someone doesnât text back, suddenly pulls away, whatever it may be, the solution isnât to put on a tap dance for them and try to regain their approval. Itâs not to crash out on them and try to force them to react a certain way. Itâs just to take a step back, take a deep breath, and assess what this tells you. Whatâs this saying about them? Whatâs this saying about you??
