Some days I feel like I’m 29 feet away from a Japanese radish
fuck y’all for making me google this but also same
one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.
DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.
One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.
But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.
shrek was so ahead of its time
My dad was eating pistachios so I reached my hand out and he just started peeling them and giving them to me. Then suddenly went "I really hope you find someone who loves you a lot" and I went "enough to peel my pistachios for me?" And he laughed and said "yeah exactly" before carrying on giving me more
The Raincoat
by Ada Limón
When the doctor suggested surgery
and a brace for all my youngest years,
my parents scrambled to take me
to massage therapy, deep tissue work,
osteopathy, and soon my crooked spine
unspooled a bit, I could breathe again,
and move more in a body unclouded
by pain. My mom would tell me to sing
songs to her the whole forty-five minute
drive to Middle Two Rock Road and forty-
five minutes back from physical therapy.
She’d say, even my voice sounded unfettered
by my spine afterward. So I sang and sang,
because I thought she liked it. I never
asked her what she gave up to drive me,
or how her day was before this chore. Today,
at her age, I was driving myself home from yet
another spine appointment, singing along
to some maudlin but solid song on the radio,
and I saw a mom take her raincoat off
and give it to her young daughter when
a storm took over the afternoon. My god,
I thought, my whole life I’ve been under her
raincoat thinking it was somehow a marvel
that I never got wet.
first of all, what a beautiful poem and addition to this post... secondly my dad is in another country rn and i miss him so much. we talked just now and i told him he’s popular and that he’s making people cry, at which point his own eyes welled up. he also asked me to be nice to all of you, be a good support and to be loving.
so i hope you all know that there is lots of love in the world and it will come to you. maybe not always in a parental form, but it exists in so many places. i hope you all find people who love you in big ways and small. and if you feel that love isn’t around you, be that love. for yourself, and others. i promise, similarly loving people will be drawn to you like a moth to a flame. be well, friends
I hope this e-mail finds you standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe.

One of the more rage-inducing things neurotypicals do is spend years drilling it into you to pay attention to what’s being implied instead of only what’s stated, but if you start to develop that skill and use it to point out when they’re being subtly shitty to you, they react like you’re just making shit up to slander them, doesn’t matter how thoughtfully you explain how you got to that conclusion, doesn’t matter how much benefit of the doubt you give them, the only response they will ever give is "but I did not say those literal exact words so obviously I could not have meant or been thinking anything like that. Stop putting words in my mouth"
They THOUGHT they wanted me to read between the lines and understand what they weren’t saying, but then they realized that what they actually wanted was for me for to simply behave in the ways they expected without having to communicate those expectations to me.
Understanding leads to opinion having, and they never like it when I have opinions on How They Do Things.

If you don’t see it—racism, misogyny, classicism, ableism, spiritual abuse—then you didn’t have to see it. The biggest lie you can tell yourself and others is, “It didn’t happen to me, therefore it never happens.” That keeps you from seeing and keeps others from being heard.
I know what most people are thinking. Two kids, 3,000 miles apart for four years? No way. They’ll never make it. But we’re not like those other couples. We’re Lara Jean and Peter. And besides, you know one thing 3,000 miles is good for? Writing love letters.
FILMS WATCHED IN 2021 » To All The Boys: Always And Forever, dir. Michael Fimognari
I love these movies but there is no couple less likely to survive 3000 miles than these two. They literally broke up in all 3 movies and have terrible communication.
