How to Put on a Wig and Not Want to Die

Heyo!

I am here today to show you how to put on a wig and, well, not want to stab yourself in the eye afterwards. The thing with wigs, is they’re essentially like everything else in cosplay: in order to finish with a good result, you need to start with a good beginning. So, here we go.

For the attachments on my vambraces I used leather straps, but since I needed to get my arm in I added elastic to one end to allow some stretch. When it’s on my arm there’s no evidence of the strapping which is how it looks in game. I’m really happy with how it tuned out.

Armored Shoes

1. Wrap the shoes with plastic wrap (Saran Wrap).

2. Cover it with masking tape and make the patterns, then cut them.

3. Glue them to the shoe. I used to use hot glue but they will end up falling so now I use barge cement and it works very well.

4. When you get everything on place cover it with 2-3 layers of Mod Podge. Claws are made of eva foam and they were sculpted with a dremmel.

DIY Tattoo Tights/Stockings Tutorial

Sorry for not posting often! :( But as promised, here’s another easy DIY tutorial! :) I’ve been seeing this trend for quite sometime now and I think it really looks cute ! I’ll be teaching you how to transfer your design/drawing on to your stockings. If you want to use a design you found on the internet, please make sure you’re going to use it personally / do not make any form of profit from the material — better yet, contact the artist and ask permission if you can use his/her illustration/design :) Art theft is not cool. There are dozens of sites that provide stock illustration/vector/materials — all of which you can use! (Make sure to read the copyright/description before downloading and using any)

MATERIALS:

• Tights / Stockings (nude or beige)

• Fabric Pen (Available in bookstores / office warehouse)

• Carton / Used folder

• Masking Tape ***

STEP 1:

Print out your design (8.5” x 11”). If you’re using a black pen, it’ll be better if you print it out in gray/light color so you won’t get confused when you’re tracing over the design.

After printing out the desired design, tape the sheet on to your carton/folder. Make sure to tape all sides to avoid any paper movements.

STEP 2:

Once attached, roll up your carton until you form an arch.

Tip: You can measure the arch width using your thigh :p

Tape both sides to hold the cartons form/ hold it in place

Step 3:

Insert your carton inside the leg of your stockings.

Make sure to push it down to the area where the stockings start to get thinner. *see dotted lines ~ Please note that the area above the dotted lines will not be visible unless of course you’re going commando/no shorts/no skirt HEHE :p

Step 4:

Grabe your fabric pen and carefully trace over the lineart :)

PS: Buy the fine tip pen to make tracing details easier.

Be patient! :))

Step 5:

Allow the ink to settle in and dry overnight *just to be sure* although it dries as fast as 5 min ._. hihi

Cosplay is not something for you to consume and determine. Cosplay is for the cosplayer themselves, not you. They are sharing something of theirs with others. You don’t HAVE to appreciate it. It’s not actually FOR you. That’s what the game/series/cartoon was for. 

It’s a FAN work. Not a product for you.Also, making the statement ‘I’m getting tired of sexy cosplays or sexy genderbends’ is ignorant considering how VARIED cosplay is. Cosplay is so big and mainstream now that one can argue that there are tons of sub-genres and types of Cosplaying. And one is not better than the other – they aren’t to be COMPARED. It’s an altogether different type of cosplaying.Sure, there are tons of sexy cosplays out there.

Practice good cosplay habits: At the con

☆ Try and arrive early☆ If you’re staying at a hotel or at someone’s house/apartment, try and get there an hour or two early. This way you can unwind a bit after travelling, especially if you’ve travelled for a while, and unpack a bit. Hang up those outfits and maybe take the time to iron out some of your pieces that might have gotten wrinkled in travel. On the Friday, most conventions start at 5pm and if you have places to be, like if you’re running a panel, you really need to plan your time wisely. Especially if you need to pick up your registration badge.

Special tip: If you’re staying at a hotel, try calling the day before or day of to see if you can get an early check in. Most places have a check in time of 3pm so having a few extra hours can really be beneficial to you so you can rest a bit, go get your badge and spend sometime putting on your cosplay.

☆Get to know your location☆ In the little program books you pick up when you go to get your convention badge, you usually get a book that shows the location to specific offices, panel rooms and attraction rooms and halls. This is pretty important if you need to talk to the staff about an issue or if you have an anxiety/panic disorder. Knowing where to go when you need help will just take that bit of stress off when and if something does go wrong. Also it helps you find the room for the panel of the new anime you’ve been really into.

☆ Eat, like seriously☆ You’ve probably heard this a whole bunch of times before, but keeping yourself fed and hydrated is good for everyone. I usually get hangry (hungry/angry) if I haven’t eaten for a while and I can be pretty hard to be around especially if it’s 8pm and I haven’t eaten all day. I also get really severe headaches when I don’t eat so it’s really important to me to have something in my stomach so I can make the most out of my con experience. You might have a medical condition that requires you to take your medicine with food or another reason. It might be hard sometimes pulling yourself away from all the awesome things happening, but try your best to keep your body in decent shape.

Special tip: I’ve tried to make it a personal rule to have one decent meal that weekend. I usually end up eating a bunch of junk food and fast food so having a decent meal with some veggies is doubly helpful.

☆ Bring your absolute essentials with you☆ If your hotel is a bit far away, it’s really essential to bring a small bag or backpack with you to hold some of your essentials. Things like: your phone, wallet, a small pill box for medicines, badge, water and maybe some makeup can really save your butt from constantly having to go back to your hotel. Bring a bag big enough that after putting in your essentials you still have some room for other items, such as merchandise from the dealer’s room. I recommend getting a small backpack or a tote bag with a zipper.

Special tip: If you’re wearing a long wig or have delicate pieces of your cosplay on your neck, torso or shoulder areas, consider using a tote bag since you won’t be slinging it over your shoulders and back.

Cosplay Workspace Organization and You

Cosplay is a lot of fun right? But when you start getting lots of materials your workspace can start to get overrun if you don’t have anywhere to put them. You end up having spools of thread going everywhere and your small sewing bag is now busting at the seams. So what do you do? You need something to hold all your stuff

I love to organize things and I’ve found a really good system that works for me. Now since most of my cosplay stuff is sewing based, my organizational items reflect that. If you’re more into prop making or wig styling, your area should fit to accommodate you. 

Beneath the Read More is some items that might be helpful on keeping your workspace neat and tidy! I’ll be including links to items I find helpful as I go on. One thing before I begin, you don’t need to buy every organizational tool at once, it’s best to buy things as you need them.
