Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Supernatural (TV 2005) Rating: Explicit Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Castiel/Dean Winchester Additional Tags: Accidental Voyeurism, Masturbation, Friends to Lovers, meg is a lying liar who lies, Repressed Feelings, Pining, Communication Summary:
Cas leaves work early and sees something he shouldn't when he gets back to the apartment he shares with his best friend. When he hears Dean call his name, he thinks he's been caught out, but then he wonders if maybe Dean called his name for another reason.
I? Wasn't? Following? You? Anyway. Fixed now. <3
You? Are? A? Dork? Anyway. Never fix that. ♥
Hi! I know that this is super, but tbh, I'm at times technologically deficient, and I didn't know how else to contact you to ask this question. We've communicated via AO3 commentary before (which you do with many people, so I realize that that doesn't necessarily set precedence.) It's an odd question, certainly, and feel free to say no! I'm working on a long SPN fic of my own rn. It's difficult to explain, but it involves a lot of meta. I'm wondering if I can quote one of your lines in it?
This is probably too old to matter, but yes you may Lol
Hello. I don't have anything to ask I just needed to tell you something.... is this where I do that? I don't use this site much, obviously. Anyway, so I was on Ao3 reading A Bit of Advice, again. I got distracted and ended up on your Tumblr then went to the list of fics you wrote and realized, "dude I've read most of these and they're incredible." So then I had to go back to your Ao3 profile and subscribe. Now I'm back here because I had to tell you, you're awesome. So I'm gonna go now. Bye. :)
I have no idea how long this has been here or if I answered it at some point or not, but ALL THE HEART EMOJIS THANK YOU SO MUCH
The J2 panel is up on YouTube. Look for gayled-it. The question was for Jensen and wanted to know when Dean knew Cas was in love with him. He answered normally and then J*red stepped all over him and started spewing some really horrible stuff. Jensen then swerved back as best he could with his usual "up for interpretation" reply and the heavenly comment. It was an absolute train wreck entirely because of J*red. Jensen's answer was fine and nothing new.
Yeah, I just watched the whole panel for context and Jared really did just jump in and take over completely to veer the question off course.
He was sounding kinda aggressive with it too, but like-- why? Like, the question had nothing to do with him or his character, so why was he speaking to it at all? And then for him to speak on it and get all agro about it? Like, fuck off dude ... this ain't about you!
From Jensen's answer, he was perfectly equipped to speak for himself, so Jared had no reason to cut in. It was obvious that Jensen kept wanting to jump in and take the question back as Jared was ranting, but couldn't get a word in edgewise. However, right at the beginning, Jensen did acknowledge for both himself as well as Dean that Dean did know at the very end that Castiel loved him. Yes, he also said that he considers that love to have been something beyond the scope of human perception, and that "romantic" is just a way for us to describe his angelic feelings in a way we can understand; but from the whole of his answer-- between the interruptions from Jared, it would seem like he believes that Dean believes Cas's love could be romantic just as much as it could be anything else. It is all types of love and more.
I think one of the key things Jensen said though was "I don't think lust is necessarily part of romanticism" which, true. You can have a romantic love without lust, without sex-- and seeing Castiel's confession as romantic but not sexual, is totally fine. And it seems like that was the way Jensen was leaning ... if Jared would have just shut the fuck up, Jensen could have continued that thought and explained more of his perceptions; but Jared took that very valid statement and mutilated it. He went on to basically say that all the love seen on the show was strictly non-romantic as well as non-sexual, thereby erasing a bunch of characters' identities in the process and completely discounting the reason the woman asked the question in the first place.
Now, I don't think anyone could honestly call Supernatural a "romance" yet, it sounded like that was the fight Jared thought he was fighting? Yeah, I get that between Wincest and Destiel, romantic, as well as sexual lights have been cast on the show and its characters since it started, but anyone who claimed that either of those ships were the sole purpose of the show would get laughed out of any room they sat in. Yet, Jared acted like he was fighting for the show's virginal honor and I sorta wanted to punch him in the face for it.
No, I don't think Jensen's answer overall was perfect or completely devoid of problems, but I do think that most of his answer's problematic areas came out AFTER he started yank the whole thing back from Jared's little tirade.
I truly don't know where Jared gets off speaking on behalf of not only these character's he didn't play, but also any part of the queer community as a whole.
It's one thing for Jensen and Misha to say that their characters are or are not something, especially after playing them for so long. They are not the final-say in the characters' biographies of course, and like Jensen said-- the show and its characters have a beauty in their openness for interpretation. We, as viewers, can then either agree or disagree with their opinions on their own characters, but they do have an authority on them that even we don't have. It's an entirely different thing for someone who has no authority on those two characters, or those characters' plot lines, to then come in and preach about them like they were birthed from his brain and his brain alone.
Jared truly took that question, lit it on fire and used it as ammunition against several groups of people who were simply just existing; and worst of all, others applauded him for it afterwards-- so now he's going to do it again and again and expect a standing fucking ovation.
Fuck, I'm so fucking angry.
Here's the thing though. He didn't just let Jensen answer and then shit on it. HE TRIED TO TAKE THE QUESTION FROM THE JUMP. People laughed when he asked "You want me to take this one?" But look at his face. He was serious. He truly thought that he, a person whose character was in no way involved in Cas and Dean's relationship dynamic, should field that question. Solely so he could shit on it, apparently.
shut your pie hole, harold
I was already burnt out on Jared courting conservative demos for walker, his overmarketing of his sand water, his twitter meltdown and his taxidermied chicken in the bathroom but I gotta say--that was bad. And not "cuz Destiel."
Antis will, of course, say it's about Destiel, because we know they have no convictions. They'll misgender and deadname/wrongname anyone they think is "deserving", delete comments from queer creatives and whatever else suits their agenda while retweeting AOC to blend in as civilized monkeys.
So first things first let's get out of the way that if any wincels pop up on this post to posture and try to lick their wounds about the "not about incest" comment, don't humor them, or elevate their age old homophobic dialogue to appearing legit or worth stage in the debate.
This is for the actual people with like, morals, and shit. Things they believe in. Don't just say or lipservice, but act, and do, and work through natively, as a first instinct, not a performative mask.
Jensen's response isn't innately GREAT, but it wasn't disqualifying and frankly tried to convert Jared's miscellaneous unwitting phobic rantings into something less awful without outright slapping his coworker on stage, though the facerubbing looked like he was REAL close.
But Jared? Jared that was a whole basket of fuckery. Not only did you springboard into a conversation that you are literally the last related party in (none of the related characters), or immediately sexualize the queerness of minors a mother was trying to represent--
--one mistake from a cishet man mispeaking, that's fair. Look we all fuck up, phrasing can trip the best of us. But no. He kept on. It's like he didn't know how to stop his mouth from running. Somehow, in one breath and one answer to a question not for him, he did all that, basically slapped any like trans men that haven't completed meto, disregarded the ability for queer love in asexuals, and I don't even know what the fuck else. Oh yeah, did the one thing GLAAD tells you very stringently not to do and try to conflate homosexuality to incest. I don't think that's consciously what he meant to say, but it's the base of his thought process revealed.
Sure, great. The show's not about incest. All but 2 dozen brainless child porn watching brotherfuckers already knew that. But you literally just tried to unweave the work of a gay man AND a (self-unlabeled, umbrella) queer actor THAT PLAYED IT. IT'S GAY, HAROLD.
You are literally the least qualified person in this conversation. You didn't play the reciprocating character, you didn't play the discussed character, you aren't the one talking about your gay kids, why the fuck are you rolling over Jensen?
Is Jensen's answer great, no. Like the Pristine Lustless Gays take--given, mostly springboarded from Jared's word vomit and converted outward to elevate it--aged out in like 2001. But Jensen did actually give another standard queer take here: that sexuality and romanticism (eg "lust vs love") are not themselves perfectly correlated or exclusionary. Hence you know. The sexual-romantic axis. The years of "THE GAYS JUST WANT HEDONISM" that is actually implicit in the subtext of what Jared jumped to from go made that a familiar, wide topic.
The familiar face rubbing of stress, anxiety and reservation that used to hit Jensen a lot more when he was younger and shyer but resurged again with a tick of torqued lips of either anger or distaste. Jensen wasn't happy.
Do I wish Jensen had taken a bolder stance than the idea of like sure hets if you wanna het it you can interpretations are equal, yes. Did Jensen at least frame his in queer dialogue, yes, just a few years dated compared to modern buzz.
Like it's 2021 and the gays are allowed to want love AND fuck that's fine. But one of these two was wildly phobic to like 3 parts of the queer community and broke multiple DO NOT DO of queer rules. One was slightly dated queer talking points trying to patch over it.
But like, that's it. I'm done. Oh, I even forgot to include him managing to make BLM about him somehow in the past or seeing a story about kids and cages and deciding the cops struggle was done and-- I could go on. I won't. But this? Nah, sorry. I was already distanced from him but there's a certain amount of repugnant I can tolerate in one dose and Jared vaulted past that into outer space tonight.
And J1ers will scream and say it's hate and do anything they can do to reroute the conversation without actually addressing any of the above issues, they'll try to pick out some fractal part of the structure and argue it to bits or purposefully invert queer talking points.
But it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you like a show, or a character, or even if you like(d) an actor. Nobody is obligated to continue following, supporting, consuming content from someone who rather than getting better and learning doubles down.
And minding the length of the list, people have given a LOT of fucking clearance already. I think it's mostly the brazen magnitude of this level of phobic cockup. Fandoms aren't abusive relationships. You aren't obligated to take that shit and keep supporting.
The fandom abusers, who coincidentally ship the abusive ship, and watch abusive porn, and who get off on abuse and homophobia when it suits them, they're irrelevant. No matter how they beat on you, you're not "less of a show fan" for not choking down phobic rhetoric with a smile.
I know people that blocked Jared for their mental health tonight. That's fair. And I want to reinforce that actually. Nobody is obligated to keep following after that because of some public illusion of fandom. TV doesn't supercede the real world.
Everyone, take care of yourselves, but You Are Valid.
Some cishet rich white dude's inability to tolerate when a conversation isn't about him--be that BLM, queerness, or a spinoff--is his problem. It's not yours. And it's definitely not your responsibility to either endure it or worse argue with the spineless, Janus-faced, nullifidians that want so desperately to be relevant in the field of debate that they reveal their native amoral default in search of gratification.
Outside the vortex of SPN fandom, where this nonsense reverberates infinitely, these talking points, these problems, are already resolved. Wincels or J1ers taking up 1992 republican debate tactics doesn't mean we have to go through it all over again. Don't lift their takes. Don't give them the time of day. Slap them with a rainbow flag if you acknowledge them at all, and don't waste your time, and energy on something or someone that is wilfully obtuse--whether that be a fan, or a celebrity.
don't say it don't say it don't say it...
FUCK
Didn't he doxx a waitress that his fans then dogpiled on all because he got the "worst service"
Someone said it
And a bartender
And an airline attendant
Basically three forms of waiter
Yeah
Is Jared just trying to gaslight everyone into forgetting or does he lack self-awareness? He's literally bullied waiters, waitresses, concierges, airline attendents, bartenders, that assistant at LiveNation. He's doxxed even them. We literally have a picture HE took himself(to dox) of the hotel concierge as he was bullying the guy.
Oh and @bisexualkimdokja it wasn't just "the worst service", per JP, she made him feel, in ways he could never explain, like he was less than human and she was one of the worst people he'd come across in his life(mind you this is pretty much what he ends up saying about everyone he doxxes, like massive "don't you know who I AM!" energy).
But in any case, it just proves he was never sorry for what he did and hasn't changed, just gotten better at hiding it.
Not to mention the hundreds of examples of him not being an open book and lying about pretty much every aspect of his life publicly.
All of the above, but I've uncovered the wincel j1 wanker stan mindset in this:
They're insisting he "apologized" for these. When asked where, the quote was he said that "sometimes he doesn't act right"
Thats
An apology?
*punches Raina in the face*
Sometimes I don't act right
"I'm bleeding"
AKF
*steals spn-ish air conditioner*
Sometimes I don't act right
"Can I have my air conditioner back"
what air conditioner
People who steal air conditioners are jerks
"But he apologized for that!"
when
"Sometimes I don't act right."
YOU CAN NOT FUCKING ADDRESS YOUR BEHAVIOR IF YOU DO NOT *ADDRESS THE BEHAVIOR*. That's like when you force a fucking toddler to apologize. They don't really understand why they're apologizing, they don't know how to adapt the maladaptive pattern because they don't even recognize it IS a maladaptive pattern. You can't just say "Oh I'm sorry for anything I've ever done, whatever it was" dust your hands and walk off and act like you actually fucking changed, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU KEEP DOING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN because you HAVE NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE.
[steals spn-ish's replacement air conditioner]
So anyway my point is, they seem to think it's somehow ~wrong to expect -- EVEN in that COMMENT
he could have been like
"People who are jerks to waiters aren't nice people. And you know, I had a period where I was like that, I didnt think about the people I was impacting. Waiters, even. And I'm sorry, really, but I've tried to do better now that I'm conscious of it, and we can all do better."
No, he just fuckin dropped it like he's never had to apologize and just expects everyone to, idk, brush it under the rug?
"forcing a toddler to apologize" is the PR that happened after he a picked a fight with Jensen on twitter and then proceeded to act like it was only his fans sending hate to the Ackles while talking like the cared about his "bRoThEr"
We speak often, as we do, about missing speaking often
JP: "This service worker who works on their feet 8O hours a week for a pittance didn't refill my drink quickly enough and now my soul is wounded."
2.9 Million Flying Monkeys: *descend on this service worker, send death threats, tank the bar/hotel Yelp ratings, make the person's life and livelihood utter hell*
JP: *silence for 36 hours*
JP: "Hey, guys, the last thing I ever want is for someone to be harassed or made uncomfortable. Can we all just get along? SPNfamily 5-ever!"
Hey! He's grown! Now it's crosstagged WalkerFamily and includes a Mantra coupon.
It's so gross how JP literally only uses #SPNfamily to pander and sell people AKF junk or promote Wanker (like it'll help lol). It's like him circling back to Shoshanna to be like 'hiiiiiieee miss you bestie! Eileen is as bad a romantic choice for Sam as Ruby was, but love uuuuu!' Fake pizza shit.
This is honestly getting me too. Now those of you who followed my blog know for years I tried to give Jared pass after pass, I played devil's advocate, I tried and tried and tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and, well, he slapped me in the face like kermit.
but on top of all of that, the blatancy of the marketing. To some extent, all content we receive from creators and actors is some kind of marketing, PR or something in the area. It's always something for them to consider as part of their career.
But all you really need to do is compare and contrast. When Jensen or Misha use SPNFamily, it's ... well, in regards to SPN content. Misha doesn't tag his Bridgewater shit SPNFamily every time--I think he did the first time he invited people to listen, which is natural. But SPNFamily with Jared is always tagged to cross promote his shit. Also, early on they were pulling ridiculous stunts to manufacture trends, like Gen posting pictures of their kids and tagging it #Walker, so that the hundreds of heart eye replies made walker trends, when it's literally just YOUR KIDS ARE CUTE. So even their kids are a marketing method for his projects.
SPNFamily is an afterthought with Jared, something he just wants to fuse into WalkerFamily and almost assumes. He posts very little if any content (oh wow he remembered the premiere date, I guess.) for the actual fandom. And at the same time he's trying to sell people dehydrated fruit dust mixed with literal sand and tagging both of them.
It's just... it's all started to feel genuinely gross, even if we remove shit like his July twitter meltdown.
I think I figured out how to voice my frustration and why they're different.
Jensen is in it for the art. He enjoys what he does, and sometimes shares things he had fun with. He doesn't much care exactly how much anyone appreciates anything but shares for those who do, sometimes.
Misha is in it for the people. He enjoys people, helping people, spreading stories and encouragement. His goal is always, vocally and in impact, to make the world better somehow, from charity to messaging. He encourages and engages and wants to enjoy what people love.
Jared is in it for the business. He expects us to be consumers ready to purchase his product or view him in a way for his benefit. Every corner, from SPN fandom, Walker, -- to his own kids -- are all opportunities to promote further product purchase.
I don't know if it's always been like that with Jared -- I've wanted to believe AKF/TWLOHA were genuine, but even hearing him talk about MHI it often sounds like it still somehow orbits around Jared, Jared's perceptions, Jared's needs. I dunno. But that's it, that's the divide, and that's why Jared's been turning me off hard lately.
This last point got me curious about how their social media posts actually stack up as far as marketing goes so I decided to do some investigating. I went through each of their instagrams (it’s the platform they are all fairly active on- I know Jared posts more on Twitter, but Jensen almost never posts there and Misha always post the same content across all sites)
Since Nov. 19th- Jensen has made 30 posts on Instagram. 20 of those posts were some kind of promo (The Boys, Radio Company, etc.) 1 post was for political action. That’s 70% of his SM posts being promo. (67% without the one political post)
Misha has made 145 posts on Instagram (good lord this man is online too much.) 32 of those were for charity (including RA) or political action. 45 were promo (mostly for GISH and for Sound of Metal, but also projects other friends are working on, Bridgewater, other projects but not poetry book) 8 were specifically promoting his poetry book. That’s a breakdown of 22% Charity/Politics, 31% Promo, 6% Poetry specific promo, for a total of 59% of his SM posts being promo.
Jared has made 54 posts on Instragram. Of those 23 were ads for Mantra (42%), 8 were ads for Walker (15%), for a total of 57% of his SM posts being promo.
I think the biggest difference between the three is largely what you’ve already pointed out- Jensen uses social media to promote what he is currently working on. He rarely posts personal posts, and he doesn’t really cross promote.
Misha posts a lot. He promotes a large variety of things, promotes his friends projects, his projects, lots of charity opportunities and lots of political action opportunities. You can tell he is trying to get information out there. Many of his political posts were the talks he had with various reps or volunteers, like Michelle Kwan or Giles Duley.
Jared posts about half personal and half promo. He had a few Spn posts, which I didn’t count as promo (for any of the three) but largely he promoted his own current projects. He had no posts promoting anything other than walker or mantra in this time frame.
Bingo. If it's not something he's involved with, it doesn't get time on his wall. And that, of course, is without you breaking down the difference in, say, when #SPNFamily is used as a tag and the divergences in that.
And again, per above, I expect people to market things. Everything we consume has some level of market/PR from them. Of course Jensen is gonna post what he's working on, but he's not gonna tag The Boys with #SPNFamily randomly. Misha promotes, but it's not just HIS SHIT. It's his shit, friend's shit, politics, random shit he's done. And they're not all tagged #SPNFamily.
But #SPNFamily, as applied by Jared, seems to treat the fandom as some residual cash cow that's just expected to buy into whatever regardless of if it's an actual interest of theirs. It attaches to the most bizarre shit, like that 42% mantra posting (42%!~!!!!!). And Walker.
I am checking for gay angels and sad boys stabbing ghosts!! I DO NOT WANT YOUR MIRACLE SAND WATER
I can't even consider his personal posts truly personal, because they're all about an image crafted family that Gen markets as well, trying to pass off a good ol fashion millionaire southern boy vibe with his perfect gardening southern belle mommy wife. It is genuinely difficult to determine if anything at all from him is ever genuine. And that's bad. Because even if it isn't genuine, we shouldn't be able to tell. But it's all inorganic.
Ah yes, I too know the difficulties of farming in the south. Oh, wait, you're fucking millionaires? You have your own maids? That table is worth FIVE DIGITS? you TAXIDERMIED YOUR CHICKEN AND PUT IT IN THE BATHROOM???????????? BITCH MY CHICKENS WERE PETS I TOOK TO THE STORE AND LET RIDE ON MY SHOULDERS LIKE PARROTS AND EVEN I DON'T WANT THEIR CORPSES STARING AT ME WHILE I SHIT. BITCH I SEE HOW MANICURED YOUR NAILS ARE YOU AINT PLANT SHIT TODAY
But despite being in the south I'm not that target demographic. . That's a mix of old money, big new money, and antebellum leftover vibes that get romanticized with the pipe dream of "maybe that could be MY southern palace that day" gag me with a spoon it's so transparent.
Fuse that to the "edge of the coin" tepid middle ground narrative of super good cops/rangers/ICE agents and their struggles needing to be understood equally and both sides being valid. To Fox news advertisements for Walker. He's SCREAMING to bring in the republican crowd. When Misha said a friend didn't want to upset his conservative fanbase but Misha couldn't understand that mindset? This isn't hard to fucking figure out. Even Jensen's pasting rainbow flags and shit everywhere when he can which would drive those out. When's the last time you saw pride anything from jared that wasn't a photo op?
It's just. It's bad. It's all bad.
Jensen's more distant, that's fair. But it's all less... telegraphed. Offensively overt. Misha honestly I'd say is the one that breaks the PR sometimes because THAT motherfucker looks like he rolled out of bed and decided to make a tiktok or some shit sometimes. He's not afraid to come out with his hair tossed, or in a bland T shirt, or completely fucking up on a project and having fun with it. If nothing else it feels more organic, less performed and contrived.
But I'm not about to follow Jared down the conservative rabbit hole to buy his overpriced gatorade. Bitch if I want supplements that semi-work-sometimes I'll get amway lmao
Its just fucking sad. Right now, Jared's everything that would mortify the living shit out of Sam Winchester and... He's never gonna get better if he keeps hanging out with his other "friends" who obviously pose a bad influence on him by either reinforcing his shittiness or not calling him out on it and by continuing his current life style tbh. He should like, just take a break from it all. Go somewhere private and safe and just stay out of showbiz for a few years. Stay in a normal house and just be around normal people. Bet he'll sober up real quick after a really bad start I guess.
Now compare and contrast is stuck in my head.
Let's look at the "find the middle ground" messaging.
Walker: edge of the coin, not taking a side, two sides to every story, the dramatic struggle of police inspired by ice agents, instead of the families suffering (in the year of george floyd and anti police activism to fight white supremacy esp in the fraternal order of the police) inevitable moral once they try to tackle cop problems: it's just bad apples
Misha's new movie: focuses on a black man bravely approaching the KKK and teaching them about humanity beyond race without compromising his morals
Yeah. Sorry. And if Walker really was his vision from that article like he said it's even more concerning that of any moral he could take, the poor ICE officer is who he wanted to explore the woes of.
I'm gonna say it. I'm pretty sure Jared is republican. Sure he helped in 2018 but lots of Republicans temporarily jumped ship in late trump years. That or being raised in texas probably red, thinks he's progressive from his rich ivory tower but has no idea the nuances of it (see his self centric blm apology) and is still trapped in that thought box.
Jensen meanwhile is on a show openly shading the piss out of trumpers, the government but heavily Republicans, corrupted Christian culture and more. I don't think he's afraid of scaring off conservatives as he slaps pride flags and activists up all over his company.
To skip way back in this, Idc that he used #spnfamily in his promos, not really, but I certainly do fucking care that he used #akf for a fucking ad. That was the day I was done. Because that shit meant something to me and people I cared about and it was nothing more than a tool for him. I stopped following his wife a long time ago because everything she posted was an ad, but I had kept letting him slide because everyone else seemed to think he was okay (the cast, I mean). There is also the fact he said he probably wouldn't work after he left SPN and then he left SPN to go do Walker, so he just doesn't know anything but lying.
