Valarr is navigating his divorce from Aerion, while coparenting their son, and trying to ignore the sheer amount of dates of Aerion's that he stumbles upon. One of these days, someone is going to get a complex from this and he sure as hell hopes it isn't him.
âI saw Muña!â
Daeron, fiddling with the oven-top, froze. Kiera, holding little Vaella away from the flame where she held her hand out, also froze. Identical expressions fixed on Valarr, who was looking away from them wincing. When he looked back, Daeronâs brows were furrowed.

an excerpt from my valaerion fic ; PYRRHIC VICTORY (working title)
Aerionâs mouth raised in the ghost of a smile, actually finding amusement in the Lannister alpha in front of him. He wasnât charmed by the manâs wit, but it was comical to see how much effort he put into making the Targaryenâs omega laugh to some degree. His scent mixed with the crowdâs, and Aerion couldnât pretend to be entranced by itâlet alone enough to think him funny. The Lannister was the cousin of the son of a Lord, or whatever complicated dynamic tied him to nobility, and Maekar insisted that Aerion entertain him during the feast.
Looking around, Aerion realized he was stuck in this perpetual cycle of entertaining potential suitors. Never alone, of course. He could feel his fatherâs gaze on him from across the room, no doubt nibbling on some ghastly fruit he favoured as he watched his son. He, along with the rest of Aerionâs wretched immediate family, felt it best that the omega communicate with his future alpha in public.Â
It was to keep him chained.Â
He sighed minutely, looking over at the table where his family sat. The alpha Lannister didnât notice his discontent, instead continuing his spiel into nonsense that he mustâve believed Aerion laughed at. Aerion froze for a moment when his eyes flitted over Valarr. The man was watching them with such an intensity a heat started burning through Aerionâs body, before their eyes met.Â
Aerion could see the question in them, and he nodded once before turning back to the Lannister. He relaxed more then, focusing on the conversation once again. Before the next song was over, Aerion would be seated at the table again.Â
âMy prince,â the Lannister droned on, âthe bay is beautiful from outside the tower. On the brightest of days, you can see great distances and enjoy the sunâs heat down on your shoulders.â The air shifted slightly when he finished. Aerion nodded faintly, before a new voice entered their conversation.Â
âPrince Aerion,â it called. Valarr. He didnât speak loudly, but his voice carried. It effectively cut off the droning of the Lannister, whose voice faltered slightly when the Crown Princeâs heir walked up to them.
My favorite quirk of American English is that since we're constantly exaggerating, sometimes it's more intense to say something slightly less intense. Because like, it means you actually thought about it.
"you look great!" - normal. Anyone could say this. Could be true or could just be lying to be nice. Very normal expected thing to say to someone
"you look good." - gay as hell thing to say to someone.
