Dinner Scene Piece - 3

He had to figure out what was going on here.

Phenik smiled at Jatár as the noble returned his attention to the conversation, still keeping one wary eye on the Satyr and the Harpies beside him. "Thank you again for inviting us inside. We appreciate your hospitality!"

"And I appreciate you all for accepting. It's such a wonderful coincidence I could run into you all tonight!"

Ronan raised an eyebrow at the strange phrasing as Wild complimented the food quietly. Behind Jatár, a girl in a sleeveless tunic rested a hand on the hilt of her sword. She looked to be his guard. Her eyes narrowed in suspicion, but the slight lift of her brows and her white knuckles betrayed fear. What did she have to be afraid of?

Unless something was about to happen. But what could happen? Jatár was a kind --if a little weird - host, and none of their group had made an attempt to do anything out of the ordinary; at least, not yet.

"It is indeed quite strange, I've heard news of it, but I don't think I've ever seen one. The people in town have taken to calling it Starfell."

"Really? What an odd name." Rose swirled the glass in front of her, eyeing its contents.

"An odd name for an odd event. I've heard that after it, some strange artifacts were found."

Mangrove perked up at the mention of artifacts, and Rose narrowed her eyes. "You wish to find them."

"Don't we all?" Jatár relaxed in an easy grin, though by the way his fingers dug into the wood of his chair, he couldn't be very aloof about the subject. "In itself, the concept of fallen stars is a fascinating subject."

"I can't disagree. But what do you think you would do with one? They must have great power, whatever they are."

Jatár and his guard glared at her in a strange way. "I suppose I would simply like to enforce peace in my home with it. What other use would a star have? Leveling cities? Punishing prisoners? Transforming a man into a god?" Mangrove flinched. "What use would I have of any of that? There are clearly better candidates for godhood."

Eerily enough, as Ronan stretched his magic toward the man, he found no lie in his most recent words. He didn't believe himself worthy of being a god. "Why would you want it? Is there perhaps someone in your group who values power more than life? Who in your party would sacrifice the rest of you for divinity?"

Ronan saw Mangrove's eyes widen, and he scowled. Of course he would.

Mangrove stared at Jatár. Did he know? How could he know? But that wasn't true. Mangrove didn't think power was worth more than them. Did he? They weren't his friends but... were they? He glanced around at all of them, but only Ronan looked at him. Did they think that of him? Was he better than any mortal? Would he sacrifice them for a chance at power?

Rose scowled. Her words startling both Mangrove and Ronan. "No one here would do that."

"Excuse my words, miss. I apologize. It was only reasonable to assume, but I suppose I was mistaken. If I find one, I'll be sure to keep it." He smirked, as if this was his idea of a joke.

Wild tilted his head curiously. "Have you?"

"Now, why would you want to know that? Are you interested in them after all?"

"Well, why wouldn't we be? Aren't we all?" Finn piped in cheerfully, echoing Jatár's words right back to him.

The group spoke with the noble, the conversation eventually shifting to a more mundane subject. But through it all, two people remained silent.

Mangrove stared at his hands in a sort of existential terror, and Jakkon watched Jatár with dead eyes.

I think half of my OC’s would climb a tree of needed, either to get away from something or to use as a vantage point. Now, as a hobby? Feilitet or Camellia(sunset). Both of them like climbing things.

So I just saw a post by a random personal blog that said “don’t follow me if we never even had a conversation before” and?????? Not to be rude but literally what the fuck??????????

I’ve had people (non-pornbots) try to strike conversation out of nowhere in my DMs recently, and now I’m wondering if they were doing that because they wanted to follow me and thought they needed to interact first. I feel compelled to say, just in case, that it’s totally okay to follow this blog (or my side blog, for that matter) even if we’ve never talked before.

Also, I’m legit confused. Is this how follow culture works right now? It was worded like it’s common sense but is that really a thing?

So, I have a question and a comment for you.

First, my question: was there any specific piece of media that inspired some of the fantasy elements/specieses in your story? Like, did you ever read a book and think “oh I really like how they do fairies, I want to do something similar”, or was it more of a sort of whatever mix? (Specifically for this story, but also for your other ones if there are any specific examples. Also, I really love how you made fairies work in this world, I think it’s really cool)

Also: I was doing some planning for a scene involving one of my sad and tortured little guys today, and I found myself thinking “oh yes I am once again visiting Kate and Elia’s Torture Characters Through Drug Problems Club”

So, for the Question:

I read a LOT of fantasy all the time, and I just always loved how Fae worked, and the concept of Faeries, (But this concept of the flower fae was entirely my own - Feel free to use it)

I would Suggest reading: The Cruel Prince Series

Also The book The Wild Huntsboys (It was my favorite book when I was younger, and it's a good book even though it is a little bit immature)

The Iron Fae is a good series for that too, (Though the protagonist is a FUCKING DUMBASS)

Narnia is good for inspo even though it's not about Fae

(And Also, LMFAO, who is Kate, I must speak with her immediately, Would her Character and Jak get along? I must know. And, PLEASE JOIN THE CLUB SO I DON'T FEEL WEIRD BEING OBSESSED WITH JAK ANYMORE)

I’m Kate. She is me. Sorry, should have considered that you didn’t have that context

I have read The Cruel Prince and I did really like how there were so many different kinds of fae in it

And as for if our characters would get along… maybe? I think it would depend on what point in time.

Mine is Asher (Asher T, because I also have an Asher M in another story and I have had to resort to elementary school methods of distinction), and while his trauma does involve loss of family, it was much more during childhood and a lot of his more serious issues arise from what happened afterwards (neglect, abuse at the hands of a rather sadistic captor, and having to grow up way too fast, aka ✨immense childhood trauma✨). The drug problems show up way later, initially to deal with an injury and then as a coping mechanism for his insomnia and nightmares (arising from cPTSD from the ✨immense childhood trauma✨). I think that if he met Jak at that point in his life, they wouldn’t get along (he was really not doing well, and a lot of the angst that I have enjoyed writing was how he forced Maranore, the person who had helped taken care of him since the days of his childhood, away because Maranore rescued him after he almost died from an overdose and then Asher, who was really not doing well at that time, thought that Maranore had overstepped and wished that he had just let him die). But if it was current Asher, who has worked through a lot of his issues and is doing a lot better, I think they might. Asher has done a lot of channeling his bad feelings about his past into a desire to take care of other people who are struggling, so I think that he would probably make Jak coffee and try to feed him an absurd amount of baked good. (Also, they both have horns if that counts for anything!)

This is kind of making me want to post some of my scenes with Asher and his ✨problems✨ (I literally have a document in my writing folder labeled that). I’ve avoided it for the sake of not confusing things with the two characters, but I genuinely think that Asher and Maranore’s fight is one of the best scenes that I have ever written

(Also, I think it would be really funny to see the two of them interact. No real reason, just vibes)
