Last month I caught Covid, and right at the start of my symptoms I saw this post. For the next 8ish days, I was HAUNTED by this song. It played on a loop in my head for hours. I would wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat singing “…mixed with Zach Galifianakis” as it bounced around in my virus-addled brain. It was literally inescapable.

Anyway as soon as that ended, the Morbin Time memes started so you can imagine how that went for me, who would be deliriously sick for another 5 days.

the usual alternative to humanoid mechs is some variant of chicken, spider, or other inspiration from animals, but there's a lot of unexplored territory in robots that don't look quite like either, i think. mechs that look like a building on legs, multi-axis gantry cranes, etc - forms of locomotion only known in machines that lend themselves well to precision handling and other utilities that call for a robot's touch

Amazing. Definitely feels like something that evolved out of industrial machinery instead of out of humanoid robots.

now, of course, this isn't the primary motivator for companies wanting to get their hands on identity verification, but it does bear mentioning that the wet dream of moderation is to have unique keys tied to each user's identity that they can trace a moderation history from, which is part of why everywhere this becomes a norm, all mainstream social networks begin to ask for identity verification and a million anonymous imageboards crop up in the margins

the character ascribed to imageboards as seedbeds of extremism isn't entirely incorrect, but on the whole, I think there may be a grave misunderstanding of what conditions actually lead to the creation of anonymous parallel networks that you're expected to be on in addition to mainstream social networks for the conduct they want to wash their hands of

it doesn't evaporate when you threaten de-anonymisation, but diverts into anonymous channels. the ubiquity of the second location is inevitable when a first location threatens basic conduct, and in effect simply creates a more dangerous environment for everyone because of it, not least of which being minors, who now exist with one foot permanently planted in the second location
