What the heck, I’ll actually do this one.

Nickname: I don’t really go by nicknames. Occasionally I’ll be given one by a group of coworkers or friends or something but I never really use it myself.

Gender: Nonbinary. It’s possible I’ll find a more specific label I like eventually but nonbinary fits well enough.

Part of my job is processing all the new incoming books and putting our property stamp on them and barcodes, so I get to also see all the adorable new kid's books too with wonderful gorgeous art in them but ANYWAYS THIS NEW ONE CAME IN AND

"It Feels Good To Be Yourself. A book about gender identity" written by Theresa Thorn and illustrated by Noah Grigni. The cover shows the four main characters, one is a transgender girl, two are nonbinary in different ways, and one is a cis boy who is the little brother to the trans girl.

I typically don't read the kids books even when they are super cute but this one I HAD to read. So I start reading. And I just--

This book is absolutely beautiful and so sweet and I encourage everyone to go see if they can borrow it at their library. It's a quick 2-3 min read, maybe 15 if you start getting emotional like my queer little heart did. I'm assuming there's a regular print version more widely available, and maybe a LT version too, and if my Hawaii library has a copy of the braille version I'm guessing others already have it too.

OH AND HERE'S THE BACK COVER I DIDNT NOTICE UNTIL AFTER I PROCESSED IT AND THIS PART REALLY GOT ME OKAY (text written below)

#CA:TWS does a really good job of establishing characters’ competence BEFORE they tangle with the WS #Fury evades a coordinated death squad before the WS almost casually blows his car to shit #Steve takes out an entire elevator of STRIKE guys bare-handed before he fights the Soldier and barely holds his own #this also makes Pierce a FUCKLOAD scarier for being someone willing to slap the Soldier around #that movie did a really good job establishing characters’ skill/power levels by showing rather than telling #and they converted those insights directly into suspense in a way the MCU has never done again (via galwednesday)

I don't know what it is about Grim, but she's just got this divine glow to her coloration than any regular brown cat I've seen. She is just a beautiful lady. Also, my favorite thing in this world is seeing videos of Pangur and Grim meowing/screaming gremlin sounds.

Grim’s mother was a snow Bengal (below is a pic of her nursing tiny Grim), but I suspect her dad was a plain ol’ tabby, so you could say that Grim looks like an exceptionally plain Bengal or an exceptionally pretty tabby

and as Grim aged her fur became darker and more heavily ticked, so it’s harder to appreciate her markings when she’s not in direct sunlight. the ticking does make it fun to run your fingers through her fur, as she’s like one of those sequin pillows that changes appearance based on which direction its brushed

How do you communicate when the government censors the internet? With a peer-to-peer mesh broadcasting network that doesn’t use the internet.

That’s exactly what Hong Kong pro-democracy protesters are doing now, thanks to San Fransisco startup Bridgefy’s Bluetooth-based messaging app. The protesters can communicate with each other — and the public — using no persistent managed network.

The app can connect people via standard Bluetooth across an entire city, thanks to a mesh network. Chatting is speediest with people who are close, of course, within a hundred meters (330 feet), but you can also chat with people who are farther away. Your messages will simply “hop” via other Bridgefy users’ phones until they find your intended target.

Pi Zero W is $10 and has built in Bluetooth connectivity. You can find Solar USB Power Packs for ~$25. So for less than $50 and a little time investment to load some programs you can have an autonomous bluetooth repeater. I think they only run at Class 2 or 2.5mw so 10 meter range… but there are DIY solutions to amplify it to Class 1 for 100 meter range. But even at 10 meters, given this sort of program uses a packet delivery system, if you are constantly on the move you’re effectively a postman for the system as it will transmit every time it comes in range of another compatible program.
