So, I ADORE Erik (and at one point had a dream where I married him and was very upset that it wasn’t real life when I woke up) and Charles is just a CUTIE. So, together, they are ONE HOT MESS. AND I SHIP THEM LIKE MAD. BECAUSE THEY OBVIOUSLY LOVE EACH OTHER.

I also ship ALEX AND HANK because they remind me a bit of Drarry :L All that UST and pigtail pulling… *bliss* I WANT TO MARRY THEM ALL. But sadly, this is not possible, so I have to read about them instead *grins*

what really sold me on mormor was that scene after the lighthouse collapses. the way Moran softly says "Professor..." when he finds Moriarty, the way Moriarty reassures him, and how angry on behalf of Moriarty Moran is when he says he'll find Holmes and Watson. That and Moriarty being a fruity ass mf, like sir, do you know it's illegal in your time?

God that scene. That they explicitly paralleled it with Watson finding Holmes when they could have just made Moran not seem to care, but there's an odd degree of tenderness there. That he does call him Professor and not just 'sir'. That he offers his hand to Moriarty like it's instinctive for him to reach for him. That it's only when Moriarty reassures him he's all right that he goes after Holmes and Watson. That Moriarty does bother to reassure him he's all right, he doesn't just yell at him to go after them or something (I feel like a lot of adaptations would have just had Moriarty call Moran stupid or something like that for wasting time checking on him first). That Moran snaps at the other people but his words to Moriarty are showing concern or swearing vengeance for them trying to harm Moriarty, essentially. And just Moran's ferocity immediately after that, his single-minded focus on hunting these people and getting some kind of revenge on them with no thought for his own safety.

And yeah I do think they were maybe coding Moriarty as queer in this, which is very much like the canon. I think again some adaptations would have still tried to give Moriarty some kind of female love interest, maybe even tried to suggest something sexual/romantic had gone on between him and Adler. Instead we have the softly spoken opera and pigeon-loving guy who intimidates Adler without ever touching her and who only gets more hands on with his male 'nemesis' and whose closest companion is another man who is supposedly just a 'gun for hire' yet who is devoted enough to him to get himself shot trying to avenge him even when he already knows Moriarty isn't badly harmed (also: Moriarty saying he likes Switzerland because they respect a man's privacy there. Sir what specifically are you up to there that you need privacy for it?). It's definitely very suggestive.

Everyone talks about how confusing the timelines are in the X-Men movies - I don’t think they’re that bad to be honest - but I’d love to know what happened in the original timeline before X-Men (2000).

The timelines split after DoFP, in the new timeline we see Erik freed from prison, Raven out onto a better path and reunited with Charles, Hank still hiding right the way into Dark Phoenix. We see Charles heal and open the school, and grow into the Xavier that we all know before retiring, but we also see Erik try to heal with a family that he then loses and has to go about getting over that loss; we get to see him come to terms with his rage so that the Erik we get in Dark Phoenix is a much more rounded individual and possibly the furthest from ‘Magneto’ that he has ever been.

I want to know what happened in the _original_ timeline!

How did Erik get out of prison if Logan never went back and convinced Charles to free him? How long was he there for? Did Raven release him when she needed him again following the uproar she started at the Paris Conference? What makes Hank fully embrace the Beast when he couldn’t in the new timeline? How did Charles get over his grief? Who talked him out of the stupor he was in? Did Erik even try to find peace in the original timeline or did he just keep going?

I so desperately need to know!

In First Class, does Erik know that Shaw’s a mutant? ‘Cause he’s hardly prepared and seems shocked when he meets other mutants on Shaw’s yacht in Miami - then says to Charles “I thought I was alone.” Which wouldn’t make sense if he knew Shaw was a mutant. It also doesn’t make sense that when he and Charles are talking over chess the night before Cuba, Erik says that Charles believes all humans are like Moira, then Charles rebukes that by claiming Erik believes they’re all like Shaw - this suggests that prior to the attack at Langley, Erik didn’t know Shaw was a mutant, right?

the most elegant dismissal of “why are there pyramids all over the world” that I’ve heard was “what’s the easiest structure to build? A pile of stuff. What if you wanted to make the pile stable? You’d turn it into a pyramid shape” and I forgot where I heard this but it reminds me of “notice how there’s flood myths all over the world” feels a lot less interesting if you ask “notice how civilizations that leave written records are often located next to rivers or other bodies of water and what’s a catastrophic natural disaster that can happen to cities next to bodies of water”

At first glance i thought he wasn't touching the wheel and just using his powers to turn it for some reason 😭 but i think he's just lightly touching it hang on...

From an actor’s standpoint he’s probably just touching the wheel lightly and I have no idea if Fassbender thought that deeply about it; but from a character standpoint - he’s not touching that wheel 🤣

HOWEVER maybe post dark phoenix or smth Charles would find out about this and personally teach Erik how to properly drive (despite the complaints and how objectively useless actually lessons would be at this point)

Currently studying screenwriting in my free time and am exploring Hollywood Character Designs, which got me thinking about Harry Potter.

Whilst looking at the Strength-Flaw dynamic - which dictates a character whose strengths are also a flaw (like Tony Stark’s genius in weapon building is a strength, until it gets him kidnapped in IronMan and it then becomes a flaw). The character study I chose to explore was Snape.

Snape’s strength is his love for Lily; his flaw is his hatred for James. The two combined are what drive his character arc.

All of this to say that the Lesson of Snape’s character arc is ‘Love is more powerful than hatred’ - a sentiment echoed across many arcs and major plot points in the story.

I find it extremely ironic that She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named wrote a story around a trope she devotes all of her time to shitting on.

Anyway…fuck her.

Been sat here thinking about X-Men as per…

Do you think Erik has a ‘move’? Like in First Class, Charles uses his ‘groovy mutation’ line? Do you think Erik has something similar?

Erik doesn’t exactly hide his mutation. We know two canon relationships that Erik had - Peter’s mum, and Magda. We know Ms. Maximoff knew about Erik’s powers; and that Erik showed his powers to Magda the first time they met - this makes me think his ‘move’ could be showing his powers off (like how smooth the champagne bucket was when displaying his abilities to Angel!

This then got me thinking if there was any moment in First Class where he did this with Charles specifically? Not that I could remember; even though Charles certainly showed his own powers off, for Erik it all seemed to be much more emotional throughout First Class….but then there’s Days of Future Past!

He’s been in prison for almost a decade; he and Charles have fought and argued; they’ve just about made up, and then Erik goes and pulls out a chessboard….and that little movement of his piece whilst maintaining eye contact with Charles like that!

That is a move and a half!
