How I would have ended ME3, a completely unsolicited post.

By now we all know the ending of my all time favorite game series. It all came down to picking from 3 color-coded endings that all felt pretty shallow. The robust theming of the games gets drowned out at the very end, which is too bad because imo the rest of ME3 is a really strong game (I'm playing through it again right now) So how would I end it? Not much of the body of the game would change at all. You spend all your time gathering allies and resources. That feels like the main focus. Find information and build your forces to strike back at the Reapers! A theme I would include is that this cycle seems to have the most sapient organic species of any cycle. Let that be the theme! Let diversity and teamwork be the way we win! Shepard has spearheaded those ideals with their unique and eclectic crew from game 1, so let's see that on a larger scale.

The Reapers aren't fully prepared for the sheer amount of unique perspectives, tactics, and strengths this diverse galaxy can bring to the fight! Let the gathering of resources MATTER for the ending more than just telling us who survived when the credits roll! The more factions you ally with, the better your chances of success! Of finally defeating the Reapers! Like in the ending of DAV (whatever you might think about that game) you not only assign your own team tasks as they fight on the ground with Shep, but you assign your allies tasks as well! The more you have, the better your chances! If you rushed through the game and did the bare minimum, odds are good that the Reapers win! This cycle failed. Maybe you get a message out for the next cycle but that's it.

We were THIS close to having the theme of diversity and cooperation being the thing that defeats the Reapers, whose whole focus is squashing that diversity. Control. Sanding off the edges.

Hell, if you really wanted, my version could still HAVE the red blue and green endings if you won the day and had the Reapers on the ropes. I could see that being a moment when you could choose to fully defeat forever, synthesize, or take crontrol.

Anyway, that's how I would have written it. Probably other people have had this idea as well.

i will go to my grave defending joker mass effect's decision to not abandon the cockpit of the sr-1

he's fucking disabled and has trouble walking when the normandy isn't taking heavy fire, he needed assistance to get to an escape pod because he is disabled and the rest of the cockpit crew are dead. he could have very well just stumbled bad during another attack, break his leg, and float off into the abyss of space

the escape pods still need to safely eject from the ship, and lore makes it clear the ship piloting vi isn't complex enough to handle mid-combat piloting. by remaining in the cockpit and keeping the ship out of fire, joker allows more escape pods to eject safely

too many people (redditors, mostly) look at joker's decision to stay at the helm as a betrayal, and genuinely blame him for shepard's death which is insane. he didn't make the decision to remain at the helm because he wanted shepard to die lmfao he does it because he knows, as a disabled man who forgoes mobility aids, that he has 0 chance of getting to an escape pod by himself and his best choice is to stay and try to keep the ship steady and relatively intact
