I read Hamlet back in high school and to this day my absolute favorite thing about it was when Guildenstern was trying to fool Hamlet into doing something or other and Hamlet’s savvy to it but rather than saying “you’re lying and trying to trick me” instead Hamlet outta nowhere whips out this flute and tells Guildenstern to play it.

And Guildenstern is all “I dont know how to play a flute, my lord”

This post makes me so sad because I remember when my husband felt he couldn’t say this to me. Because society had pounded it into his head so thoroughly that it ‘wasn’t polite to ask for alone time’ that he felt he wasn’t allowed to. And he was SO MISERABLE. I, being an extrovert myself, had no idea. It wasn’t until, after lots of trial and error and lots of fighting and crying that we finally figured it out.

Saying ‘I love you, but I’m tired of being around people right now. I need time to recharge.’ is NOT IMPOLITE. If someone you say it to thinks it is? Then they need to learn what being introverted means. You can try to help them understand that you need to recharge your batteries. If they refuse to accept it… well, then, you’re never going to work anyways. Because you should NEVER sacrifice your mental health just to keep from hurting someone else’s feelings.

You can ask for alone time politely. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s not being mean. It’s not being rude. Explain that you need time to recharge. That you just need to be alone with yourself for a while. It’s so important. And the people who truly love you in return will learn and adapt as much as you do.

A friend of mine on Facebook was able to attend the Last Jedi premiere in Los Angeles last night with some friends of his from the Rebel Legion and the 501st, all in costume, including a young woman who was dressed as Rose Tico. Kelly Marie Tran saw her while she was walking the red carpet, and this was her reaction to seeing someone dressed as Rose. According to my friend, there were tears all around and it was a very emotional moment. Representation matters, you guys, and it is so important. These photos made me emotional just seeing them, and I was given permission to share them with the rest of you here.

If you'd been given the chance, how would YOU have designed Solas? What would each part of his design details mean/represent and why?

This is a great question!

The devs wanted a look for Solas that would “evoke a sense of ageless wisdom”, but if I were given a chance to have designed Solas, I would have been more partial to an appearance that was… less polished.

So I tried to redesign Solas in a way that:

Physically separates him from “modern-day” elves. I love love love short elves, so instead of making him taller or bulkier, I gave him an attribute that isn’t usually associated with elves in Thedas: facial hair.

Emphasises his wandering lifestyle. I love the characterisation of Solas as a hobo, so I wanted to push that aspect: patchwork clothing that doesn’t seem like it was really made for his body, long unkempt hair & beard, tattered gloves, etc.

Suggests there’s more to Solas than there appears. In keeping with the two previous points, I wanted physical suggestions that Solas had experienced more than he would openly admit. To that end, I gave him some facial scarring and wrinkles. 

Gives a nod to the Dalish understanding of Fen’Harel as a trickster. For me, that was giving him a toothy smile and a wry look.
