they matched each others freak. 42 injured. 7 dead. 12 missing.
I love when Leverage stops in the middle of an episode to explain a corrupt system or law or whatever so they're sure the audience knows exactly what's bad about it before they execute a cathartic revenge upon someone exploiting it. They're like hang on let me take a minute to explain the private prison industry and why it's so fucked up. Okay now back to the jailbreak and fucking over the rich private prisons guy
pancakes are made of eggs omfg
Y’all are crazy if you think a chicken won’t happily eat eggs. Y’all insane if you think a chicken won’t tear some nuggets UP. You are ON CRACK if you think a chicken won’t just, eat another injured chicken
Me and some friends were collecting eggs on this farm. We dropped one of them and they went absolutely apeshit over that damn egg. Not even the shell was left.
I know people think chickens are herbivores but they absolutely aren’t.
Chickens are omnivores. They eat meat, they eat eat all sorts of fruits and vegetables.
This isn’t really well known to people who live off of farms or who have never spent time on one. It’s also thanks to tv and movies not showing this side of chickens.
It’s why eggs and chicken meat saying they come from “free-range vegetarian chickens” are HILARIOUS, because if they’re free-range, you can’t control that, and the tiny dinosaurs ARE going to eat a lot of things. And if a mouse meets an early demise because it came near the tiny dinosaurs … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As a kid I once threw the neighbor’s chickens a chicken nugget just to see what would happen.
Answer; they fuckin demolished it. Tore it apart and wolfed it down in seconds.
Rose tinted chicken glasses used to be a very common invention for chickens, because if they saw a speck of blood on another chicken they would gang up on it and murder it to death and feast on it.
Actual piranhas don’t act like Hollywood piranhas.
Chickens, however, do act like Hollywood piranhas. Those fuckers get a taste for blood and they become fucking ravenous fiends. They’re still very much dinosaur.
Pancakes are looking a little tame, huh?
You’re not allowed to let your chickens eat eggs purely because if they discover that they can, you will never get another egg from them again. They WILL eat them before you can collect them.
Yeah I was going to mention this. Once they get the taste, they’ll eat their own eggs and the eggs of other hens if they can. At that point, you gotta cull them.
AO3 Writer Affirmations:
I do not have to reinvent the wheel every time I write fanfiction
I do not have to make every chapter's word count above 1,000 in order for it to be good
It is okay if some things don't make sense
I can write whatever I want
I am writing this shit for free
If people don't like my stuff, they can block me. If they're being mean about it, I can block them.
The most important part of writing fanfiction is having fun
Writing fanfiction is supposed to be fun
I do not have to appeal to people
This shit is fun
I am doing this all for free, and anyone who objects can go eat wet sand and worms from the sidewalk
I can write the same thing multiple times
I can write the same thing as someone else
My chapters don't all have to be the same length
It's never to late to go back
I don't have to finish it if I don't want to
I can choose just to write the scenes I want to write
get in loser if we’re all going through it might as well do it together

Authors, agents, publishers: every part of the industry is seeing the strain of five years of escalating anti-LGBTQ censorship.
if you'd like to show support, here are some upcoming queer books:
When Life Gives You Corpses is a brilliant YA about a cursed praying mantis who falls for a young witch. Yield Under Great Persuasion is a raunchy, but surprisingly sweet story about two men repairing their relationship. Fabulous Bodies is a horror story about a queer rockstar rising from the dead.
This is Where the Future Bleeds is a fantasy set in a vividly imagined land, where two women (who happen to kiss) are the key to healing the broken sky. You're No Better is a story about a teen struggling in the shadow of his murderous parent. Oil on Canvas is about a woman who finds disturbing paintings in the home of her dead mother.
and then here's a list of 26 queer books by Black authors set to publish this year, and a 10 upcoming books by trans authors. if you want to fight back against queer censorship, use your wallet! or (if that's not an option) you can contact your local library and ask them to stock a copy.
In addition: looking for indie publishers and queer bookshops is a great way to find and support queer authors and stories of so many infinite varieties! (The following suggestions are based on my UK-centric knowledge)
(Some) Queer Presses:
Lurid Editions are "a publishing project committed to intentional and conscientious acts of archival repair". They are "attentive to how marginalised histories are forgotten and remembered, [and] hungry to rediscover overlooked queer books". They've just received funding from Arts Council England to engage queer readers in a project to contribute to the archive!
Cipher Press "We’re really keen on the idea that queer and minority stories are for everybody, and we want to make our books – and the stories they tell - accessible to all" (what an amazing mission statement!)
Anamot Press "Anamot [Անամոթ] means shameless in Armenian. Anamot Press publishes poetry and prose on intersecting experiences of gender, sexuality, race, migration, class, belonging and loss - with no shame."
(Some) Queer Bookshops
Queer Lit Oh man, I remember when this was just a tiny little shop, and now they're the biggest LGBT+ bookshop in Europe! They do amazing work in donating books about being trans to schools and parliament! They have a pay-it-forward board that will make you sob with its notes of love and support. (You can tell I wish I still lived nearby)
Lighthouse For Scottish friends - "a queer-owned and woman led independent community bookshop. We are an unapologetically activist, intersectional, feminist, antiracist, lgbtq+ community space"
Gay's The Word The OG Queer bookshop in the UK. One day I will make my pilgrimage!!
This really is just a tiny snapshot of all the amazing work of celebration and resistance that's being done for Queer literature at the moment. We live in frightening times, but I promise there is still lots of love and joy and hope out there in spaces like these. Support them in whatever way you can!!
this queer author is so very tired but I have a queer cozy fantasy that's out now (left) and a queer cozy horror that releases in July (right), both adult
The Keeper of Lonely Spirits is about an old man cursed with immortality, loss, grief, and the meaning of home
The Lord of the Wood is about a man having a queer awakening in an enchanted forest, the sister who comes after him, and realizing worth doesn't lie in usefulness
Evening Dress
c. 1929-1933
"A sea-green, crinkled rayon dress made by Mrs. Lilian Lipley who owned a small dressmaking business in Roman Road from 1922 to c. 1934 employing 8-10 local women and making for local clients. The dress is sleeveless with small asymmmetric gathering at bust to produce v-shaped neckline. The dress is cut in panels on the bias and, due to the fabric, is incredibly figure-hugging."

I don't disagree that telling stories is amongst the several functions of tabletop RPGs (though it's certainly not the sole function – or even the principal function – of many games), but I think a lot of analyses of story-in-RPGs trip over the GNS model's error of treating the activities of play as identical with the goals of play.
Like, if the goal of play is to produce a story, then the act of play must be identical with the act of telling a story, right? Except that's not how most stories we actually tell work. How most stories we actually tell work is a bunch of Weird Shit happens, then we make up an explanatory narrative to help us make sense of it.
In the overwhelming majority of conventional tabletop RPGs, the act of play is not identical with telling the story. The act of play is identical with experiencing the Weird Shit. The rules are a Rube Goldberg machine which outputs the materials of which stories are made, and if they're competently structured, all you need to do is turn the crank.
This, more than anything else, is why putting Rule Zero front and centre is going to give you problems in traditional games. If you start with the exact specific story you want to produce and ask how to get the rules to produce it, you're not merely setting yourself at odds with any particular rule; you're trying to run the machine backwards!

"alpha male" announces intention to form a men only club where they buy a communal sex-bot.
Apparently the OP is satire, but it's way too real.
Good. Gey gezunt. Leave us tf alone.
It is important to remember that as far as art history goes, that it is patently untrue that realism only became humanly possible with the development of linear perspective in Europe thanks to Brunelleschi (a commonly repeated myth in lower division art education), and that examples of artistic realism as we know it today has long existed in many, much older art traditions. West African arts cultures are a great example to work off of. (i.e. Yoruba)
This Yoruba bust (or Ife Head) is dated to the 12th-14th centuries.
This misunderstanding also deeply, unfortunately, and inaccurately mischaracterizes traditional arts in African cultures as being “less developed” for being more stylized, as if they cannot figure out realism due to difficulty (lmao?), which simply is not the case.
I don’t often make original posts like this, but I’ve rarely seen this addressed outside of art history land, and it really bothers me!!!

so, something about occtis and thimble that’s been on my mind for a few days now:
they’re frequently coded by the fandom as being best friends. it’s clear there’s a strong connection between them, and occtis considers thimble one of two people in the world who cares about him. BUT.
how long has it actually been since they’ve seen each other?
in the overture, thimble remarks to occtis, ‘you grew up.’ she comments on not knowing how in with his family he still is. she is frequently surprised by his capability with magic. so how long has it actually been since occtis and thimble have spent a real amount of time together? it seems more like a ‘childhood friends’ kind of deal, but also realistically how often was occtis truly in thimble’s company?
and it’s actually so heartbreaking that despite however much time has passed, occtis doesn’t have anyone else he considers that close other than thaisha. no one from the penteveral, no one from just being in the city of dol-makjar. how much of that is that people avoided him because of his name and his family?
and how interesting it’s going to be to see thimble and occtis actually having to almost get to know each other again, depending on how much time has passed since they were in company. I think they very much have rose-colored glasses on regarding their memories of one another - and that’s not to say their friendship isn’t still real and valid and important! but thimble probably isn’t aware of quite how steeped in death and weird shit occtis is, just as occtis probably isn’t aware of how reckless and judgmental thimble can be. I think the prospect of them realizing they don’t actually know each other all that well anymore is way more interesting than just a ‘oh the childhood friends are back together and everything is great’ feel.

I'm sorry but vaccines are so fucking cool. You're telling me that I just need to drop by my doctor, feel a pinprick, maaaybe feel a bit off for a day and then I have statistically significant, incredible chances of either completely avoiding getting a certain illness or at the very least have a pretty string guarantee my body will kick its ass swiftly??? Fucking magic potion.
