I have updated the Murderbot collection on my Direct Downloads folders. Hewwo new release~! If for whatever reason (I'm not in the business of asking) you need an .epub copy free of DRM at no cost:
āØHave at it.āØ
Pls reblog if you download, so more people can benefit of the post.
[Edited] - Hot dang, got the audiobook too!!
The files were checked with Bitdefender!
If at some point you're able to, throw Martha Wells some cash for an actual copy. (I want her to keep writing, ok uwu)
Anyone can be discarded by society
Reblog if you will never. Ever. Use AI in your writing.
she's the best of us
āthereās an ai tool for thatā okay ?? thereās probably an ed sheeran song for it too who gives a fuck
Not superstitious and not not superstitious but a third secret thing (read a lot of fairytales as a child and doesn't believe them but also would never be rude to a mountain while still on it just in case)
yall see āloveā and immediately go to āromantic loveā if you translate ālove is the whole pointā to āromantic love is the whole pointā you need to rethink everything because love is found in everything. in community, in friendships, in family, in food, in nature so actually love is the whole point and u can die mad about it. hope this helps <3
I feel like, with the way things went down yesterday, I shouldāve been more prepared today. You know? I shouldāve known to be ready BUT I WASNT. So now I have no saved tabs.
this could have been us watching episode 237 of the rise and fall of sanctuary moon but i will not answer your 400+ pings
Now i am sitting with my boots on the polished counter surface. Hope you have a sensor view in here.
More muderbot
little thingy from the other week, stuff on my mind
Or as I've always liked to put it, "No matter how suspicious you might find the neighbor who never opens their blinds, they will never be as suspicious as the neighbor who wants free rein to peek in through peopleās windows."
I've seen so many posts about Mensah's perspective of ART/Network Effect, how have I not seen one's about ART's crew's perspective. Network Effect as told by Seth.
You have a child who is an extremely powerful (somewhat illegal) machine intelligence. It's a good kid, mostly, except it doesn't play well with others. Your kid periodically goes on short trips by itself, and this has always been fine.
One time, it comes back and it's acting... weird. It keeps bringing up things it has no reason to know about and then dodging questions about it. Finally, you get it to admit that it picked up a hitchhiker on this on this trip, even though you have very strict rules about never picking up hitchhikers. This hitchhiker is obviously it's new favorite person. They watched soap operas together. Your kid loves soap operas now. Your kid shows you a bunch of pictures of this hitchhiker, but won't tell you details because the hitchhiker in question is a wanted criminal on the run and also an escaped slave. This is probably fine (you sure hope it's fine).
Then, you and the rest of your family/friends get fucking kidnapped and used as hostages to make your kid behave. You know that your kid 1) will do anything to protect you, and 2) pretty much always goes for violence first, so you have your doubts about any of this going well.
Then, the hitchhiker your kid will not shut up about appears out of thin air in the middle of a firefight on a planet pretty much no one has any reason to be near and says your kid sent it. It proves this by telling you your kid is a dickhead (this is true and works, but still).
After a lot of mutual rescuing, you're back on board the ship that is also your kid, and find out that your kid kidnapped it's wanted-criminal-hitchhiker-friend and all of it's friends, and has been telling them all of your top secret confidential spy information. The hitchhiker is responsible for 90% of the top news stories you've seen in the last six months. Three different governments want this person dead or alive.
Your kid pushes the hitchhiker's resume across the table at you and makes big sad puppy eyes.
forgive me father, for all you have endured
Also thinking about that last SecUnit in System Collapse, who stopped to warn them that BE was coming, and decided to stay behind because they didn't know it was governor-module-less. Thinking about that SecUnit quietly sharing the HelpMe.file with other units it thinks are trustworthy. Thinking about that file, essentially MB's life story, just quietly getting passed from SecUnit to SecUnit, some of them choosing to run immediately as soon as they're free, maybe some of them choosing (very understandable) violence against their oppressors but most don't, most choosing to believe or at least to hope that there are good humans out there, that there are places they could be safe, places where they could be seen as people, and choosing to pass the document on to the next unit they meet.
Just thinking about this slow, silent revolution rippling through the ranks of constructs throughout the Corporation Rim, without Murderbot et al even being aware of it, until maybe one day on a mission stop on a random transport ring, it encounters another rogue construct trying to pass as an augmented human in the crowd. The other rogue freezes when they spot each other, and for a second MB tenses and thinks maybe there's going to be trouble, but then this stranger goes, holy shit you're 1.0, because they're so many links removed from Murderbot or 2.0 themselves, but they have the file, and they know who saved them, they know who freed them
#i just reread network effect and system collapse back to back#and in SC i kept thinking āsecunit is going to become a folk hero if itās not carefulā (via @what-strange--options)
Murderbot becoming construct Robin Hood? Construct Jesus??!
It would hate this so much lmaoooooo
Obsessed with how Murderbot and Perihelion were literally made to be together. Secunits were designed to interface with multiple larger systems like hub and med systems and to be part of a much larger network of bots and programs. ART is, essentially, a hub system that can react and interact with the other pieces of its systems in ways most hub systems canāt. It has the capacity to feel emotions but lacks the experience and inputs to be able to fully understand some of them until it uses Murderbots systems. Murderbot doesnāt have a deep understanding of humans and how to pass as one which ART gladly provides. ART cares deeply about its crew but canāt follow them into dangerous situations but Murderbot can. āMutual administrative assistanceā takes on a much deeper and more intimate meaning when itās taken with the context of a software programs and its hardware counterpart.
