On July 1942, 2, most of the children of Lidice, a small village in what was then Czechoslovakia, were handed over to the gestapo office of the gestapo.

These 82 children were then transported to the of extermination camp 70 kilometers away. Once they arrived, they were gassed to death. This remarkable sculpture by Marie Uchytilová commemorates this massacre.

A group of Bronze Sculptures, paying tribute to the children who died. Its construction was decided in 1969 by the woman sculptor, Marie Uchytilova. As a symbol of an imaginary tomb of the 13 million most innocent victims of the war - children, she chose as model, 82 children of lidice asphyxiated in the gas rooms of chelmno.

She took 20 years to make this beautiful sculpture because she used the vintage documents to reproduce the faces of the missing children and to represent them according to their exact size.

Honest-to-god think that the Gameboy Advance SP is the best video game console ever made. Like we should've just stopped trying after that. executive dysfunction is legitimately physically uncomfortable. i’ll be trapped between two things, weirdly caught on how-much-time-it-might-take-me. i take hours worried im going to take hours doing things. i’ll sit on the floor for the entire day, caught up in the middle of not-doing the chores i actually do want to be doing.

& the amount of mental energy that goes into it. & the legitimate amount of anger and discomfort and self-hate. is not “being lazy”.  it’d be a lot less work if i didn’t have to fight myself to just get up and do it. 

i just need you to understand it’s not effortless. it’s never effortless. it’s not “okay let me just get up and finally start doing this.” it’s more like. i am slamming my foot on the pedal but the car is in neutral and nothing is moving. it’s more like shouting instructions into a dying telephone. it’s more like being trapped in a small electric box, and someone who hates me is administering shocks.

y’all..........remember 1. most grassroots organizations aren’t prepared or expecting to raise 30+ million dollars in 3 weeks 2. days after they started they said they had enough donations and asked people to direct funds to needier orgs 3. they announced they’ve spent over $200k bailing people out and are working on doing more 4. community organizing done right is hard work with a lot of different factors and limited resources Beyond just money.

hold these organizations accountable and demand transparency. but this original post has such little information and y’all are just circulating it? read the thread from the oakland mask org that started years ago and how intense this work is. it’s been three weeks and these are what looks like less than 12 people who have been given an immense amount of cash in an unbelievably short amount of time. i wouldn’t be so quick to call this a shaun king situation.

The MN Freedom Fund has existed since 2016. Prior to the George Floyd protests, they were a small bail fund that paid out around $1000 per day. Paying out over $200,000 in 20 days puts them at over 10 times their previous payout rate.

They stopped taking donations very early on because the support overwhelmed their capacity.

Their front page now, as it has been since late May, is almost entirely links to local efforts which need more support - Black Visions Collective, Reclaim the Block, and funds like Rebuild Lake Street and the Northside Business Association.

Meanwhile, The National Lawyers Guild has said that jails are delaying activists from being able to release protestors.

The MNFF should be transparent about how it's using the money, yes. I believe they should also redirect the donations they can't immediately use to other organizations. But they're a 501(c)3 nonprofit, there are restrictions on how they can spend and transfer money. You can check out their nonprofit filing forms on ProPublica - no one at MNFF receives a salary.

Keep orgs accountable, keep pushing for transparency, but please do a little more leg work before accusing an org of fraud.

it is the responsible thing right now for libraries to have their buildings closed, but many of us are still providing services including reference (that’s librarian for “you can ask us questions about anything and we’ll find you relevant, accurate information or refer you to someone who can”) and virtual programming. Our library also offers free telehealth counseling services with a licensed social worker. You might not know all the services your library is providing until you ask, so it’s worth reaching out!

We’ve noticed our reference stats dropping since we closed our physical doors and are thinking that people assume because we’re not at the building we’re not available, but we are still here for our community! Your librarians are probably there for you too. Please check their website and social media pages!
