Sometimes I remember there was a Targ fan who thought Dany was modelled after the missing Romanov daughters, which is why she is destined to win the Iron Throne back. (Being compared to a tsarist dynasty is apparently a good thing?) And for some reason they also said she is "Jewish queen" coded because she was exiled out of Westeros??? (Romanovs famously known for persecuting Jews??? Targs famously known for their blood purity obsession??)
They were so close to getting it.
there’s a Romanov theme with a different princess who is lost and coming back to her ancestral home. That would be a princess from a family of five children, from snowy country and solemn faced people of rich cultural heritage, largest country on its continent, her family executed or lost. There are two sisters who match this description who play out ‘reclaim home’ and ‘start afresh’ resolutions. I don’t think it’s about the Romanov dynasty as a whole, just personal themes of family, winter, children caught up in politics, hidden identities that are present. Sansa building a snow castle scene is similar vibes to Once Upon a December scene in Anastasia

I personally don't take that line from GRRM about Sansa dying serious at all but I'm still annoyed as hell with him for giving haters and antis ammo and making the fandom experience as a Sansa Stark fan even more hellish for us. Disappointed.
The fact that we are yet again pointing out how 11-13 year old girl was supposed to be ‘killed off’ is honestly so tiring. In a book with 100+ characters full of adult psychos and murderers it’s this one barely teenager who we really need to be grateful that wasn’t ’killed off’. Ugh.
Like yeah Tyrion’s story is dark and - newsflash - he’s a serial abuser and a murderer, so duh it makes sense the show ending is a happy one for him. But to keep saying ‘Sansa was supposed to die blah blah’ is just so over.
Maybe Martin mentioned her only because she’s the only one he knows is absolutely surviving at this point (obvs). Still. Not the vibe.
“Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, ‘What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now.’ Yes, evil often seems to surpass good. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I must still have hope.”

BONUS:
Time has changed me.
But i'm still here.
my high school english teacher would often critique our literature analysis work by pointing out: "you're treating these characters like they're real people. They're not. They're characters". And it took me a long time to understand what he meant by that. Because I always thought "isn't that the point? That writers want to write characters to be so three dimensional that they act and feel like real people?" but that's not it.
Characters are tools a writer uses in service of a story. Of course characters can be written with depth to the point they feel real to us, but they exist in service of their narrative. Something real people aren't beholden to at all. When discussing characters, I think it's easy to accidentally see these characters as "real people" and not extensions of the author's beliefs. Tools for a narrative. Means of storytelling.

A lot of people genuinely believe that permanent disability isn't a thing that happens to good people who work hard and make responsible choices. A lot of people genuinely think that we get the life we work for and deserve. And this is definitely part of the explanation for why ableism is so prevalent
