Sony Announces Closure of PS3 and Vita Stores and Announces End of Physical Media Production in 2028

An update on PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita

Changes start this year in select markets, followed by global changes in 2027.

Sony has announced the closure of the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita digital storefronts in the near future. Depending on your location, it may even be the very near future, as soon as next month. From the official blog:

Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting August 2026. Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries – PlayStation Store on PS3 will close starting late 2026. In all other countries, PlayStation Store on PS3 and PS Vita will close in July 2027.

In particular, this means a few games in the Story of Seasons series, including Rune Factory and Innocent Life, will no longer be available for purchase digitally, so if you've put off picking them up, be sure to get in on them soon. A full list is as follows:

Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition (PS3) - $9.99

Harvest Moon: Back to Nature (PS3, PSP, Vita) - $5.99

Harvest Moon: Boy and Girl (PSP, Vita)* - $14.99

Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley (PSP, Vita)* - $19.99

Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland (PS3) - $9.99

Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon (PSP, Vita)* - $14.99

Innocent Life: A Futuristic Harvest Moon Special Edition* (PS3) - $9.99

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny* - $29.99

Games marked with an * are not available on PS4 or PS5 and will become officially inaccessible on any platform until Marvelous issues some form of rerelease of those games. This makes a big assumption they ever would, rather than remaking them, so if you want to play games like the "For Girl" version of Back to Nature in English or Save the Homeland's remake with expanded features and story, the gap may be closing in fast.

Of course, Harvest Moon isn't the only series affected by these changes. Every other game available on the PS3 and Vita's digital storefronts that isn't available on a modern platform is at risk of disappearing too. If you've always wanted to load up your CD collection into Vib-Ribbon, a game that was put on PlayStation Network by personal request of former CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Shawn Layden, now's the time! Before the current suits in charge snatch it back away!

Sony will also be ending production of physical media for all PlayStation consoles in 2028, so if you want a physical copy of any current games, maybe get on that.

5th grade was the last time I wore a dress for school pictures. When my parents attempted to force the issue for 6th grade, I climbed onto our roof and pulled the ladder up after me. My dad borrowed the neighbors ladder. As soon as it touched the roof I pulled it up too. By the time I had 3 ladders they were willing to negotiate, and 2 hours late for work.

The problem with studying the deep ocean is that humans need light to look at things, the depths of the ocean are extremely dark, and what lives there is accustomed to spending most of its time in that darkness. I put this in the comments but feel it needs a reblog- Check out some of Dr Edith Widder’s work on light in the deep sea! Among other things, she used the bioluminescence of stoplight fish to deduce wavelengths which most deep sea animals can’t perceive and used that to create light filters to be able to film with minimal disturbance! And that’s how we got 25 minutes of giant squid footage!!!!

You want friends, then you have to give and recieve. Gotta open up some reciprocity. Gotta give a little, risk a little, create some responsibility, some owing, not manipulative but from choice. Do a favour so they feel inclined to do a favour back. Its more tit-for-tat in the beginning and it should be largely reciprocal/even but not, whats the word, contractual? Youre not counting who owes who three dollars, yknow.

But if you prefer not to owe anything youre setting yourself apart. Not truly independent bc thats impossible as a human. But apart.

You can change though. Make different choices. Try out being nicer and see how it goes. Youre not stuck as you are, thats the beauty of humanity. Change is possible. You can learn to like yourself, love yourself even. Learn to like other people. It doesnt stop being scary but you start feeling less like a open wound so it doesnt hurt nearly so much. Its worth it almost always to be decent to people.

Every time you go in a public place and something ISN’T disgusting it’s because somebody cleaned it. Every time you feel comfortable using a public bathroom or sitting at a restaurant table or setting something on a gas station counter or playing on a playground it’s because somebody cleaned it.
