Despite Sanguinius' foresight, his visions weren't specific on which Horus he would be meeting. The borrowed cloak and pelt masked the scent, too.
Dont think about it too hard, its cute.

Queliot Fic Rec #1
In the interest of spreading some more fandom love and because I’m procrastinating writing my own fic, I decided to make a rec list of the most amazing Quentin and Eliot Fanfiction I have read in my very short time in the fandom (so far). They are in no particular order, and range from PWP to AUs to everything in between.
A Little Disguised, or a Little Mistaken by page161of180 Ok, I actually just finished this fic today. It’s such an original take on something the show didn’t really explore. This is post season 3, pre-season 4, but written after 4x05 so Eliot’s rejection of Quentin so that still informs the story. It’s obviously about Quentin and Eliot, but it’s really about Brian and Nigel, and how no matter what situation they’re or what their names are, they will find their way back to each other. The prose is so intriguing, drawing you into Brian and Nigel’s worlds where their problems are different on the outside, but really are the same on the inside. I love how they come together, and there’s a peppering of literary references that a nerd like me appreciates. Very special and healing.
All the World in Time by @giddygeek This is a post-season 4 fic written I believe before the finale so it deals with how Quentin and Eliot would deal with their different relationship after monster is gone. They end up on a mission to find their relatives in Fillory from the Mosaic timeline. This fic reminds me of summer, and how you feel when you get together with large groups of family and friends (in a positive way). Quentin is still so hurt by Eliot’s rejection the year before, and I like how open Eliot is now with trying to prove to him that he’s all in now about giving their relationship a try. I’m a fan of miscommunication in stories because it often leads to the best catharsis in the head, and I love how this one ended up doing that.
Real Hunger has a Real Taste by celestialskiff This is a Marqueliot PWP that involves some light dom/sub dynamics. It’s fucking hot. I’m a sucker Quentin being desperate to please his partners and for his partners to call him good. This is just that, along with some great characterization.
In the Woods Somewhere by pineapplecrushface This is a post-s4 finale fix-it fic that follows Quentin into his afterlife. Somehow, he’s able to enter Eliot’s dreams and shenanigans ensue from there. I love the picture of the afterlife this paints, and I really like Alice’s involvement and characterization. The sex is beautiful and real, but still has that dream-like quality. 10/10 catharsis after the event which we shall not speak about.
The Dreamers by hertrez This is my favorite post-s4 fic. Nothing gets to me like established relationship fics where characters learn about each other while also learning about themselves. Quentin and Eliot start this fic in a long term relationship but kind of having a fight, but we don’t know what about. The fic expertly weaves the past and present together, showing us how Quentin and Eliot came together after the monster. I love non-linear storytelling, and this author does it so well. It’s only 10k but like it’s one of those fics that feels thick, efficient, the most said without wasting words. The characterization is so good, and it shows how their life isn’t perfect but it’s theirs.
You’re a Story (I Can Follow) by page161of180 Another amazing post-s4 fic turned accidental fix-it fic, this is a retelling of the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eliot descends into the underworld and is tasked with leading Quentin out since he died saving Eliot from the monster. The catch is that Quentin is supposedly behind Eliot the entire time, but he can’t look back or else Quentin will have to go back to the underworld. I love how Eliot is confronted with challenges while doing this, and has to have faith that Q is there and that it will all be worth it. It’s hard to describe why this fic is so spectacular. It’s really a fic about Eliot confronting himself and the way he views his own memories. Truly breathtaking, and again, a very needed fic for where we are now.
Struck From a Great Height by @summersteve (mtothedestiel on ao3) Another post s4 fic/PWP showing the aftermath of Quentin saving Eliot from the monster. The premise is simple, but it just shows a moment of tenderness between these two characters after all the trauma they faced. The sex is overwhelmingly tender, and you’ll be thinking about for a while after you read. There’s something to be said that Eliot and Q would have to work through their issues, but there’s also something to be said that they would have just fallen into each other’s arms if they had been given a chance to reunite. Valid as hell.
If anyone can please tag these authors if they are on tumblr, I would appreciate it, I know how frustrating it is to be recced and not see it! Thank you in general to all the awesome authors in the fandom, the creativity I have seen is so amazing. Also if you like this rec list please reblog to help support content-creators.
Hey artists, C. Spike Trotman, founder of Iron Circus Comics, just posted an invaluable thread on depicting different types of black hair. I’d do the thing where you screencap the whole thread and post it but it’s just too long (which is great because it’s a whole lot of useful information!) Give her a follow while you’re there.
Anyway, go check it out. I just wanted to save it and share it because I didn’t know how much I didn’t know!
This is an amazing resource, not only for artists, but for writers too! I love this!
Saving this for future reference. I have no ability to describe black hair as a white woman. This will help a ton!
I don’t reblog much, but this is too well said not to.
This always gets a reblog.
Remember this segment came out before the backlash really got into full swing. Things are dangerous as hell for us now that the right has us squarely in their crosshairs and use our lives and identities as a political wedge issue.
I spent like 15 hours on this.
*impressed slow clap*
This was ridiculously pleasing to read out loud.
This is a legitimately fine poem. I say so with my BA in English and Philosophy and my PhD. It’s DAMN HARD to write something like this. Be impressed, yo.
Transcript of poem in screenshot:
First the cracker batter baker bakes a cracker batter batch then the cracker batter mixer door will open and unlatch so the batter mixer nozzle can descend onto the patch where the cracker batter spreads out for the nozzle to attach.
When the cracker mixer nozzle sprays the cracker batter spray and the cracker batch emulsion lies a-soaking in its haze then the cracker batter mixer starts to stir up all the glaze that the final cracker stacker needs to lubricate the way.
Once the cracker stacker handle stacks the cracker batter squares then the cracker batter’s hardened into double stacks of pairs. Now the cracker separator breaks the crackers in the stackers so the wrappers on the stackers fit the finished stacking crackers. Then they’re distributed to Wal-Mart.
I forgot about this magnificent poem, and you probably did too. Here it is again.
I highly recommend trying to read it aloud, it feels delightful and is almost impossible.
Reading wiki entries for historical trans men…
Dr. James Barry, Albert Cashier, Charley Parkhurst, Billy Tipton, and Dr. Alan Hart could have each written “I am a man and want to be recognized across history as such” and transphobes would still be like… “wow what misunderstood butch heroes… lesbian icons!!!!”
interesting how they… didn’t all write that. across history women have disguised themselves as men in order to escape misogyny cus u couldn’t get anywhere much in life (much less become successful doctors) as women. and anyways, of course a woman constrained by sexism would prefer to be given the privileges of a man. i can’t confirm these women were lesbians, but you cannot confirm they were transmen either.
Interesting how… I didn’t argue that women haven’t disguised themselves throughout history. I mentioned specific instances of historical trans men for whom there is evidence to conclude they identified as men and not women. I said nothing against lesbians in my post either, only about transphobes.
Anyways:
Dr. James Barry had a close relationship with Lord Charles Somerset and was subsequently accused of buggery, which led to a court trial and investigation as homosexuality was illegal. He could have revealed that he was female at any time during the trial to escape condemnation, but he did not. Upon his death, Barry left strict instructions that his body was not to be undressed and he was to be buried in his bedsheets.
Albert Cashier could not read or write, but lived as a man for 53 years, even after fighting in the uniform of a Union soldier, he maintained his male dress and presentation until he slipped and fell, breaking his hip.
The indomitable stagecoach driver Charlie Parkhurst lived as a man from the time he was 12, and after retiring, maintained his identity as a man until his death.
Also it’s interesting that you said that I could not undeniably prove any of these men were trans: Alan L Hart was undeniably trans, as he sought out medical transition and pyschotherapy for his gender dysphoria, referred to himself as “one of the fellows,” legally changed his name, lived as a man from a young age, and continued to do so until his death, so yeah, you really can’t say “oh he’s a lesbian,” can you?
while billy tipton might’ve initially identified as a lesbian, he later transitioned to presenting male full-time. he told his future female partners that he was a man and that his body was the result of a serious car accident. he went on to adopt children, and was known as a “good father”. at the age of 74, he refused to be seen by a doctor when he contracted emphysema, which caused his death. neither his later female partners or his children or friends seemed to know he was trans until he was forcefully outed at death
i’d also like to add
little ax broadnax, a gospel singer who performed in multiple quartets over the years with his older brother. while still living with his family, he was recorded in the US census as male. he was outed publicly as a trans man at death in 1992, having presented as male for over 60 years
#when albert cashier had dementia and was in an institution he used to take clothespins and try to make his skirts into pants #regardless of the trouble it caused his caretakers #being a man was so integral to him that even when his memory was shot he clung to his identity with both hands and refused to let it go #our history isn’t big but it’s vital and it’s present and it’s not going anywhere
Why Did They Come?
TOO FUCKIN’ phenomenal to NOT reblog!!!!
tfp, the ring, and the art of the false climax
(ETA: This post is causing trouble on mobile…sorry!? Many of the images are cut from mobile for some reason, and apparently it’s crashing the app. I’m wondering if it’s just too long. In any case, view on a computer for a more complete experience; reblog to avoid the inevitable Mofftiss curse. If I have time in the next little while, I’ll publish it in shorter segments.)
TFP had a number of different intertexts–mainly, specific movies–which it drew upon for its motifs, themes, moment-to-moment imagery, and plot points. As approximately a million people noticed in the TFP aftermath, many of the movies referenced in this episode are horror films. Predominant among them was The Ring.
(For the purpose of this post, I’m going to focus on Gore Verbinski’s 2002 film, rather than the Japanese source film Ringu / Ring, because the former is much better known in the West, and I think it’s more likely that it’s The Ring, and not Ringu, that Moffat is talking about in this interview, where he mentions watching it. However, since the broad strokes plot outline of both The Ring and Ringu are very similar / the same wrt the idea of the false climax, the argument I’m making holds either way.)
The Ring is well known for being a really beautifully done horror film. It looks incredible, for one thing–it’s visually gorgeous and thematically dense. But mostly, it does something with the concept of hauntings, ghostly origin stories, and the standard horror plot that, at the time of its release, was incredibly stunning and exciting.
In short, The Ring fakes out its audience by presenting a false climax that appears to resolve the story, in a way that is emotionally nice, if a little unsatisfying, before pulling the rug out from under its own plot.
Because The Ring is such a standout intertext for TFP, i.e., TFP not only draws on it, but resonates with it in multiple ways, via names, repeated motifs, the framing of certain shots, as well as relying on it for nearly its entire climax, I really think the story of s4 and the series as a whole is not over. Even if you think there aren’t any further episodes coming down the pipe, I’m hoping this discussion might help people understand why the story feels incomplete. (Because it is).
If you’ve been trying to sit with the idea that the Redbeard reveal / presentation of Eurus’ backstory / resolution of Sherlock’s story is real / supposed to be taken at face value, but that reading isn’t working for you, maybe this will help.
Basic premises: the reading I’m doing here is a mind bungalow reading. The rationale for The Ring as a major intertext of TFP is that John has been shot, and TFP is the content of his hallucination as he’s bleeding out, which offers an understanding of why it’s so bizarre and tonally shifted from everything else we’ve seen in Sherlock. This reading pulls on the newly revealed information, in TST, that John is a horror movie buff–enough so that he feels the need to correct Mary on the difference between The Omen and The Exorcist. John’s proclivity for horror films offers one justification for why they not only seem to inform TFP, but practically take it over.
I’m hoping to show, for people who aren’t familiar with The Ring, exactly how wildly it dominates TFP, and to talk about how we can use this fact to make some sense of the episode, and possibly the future of the show.
Ridiculous levels of detail under the cut:
It’s been over a year since Sherlock broke my heart and I occasionally come back to tumblr to read great meta like this that allows me to believe that it was all fake and we aren’t done yet.
things writers can (probably) relate to
-making the facial expression your character’s making and trying to describe it
-writing entire scenes in your head as you shower and not remembering most of it by the time you get to your computer
-deciding you can’t do something you’ve been looking forward to until you write what you told yourself you were going to write, resulting in you laying in your bed doing nothing
-having two completely different ideas for your story to go in and both seem equally good but you can’t do both and you also can’t choose
-having docs with stories you know you’ll never finish but not deleting them anyway, even if they’re only a couple sentences long
-getting random bursts of productivity that could go towards homework or cleaning your room or writing and you know you’ll only be able to do one
-getting inspiration from the most random things
-writing at inopportune times because a perfect line or dialogue just popped into your head and you have to get it down before you forget it
-“what are you writing?” “……..a story”
- “what do you want to do when you grow up?” “uunnghnnggguughhhhh”
-reveling in the embarrassment you put your characters through
If you are even a small part of the BBC Sherlock fandom reblog this now
everything will be explained later
WELLLLLLL
im posting this just to put it in my laugh rule tag because it was killing me eariler
i made the mistake of trying to read this out loud and absolutely lost it at every single line and absolutely my neighbours just heard my sputter laugh for a solid two minutes
@perfectperfidy
“be filled with bread or toast or a combination of these two extremes”
-new life motto
From now on I want to narrate every Sherlock interview as if I'm Lemony Snicket
“If we pull this off, it’ll be television history!” Amanda said, gleefully. Amanda should not have said this, and she certainly should not have said it gleefully. What Amanda should’ve said instead is “This season includes a very talented actress who will surely impress you all.” However poor Amanda did not say this. And several months later she certainly regretted her mistake.
~
Sue’s eyes widened in shock. They did not widen in shock because Amanda had spoiled the plot of the show, or because Amanda had just hinted at what may happen in the upcoming season, but rather because Amanda had just told a massive, whopping, great big lie. And Sue was shocked.
~
“Love conquers all,” Benedict smiled sappily. Benedict did not, of course, mean “Sherlock’s romantic love of another person and their love of him conquers all their problems this season,” but rather, “In my opinion Sherlock Holmes and John Watson have been in love for over a century and I believe it is only right that they should be allowed to love each other and that I should kiss Martin.”
~
Steven hid his head in his hands. Steven did this because he thought Benedict was being cheesy and romantic, however it seemed to the audience like he did this because Ben had just give away a major point of the plot. Steven should be more careful about how his body language portrays his feelings.
~
Mark looked like he wanted to kill Benedict. This was not unusual, however. Mark always looked like he wanted to kill Benedict. And Steven. And everyone, in fact. Mark liked to think about murder.
~
“This is the best season yet,” Steven said. He was lying. I know he was lying because in reality it was filled with plot holes and glowing pictures and boys who eat out of dog bowls. But I’m not a rude person, so I left Steven to his ignorance.
~
“Who you really are, it doesn’t matter,” Mark typed. Mark should not have typed this. In fact, I wanted to hit Mark with a big stick and tell him ‘who you are REALLY matters’ but Mark would not have listened. Mark thinks he is smarter than me. He is clearly not. But who he is still matters.
~
“I’ll die if Johnlock doesn’t happen,” a TJLCer sobbed as she typed on her laptop. “RIP,” Mark replied. He did not do this to be funny. He did this because he can be a massive twat sometimes. This was one of those times.
~
"I don’t know, I don’t know, I’m just in it!” Martin squeaked. He was not trying to hide a secret, as many believed. Martin was just genuinely baffled by the new season. And by baffled I mean ‘had no idea what the plot was, what the point was, what his character was suppose to be doing and why he didn’t get to kiss Benedict.’
This is my favorite s4 post ever
This is some incredible talent.
AND THAT IS HOW YOU USE AN EFFECTS PEDAL
I was gaping the entire song this is insane
If I had a dollar for every time a musician made me feel like I’ve done nothing with my life, I’d be filthy, FILTHY rich.
Damn dude………here’s my bank account number.
what happens: a single street artist with an amplifier, an effects pedal and an electric violin plays a cover of a pop song as a semi-classical piece arranged for multiple instruments. he samples himself with the effects pedal, then loops it as he goes to create the effect of multiple instruments playing an entire composition. The development and progression of the the piece is very sophisticated.
artist: bryson andres
song: “secrets” by one republic
rendition style: classical, fusion
