Anything To Impress You
(gif not mine)
The Karasuno boy's volleyball team certainly never failed to make an impression. In fact, in hindsight Kiyoko's confusing words as you accepted to come along with her to learn about possibly becoming a team manager were really a much needed warning. As you walked into the gym for the first time, practically glued to Kiyoko's side, the boys seemed very nice at first, and honestly, a little timid. That is, until a little spikey-haired boy and his loud accomplice came walking in holding armfuls of volleyballs, until they suddenly were dropped to the gym floor along with the boys jaws.
"A new girl, really??" The spikey-haired boy exclaimed.
"Fresh blood!!"
Then they approached you like they had never seen a girl before, eyes wide and mouths wide open, pushing each other to try to introduce themselves first.
"Nishinoya Yuu! Guardian deity of this team, but you can call me-"
"Tanaka Ryunosuke!!"
Just as you were gathering yourself to speak, Kiyoko hushed them. "Behave yourselves.."
And just like that, they stood up straight, quieted down, pressed four fingers to their foreheads to salute Kiyoko and return to the rest of the team. But they had already found out everything they needed to know from your sweet demeanor and your failure to immediately shut them down. As they left, you caught Nishinoya mumbling "No promises.."
⚡︎⚡︎⚡︎
That was only the beginning of the competition. Once they learned your name, it was about every other word from their mouths.
"Y/N! Did you see that kill?!"
"Not as impressive as my serve receive... wait wait! Does Y/n know rolling thunder??"
And it was commonplace for them to try to keep you after practice for as long as they could. They'd volunteer to help you put the net away, and as soon as you knew it Tanaka's arm was slung around your shoulder, "So it's about time someone told you about your welcome-to-the-team party."
"What?" You looked at him, confused.
"You know, your welcome party. We always have those... Anyways, it's this weekend, at Noya's house."
Suddenly Kageyama scoffed as he finished picking volleyballs up off the court, "Do not go to either of their houses.."
Noya pouted, "C'mon man!! You're no fun. And no longer invited!"
Kageyama ignored him while Tanaka chuckled, "Fine, you caught us, no party...at least come get ice cream with us tonight?"
They turned and looked at you with pleading eyes, as if the teenage boys in front of you were convinced they were puppy dogs. But you didn't really have the heart to turn them down for something as small as ice cream, "Sure."
They lit up, throwing their bags together and getting out of the gym doors as fast as they possibly could, conveniently turning the lights off on Kageyama as they left.
After they finished fighting over who got to pay for your ice cream (They split it after realizing neither of them brought very much money), the night was relatively peaceful. Sure they spoke over each other, but whenever you had something to say they quieted as if listening to a sacred whisper, and kicked each other incessantly under the table when they wanted the other to shut up to ask you something else about yourself. They wanted to know everything.
⚡︎⚡︎⚡︎
Since the night you spent with them, their treatment towards you has only become more pronounced. You saw them in the hallways at school, even trying to catch your attention through the window when they passed by the classes you were in, and you knew they were bragging to the rest of the team about the attention you gave them.
They wrote cheeky messages on your locker in dry-erase marker, signing their initials underneath in case you were to suspect anyone else. And when you went along with the team for away games, they were downright vicious to any guy that looked your way.
"Did you see that idiot Loserkawa looking at y/n today?" Tanaka grumbled after a tournament match they played while Aoba Johsai played on the next court over.
"Tsk, least he didn't try anything. That's for the the better I think, y/n likes short guys anyways," Noya bragged.
"WHAT? That's not true! She never said that!"
"Did too! I totally heard it!"
"Well- Well I heard she likes guys with reaaal short hair... what do you think of that Noya?" Tanaka ran his hands through Nishinoya's hair, making a buzzing sound.
Sugawara laughed, "Don't joke about buzzing his hair- he might just do it.."
"And run the risk of looking like Tanaka? No way!"
While overhearing this conversation, you silently exhale after hearing Noya deny that he was going to buzz his hair. How ridiculous would it be to see them both running around like that...
⚡︎⚡︎⚡︎
As you walked to practice the next day, your attention was immediately grabbed by the sounds of muffled laughter coming from the gym and Asahi standing outside.
"Warning before you go in, y/n, Noya and Tanaka have, um... 'something real important' to confess to you?"
"Oh, uh, thanks Asahi," You say as you walk in, admittedly a little nervous. What could they have to say to you that causes such a commotion? Asahi clearly looked uncomfortable.
Upon your entrance, everyone quieted and Noya and Tanaka stood up straight, taking a breath and closing their eyes as if they had to work up the courage to speak. Your stomach began to turn, worried about what they could be thinking.
Simultaneously, they opened their eyes and burst out, "WHICH ONE OF US IS BETTER LOOKING??"
Will try immensely hard for you, but most of the time just doesn't get it at all.
You'll go on a long rant explaining something to him to just stare back at his totally empty eyes, he's been halfway spacing out.
You have to break up his studying pretty frequently because he'll hit his max capacity of information, then ask you to go outside and hit a volleyball around.
When you give him a practice test he will focus so hard to try and impress you, he'll be staring at the paper so intensely, literally sweating with his face like 2 inches from the paper.
Acts nonchalant if you congratulate him about his grades getting better, but secretly he worked his ass off for that
Thanks you very solumly at the end of every tutoring session
Hinata Shoyo:
will be bouncing out of his seat the whole time
stares at his notes like he's never seen them in his life
"can you say that again?"
loves to ask you why whatever you're teaching is important or how it will help him in the future. But if you give a genuine answer he will be impressed.
will be so proud of himself if his grades improve and show them to you immediately
gets frustrated easily and needs to take breaks, if you let him go freely he'll run a lap around the block and come back.
if you tutor him at your house he will play with any pet he can find
Very appreciative of your tutoring and actively tries to befriend you and hang out with you outside of tutoring
Nishinoya Yuu:
stares into your soul as you try to explain things and will very clearly check you out while you're talking
will try to get you off topic constantly
when you give him work to complete he will hype himself up in front of you
when he gets back a good test grade he will slam it on the table first thing he does next session to show it off to you
constantly trying to ask you personal questions about yourself instead of staying on task
stares at every problem for at least 20 seconds before even picking up his pencil
"Okay, good sesh, are you busy after this...?"
Tanaka Ryuunosuke:
rubs his head to focus
is genuinely trying but gets distracted so easily
will show you a test he got a C on bragging to you that he's a total genius
insists on calling you 'teach'
stares at the table while you try to explain things
If you go on a long rant to explain something he'll call you a nerd immediately after you finish, retaining nothing
Isn't embarassed about being tutored at all, and will proudly yell 'teach' at you across a crowded hallway during school. Honestly is protective about the fact you're his personal tutor
summary: you were flattered when you were chosen to do an interview about the sudden improvement of a once-flightless team, but that feeling quickly faded away when you got there and realized who was also being interviewed...

a/n: wow, I live and breathe?? lol I am back from a big break hoping y'all are still around and hungry for a little Oikawa rivalry, lmk if you want a series. REQUESTS OPEN!
(gif not mine)
There were no words to describe your initial shock when you first got the call. They really wanted to do an interview with me? Despite the fact that you're a second-year, and only the manager of the Karasuno team, you were the one they chose for a story about current Japanese boys volleyball.
It seemed like a no-brainer to say yes, but as you got ready in a little dressing room by yourself, it started to feel way too real, way too scary. The reputation of the entire team was on your shoulders, and the way you conducted yourself in this interview had to be perfect. A little monitor was mounted on the wall of the dressing room, showing you the current broadcast. When the interviewer started to transition the show and introduce a volleyball player, your stomach dropped.
Am I up already? Shit- I'm not ready-
And then you saw him walk on screen, and felt your jaw drop.
A producer spoke to you through the door, "Hey, y/n, you're on in five!"
No way.. I'm going on with him??
This only worsened your growing anxiety- given your history with Oikawa. He had tried to talk to you after Karasuno's match with them in the fall, he even tried to get your number, and he did nothing but ignore him. From what you've heard from Kageyama, he's a total jerk. And ever since his initial rejection from you, you two had been less than friendly. You had made it pretty clear you wanted nothing to do with him, but there you were, finding yourself sweating in the wings, about to go on live TV with him.
You snapped back to reality when you heard the interviewer introducing you, "And to join Oikawa is a new face to volleyball, and she seems to be a vital part of the new success of Karasuno's boys volleyball club. Please welcome y/n l/n!"
You began to walk on, nearly shaking from nerves. The small live audience cheered loudly for you, which made it even more overwhelming. You took the only spot available, on a couch next to Oikawa. He looked at you with distain. You returned the glance.
The interviewer spoke again, "Hello, y/n!"
"Hi-"
You were immediately cut off, "I know you and Oikawa have met before..."
"We certainly have," Oikawa's familiar snarky tone stung your ears. He turned towards you, "You know, when I agreed to do this with a mystery guest, I had a feeling it might be you..."
You frowned slightly, trying to keep a good image for the cameras, "I guess I'm the only surprised one, then..."
"Yes, we thought it might make a fun dynamic to hear from two...conflicting... names in volleyball," The interviewer clarified.
Ahh, so this is a set-up, you thought, They want this to be tense, might as well give them what they're here for...
"Oh, rest assured Oikawa will always give you some drama," you said, clearly getting on his nerves.
"You know, y/n's not so bad at that herself," Oikawa quickly sends a jab back at you. The audience was highly reactive to you and Oikawa, gasping at your every word to each other.
The interviewer seemed content with your bickering, though she started to direct you to a more productive conversation, "So, y/n, what do you think about the quick rise in skill we've seen in Karasuno's team? Who's behind it all?"
You smile as you give the best answer you can, "Well, our returning players are incredibly skilled and have been demonstrating quite a bit of discipline in their training, as well as our new first-years that have come in with a lot of pre-existing talent. Not to mention our new coach."
Oikawa cuts in, "Honestly, Karasuno has only been getting attention from those new first-years, you know that right?"
"Our first-years have definitely been the subject of conversation for our team, sure-" you were cut off again.
"But do you think they're really remarkable, y/n-chan? Is it worth all that hype?" Oikawa eggs you on, mocking you with his tone.
"I think they're pretty great, yeah."
Oikawa mumbles after you, unsatisfied by your response, " 'pretty great...' "
The interviewer watched you two intently in a few seconds of silence, before butting in, "How about your #10 y/n? Is he the leader of your team's success?"
"Hinata is amazing, yeah, he's real driven, but I wouldn't say he's the team leader by any means, that would have to be our captain."
She nodded her head, "Your captain, hmm? Doesn't a lot of a team's leadership come from the setter position, too?" She looked towards Oikawa, who quickly weighed in.
"It certainly does.. but it would make total sense if Karasuno's leadership was dysfunctional- with their setter.." Oikawa scowled at his own mention of Kageyama, and you felt inclined to defend your teammate.
"Our regular setter is pretty phenomenal, actually, He definitely is in charge of the on-court communication, and he does that well."
"Really?" Oikawa scoffs, "The King of the Court? Doesn't Tobio-chan upset you sometimes?"
"Upset me? No, he's a great player and he knows what he's doing-" You pause, thinking of how to turn this on him, "What, Oikawa? Are you that intimidated by him?"
"Intimidated?" He forces a laugh, "No way. He's just selfish, that's all."
"You would know about that..." you jabbed back at him.
The interviewer seemed to be eating this up from her chair, as did the audience. She kept interrogating you two with questions to make you bicker with each other for an entire hour.
It felt like eternity, sitting next to that arrogant setter and staying on your best guard to return his banter, but weirdly enough, your conversation seemed to flow pretty naturally. Once the interview had concluded, you walked off into the wings next to him, and immediately sighed with relief upon getting out of view of the cameras.
Oikawa chuckled at you, "You were nervous, weren't you?"
"uh-" you were totally caught off guard by his question.
"You'll get used to it, I'm sure."
"What are you talking about?"
"C'mon, y/n-chan," he said, in a tone so forced he almost sounded whiny, "didn't you hear the audience in there? They're totally crazy for us. They'll want more."
"Huh?"
"You'd better hold onto this," he slipped a piece of paper into your hand with his phone number scribbled onto it, "I bet you'll want it when you start getting offers for us to make appearances together, I could make a lot of money off you..." He turned and began to walk away from you.
"Oikawa-" he suddenly turned back to you. "You're not going to hear from me, ever. I hate you. Get that through your head."
"Oh sure, I hate you even more, sweetheart. You can tell me more about it on the phone," He walks away completely dismissively, chuckling to himself as if he was the funniest guy in the world.
And there you were, completely speechless, feeling completely like an imposter in your own body. You slipped the piece of paper into your pocket and walked off in the other direction, hoping with all your might that everything Oikawa said was wrong.
thank you so much for reading, does anyone want a part 2?

a/n: big apologies for taking sooo long to write this, I've been so busy with my summer job! but i am active I swear, and when I see y'alls likes and reblogs ngl I kick my feet a little. here's some suga!!!!! (requests open!)
(gif not mine)
Another day, another practice match. By now, Sugawara had grown accustomed to standing on the sidelines and cheering instead of expecting any play time. And that was okay. He would support the team by putting on a smile even when that was the opposite of how he really felt. And when he watched Kageyama make such beautiful sets, all he felt was a hunger to grow even better himself. He never let jealousy overtake him, because that's just the way he is.
But when he saw your face entering the gym, walking straight towards him, his heart dropped. You knew he wasn't a regular on the team anymore, but knowing that didn't stop him from feeling a tinge of embarrassment on top of his already building nerves. He had been harboring a crush on you for God knows how long.
Before he even knew it his eyes were locked on you. Daichi and Asahi quickly took notice, as they were the only ones who knew of his hopelessness when it came to you. By the time you got to them Asahi had practically turned to face away from you entirely, his face completely pink with blush. So much so that it almost looked like he was the one with a crush, but everyone who knew him knew he gets nervous with secrets, and puts so much effort into making a good impression on people that his friends care about. Suga almost felt bad for him.
"Suga!" You smiled, giving him a little hug as you greeted him, then turning and hugging Daichi as well. You gave a little wave to Asahi, still turned away in embarrassment.
The way Suga smiled as he talked to you, and the slight blush on his cheeks was all the team needed to know to understand exactly who you were.
Hinata beamed from a few feet away, nudging Tsukishima with his arm in his attempt to whisper to him. Tsukki just rolled his eyes, but as he watched Suga, there was an unmistakable little side smile on his lips.
Nishinoya was quick to his curiosity, inserting himself into your conversation and nudging Daichi out of the way to talk to you. Out of the corner of his eye, Suga saw Daichi begin speaking awfully secretively to Kageyama, who just exchanged a little nod with him in return.
Soon enough, he saw just what they were talking about. Kageyama started very obviously rubbing his shoulder blade with a grimace on his face. He and Daichi walked over towards Suga to talk to coach Ukai.
Daichi initiated the conversation, "Coach, Kageyama's shoulder has really been hurting him..."
To everyone's surprise, Kageyama played along. Convincingly. "hmph, yeah... hurts pretty badly."
Daichi continued, "maybe he should sit this one out."
"I guess it's for the best," Kageyama sighed.
Coach Ukai seemed a little confused, but accepted, "Um, okay..." he directed his attention towards Suga, "Sugawara, it's all you today."
His stomach nearly turned all the way over, but he just nodded his head and started stretching. Unsurprisingly, the thing that calmed his nerves the most was when you spoke up, "Wow, I get to see you play today?"
"Uh- yeah! I guess so!"
"That's great—but hey— no pressure, okay?" You rested your hand on his shoulder and he just about melted into the floor of the gym.
"Got it."
Suddenly Tanaka reached out and pulled Suga away from you by his collar from behind, and merged him into the team huddle he just about missed as he lost track of time with you. Out of your earshot, they all shared a little laugh at Suga.
"Got a little something on your face there..." Noya laughed, pointing at his rosy cheeks.
"Shhh- Nishinoya!"
Tanaka ruffled up his hair, "I think you're okay, your little girlfriend is walking off to the student section..."
Suga sighed with relief.
"You didn't tell us about your crush, Suga-senpai!!" Hinata eagerly prodded at him.
"Guess it never came up.." Suga rubbed the back of his neck, feeling pressure from being the center of attention. He felt Asahi put a comforting hand on his back, silently reassuring him.
"Sugawara." Kageyama's voice rang out with the intensity of a raging fire, "Do well today."
Whether that was meant to be a threat or his way of giving words of encouragement, Suga just swallowed the lump in his threat and nodded his head. They put their hands together and cheered, and right as Suga began to take his first step onto the court, he heard Yamaguchi's familiar voice in his ear,
"Do well for her, and for us too."
Suga turned around to see a box full of the most supportive teammates he could've asked for, and your smiling face in the crowd right past them. Maybe it took seeing you there to realize just how important his role on the team was, regular or not.
warnings: feelings of inferiority, jealousy, slight cursing, calculus 💀
a/n: finally the long awaited academic rivals fic!! sorry I've been MIA for a couple days, I was traveling <3

Even after a long losing streak on the boy's volleyball team, Tsukishima always had one thing he believed he could never feel defeated in: his academics. School was just naturally easy to him, but that's not to say he doesn't work hard. It was his innate intelligence coupled with his work ethic that made him an absolute force in the classroom.
So when the calculus tests were being handed back, there wasn't a worry in his mind. The teacher set it on his desk face down.
Tsk, how dramatic, he thought, flipping it over.
In big red pen, he saw 98% written in bold on the top of the paper. Scoring a 98 was certainly above average, but not above Tsukki's average.
Before he could say a word the teacher was projecting at the front of the class, "Sorry, but there's no curve on this one. Somebody managed a perfect score, so it was achievable."
What?
The class murmured, upset with pretty mediocre grades for such a prestigious class. Discontent spouted from all directions. Well, besides directly from Tsukki's left hand side, where you sat. It was silent as a mouse. Awfully suspicious.
He stole a quick side glance at you to see exactly what he feared, a big, bold, 100% at the top of your test.
No matter how hard he tried for the rest of the day, he just couldn't shake that jealousy from his mind— the constant image of your perfect test seemingly ingrained to the back of his eyelids. He was so used to setting the curve in that class, how could he have overlooked competition this whole time?
☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
Later that day at practice, he tried channeling his emotions into his gameplay, with mild success. He was definitely playing with the kind of ambition he often lacked after long days of school.
When the team stopped for a water break, Nishinoya was quick to chime in, "Hey Tsukki, what's got you so worked up??"
The annoying presence of his pesky teammate irritated Tsukishima, "I doubt you'd even be able to understand it, dumbass."
Noya's face dropped at the outburst, "Sure Tsukki. Just let me know when you've pulled the stick out of your butt!!"
☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
Days went by, then weeks, and Tsukishima's hunger to match your academic achievement only grew. He became exceedingly obvious about it.
Every time you raised your hand, suddenly he did.
At the end of every test, when you stood up to turn it in, so did he. And his legs were long enough to beat you to handing it in every time.
When the tests were returned, you started to turn and catch his eye as he stared intensely trying to get a peak at your grade. Eventually you just made an effort to show him. After all, you weren't insecure about your grades. They were phenomenal and you both knew it.
The real surprises began when you both started to talk to each other. Suddenly the rivalry was put into words. It started out friendly, asking about when due dates were and simple things like that, but eventually you started to full-on taunt each other. Everything became a competition, and you weren't about to lose.
Even friendship had become a competition, you could feel Tsukishima's glare burning a hole in you when you turned around and asked Yamaguchi for a pencil one time. Not to mention when he had caught you talking to him before class. If only he had known what kind of information Yamaguchi let slip about him.
The final straw was when the teacher called for a group project, and you immediately turned around and looked at Yamaguchi. That was too far. Tsukishima immediately snapped, "Y/n, what do you think you're doing?"
"What's the big deal?"
Tsukki met your resistance with fierce eye contact, "You're working with me."
"huh?"
Yamaguchi's face was just as shocked as yours for a second, but he quickly shook it off and asked a boy who sat near him to work with him.
You pulled up a chair to Tsukki's desk and got to work on the packet of problems you were assigned to complete during the next two classes. You remained mostly in silence, dividing the work equally, but occasionally you shared glances and raised your eyebrows as a way to taunt each other.
As you started to run out of room on your paper and move far to the right side with your writing, your hand bumped Tsukki's. You could feel your heart drop and he quickly recoiled and pulled his hand away.
When you finished your allotment of problems for the day and set your pencil down, Tsukishima quickly grabbed your paper and starting checking over your work as you followed suit, looking over his.
He sighed, setting your paper down, free off mistakes. "Wow, you aren't quite as hopeless as I thought."
"Same to you..." you returned his completed problems, "If only you were as good at volleyball as you are at calculus."
"Like you would know," he returned your banter with a fervor, a quality you caught yourself enjoying a little.
"You'd think with four eyes you'd be a little more observant..."
"What?" He grasped to understand your insinuation.
"Look harder in the student section next time."
He sat in silence, floored, now knowing you had been watching him play. Is this what he had caught you and Yamaguchi discussing before? He felt like a fool, not being able to feel your malicious gaze on the court—not even considering that you might've been there.
Little did he know, it wasn't quite malice in your heart as you watched him play.
☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾ ☾
He left without saying a word when the bell rung, and flocked straight to Yamaguchi to walk with him to practice.
They made sure to walk out of the vicinity of the classroom before Yamaguchi broke the silence, "Tsukki?"
"Yes?"
"I'm not upset that you didn't partner with me, but uh... why her? I thought you kinda hated her."
"Oh, uh... I don't know. I didn't want her to work with you."
Yamaguchi looked Tsukki in the eyes, his curiosity peaking, "Do you have a crush on her?"
Tsukishima was completely taken aback, "A crush??" He hesitated, "Yamaguchi, don't say stuff like that."

a/n: I LOVE THE HAIKYUU FANDOM SMMMM <333 you guys are my favs. requests open !! and the tsukki academic rivals fic is in the works for anyone wondering...

One thing you had quickly learned while dating Kageyama is that he's not one for public displays of affection. You certainly weren't secret, hell pretty much everyone knew and was talking about you two, but you kept it private. Especially in front of his opponents. That's why it came as such a shock when you felt his arms aroudn you suddenly in the middle of a practice match.
To say you had a migraine that day was an understatement. Three days into the trining camp, in excruciating heat working late to help the team reform their entire strategies form the bottom up— you were exhausted.
But you were used to the migraines. It was something you could handle. The team is already under so much stress, especially Tobio. His sets hadn't been satisfactory, and he was re-learning everything he already knew from scratch. You couldn't imagine the pressure you knew he already felt, so keeping the pressure of your aching head a secret was nothing in comparison.
That doesn't mean nobody noticed, though. Walking into the first practice set of the day, Coach Ukai made a comment.
"Y/n, are you feeling okay?"
"Yes! Feeling good..."
"Okay, just let me know if you need to take a breather or something."
Had you already been exposed? The last thing you wanted was to be a burden on the team, but the floaters in your vision were a bit hard to ignore. And when the ringing in your ears set in, it got worse. Much worse.
By the third set of the day, you weren't faring well. You stood on the sidelines, taking notes on gameplay, when your vision started to black out completely. You widened your eyes to realize you couldn't see a thing. Your head pounding, you focused all your energy on just staying on your feet.
A deep voice yelled out, "Y/n? Are you okay?"
You recognized it as Daichi's voice, "Don't worry Daichi, I'm just fine..."
You heard Asahi chime in, "uh.. That was Kuroo talking...on the other side of the court..."
Before you knew it, Kageyama rushed off the court, running towards you and supporting you with his hand on your back, "Damn y/n, you can't see a thing, can you?" You recognized his touch and sent in front of you immediately.
"I'm okay, really."
"Sure.." he dismissed you. "I've got you okay? Must be scary, not being able to see..." he mumbled. "Can you walk if I support you? Here.." He started slowly helping you walk towards the exit of the gym.
"KAGEYAMA!" Hinata shouted, "What's going on??"
He sighed, looking back at the court, "She gets bad migraines, but she'll be okay, don't worry."
There was a collective sigh and chatter resumed across the volleyball court now that everyone understood the issue. Some players were wishing you well, but you could hear next to nothing with the ringing in your ears.
"I'm walking her to her room," Kageyama declared to Coach Ukai before continuing to support you to walk.
"Yeah, yeah, okay. SUGAWARA, get in there."
Suga jolted into action, stepping onto the court to fill Kageyama's place.
And that's the last moment you could clearly make out before you woke up.
You were laying on your back, a cold towel draped across your forehead and a blanket over your body. Tobio sat on the floor next to your bed, and turned around to face you quickly when you heard you moving.
"Y/n," he whispered. "Here, have some water." He handed you a bottle of ice water and you took a couple sips.
"Thank you..."
"No problem, but, why didn't you tell me something was wrong?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to distract you."
"That's ridiculous, your migraines are serious and I deserve to know."
"You're right, I'm sorry."
You felt his hand slowly wrap around yours, "No, I...I've been so stressed out and mad at myself I didn't even realize what that might do to you. So absorbed in my own world..."
"My migraine is not your fault Tobio."
"Drink some more," he pushed the water towards you, noticeably keepin ghis voice low and soft to not irritate your head.
You took another sip and sighed, "I'm serious. You have nothing to do with it."
"Regardless, I have everything to do with it now. I'm not leaving your side until you're back to one hundred percent, okay?"
"You don't need to do that."
"But I'm going to," he assured you, squeezing your hand tightly in his, "besides, I'm lucky to be your nurse when you've got quite a few people eager to see you..."
"Really?"
"Yeah, but I don't think those guys have ever whispered in their lives," he chuckled softly, "I told them to piss off until I say you're ready."
"You're the best, Tobio."
"I know."
Before you could even open your mouth to thank him, he pressed a quick kiss to your cheek and set you back in your thoughts.

Kageyama Tobio
Kageyama gives it his all during every practice, meaning he comes home completely exhausted every night. And awfully hungry.
On days where he had already showered he just came in the door, said hello, took off his shirt and hopped straight in bed. Face-down.
It takes him a little while to re-gain his energy, so he just lays there for a good fifteen or twenty minutes until he usually stirred upon smelling whatever you were preparing for dinner.
You usually took care of dinner after his long practices, because you had the extra time and it was one thing that always made Tobio happy. To repay you, he usually made breakfast for you in the morning after he went on a run.
He would get out of bed, walk to the kitchen, and approach you from behind, wrapping his arms around you and peering at what you were doing over your head.
"Mm.." he hummed, still waking up, "I love you.."
You chuckled in response, "Do you love me or the food I'm making?"
"Definitely both..."
Be the time you were able to sit down and eat Tobio was fully awake. It might just be his ravenous appetite, but on thing you always loved about Tobio at dinner is that he would listen a lot more than he spoke. He just seemed to like hearing about everything you had gotten up to while he was away.
After dinner he opted to spend more time with you, watching TV usually, but he was up for whatever you suggested. You typically fell asleep before him, and sometimes he would get so excited just to be around you that he would unwind and set a volleyball to himself in bed next to you until he was tired enough to fall asleep.
Oikawa Tooru
He is definitely the kind of guy to sneak up behind you, cover your eyes and say something random. However, over time he switched to wrapping his arms around you and you felt like the things he would say to greet you became less cringey, but maybe you had just fallen even harder for him.
He always felt slightly energized after practice, something about the validation of hitting a perfect serve or receiving a compliment from his teammates gave him a boost. Even on days where he didn't have the best practice, he always put on a smile for you.
He would insist on being the one to cook or take you out, and it was his favorite thing when you decided to come sit on the counter and talk to him while he made dinner.
When he gave updates on the team and his day, he often kept it kind of vague. If you inquired about another player his smile would drop to kind of a stand-offish expression and he would dismiss it, simply saying something like, "Oh yeah, he's fine."
After all, he only wanted you to be thinking about him.
He would change into comfier clothes after dinner and naturally start to get more tired, the endorphin rush from practice having worn off, and the exhaustion setting in. But he would totally pretend he wasn't falling asleep to you. Even gaslighting you that you're definitely the tired one. This would result in a lot of laughter, and you eventually being swept up and carried to bed.
Hinata Shoyo:
He comes home an absolutely energetic freak! You can't mistake his arrival as he struggles to turn the key in the door as quickly as possible, usually resulting in him having to start all over again.
When he does eventually get in the house, he beelines it right towards you and engulfs you in a hug.
"I missed you!"
You struggle to respond, muffled in the hug, "I missed you too Shoyo."
"Practice was great.."
"Tell me all about it."
He's always all over you upon returning home, with a million stories to tell. If you asked about his day, rest assured you would hear about nearly every detail. His tendency to share even the smallest details is something he used to be a little shy about, but you always listened so attentively that over time he had completely gotten over that insecurity.
Neither of you wanted to leave each others' side long enough to cook a good meal, so you usually ended up ordering in. It was quite the struggle just to get Shoyo off you to get the food sometimes though, but when he did get it, he would practically inhale his meal and then finish whatever you didn't eat as well. It was sorta nice having a human garburator around, after all.
You and Shoyo would often fall asleep at the same time, sometimes still in a conversation together. Either you would wake up and drag him off the couch and to bed, or he would practically shake you up and take you there.
One of the best things about living with Hinata was how appreciated you felt from the moment he stepped in the door. He wanted everything to do with you all the time, and that feeling of devoted love was next to nothing.

You had loosely known Tsukishima all year now, as you shared the same class and often found yourselves sitting by each other and pairing up for assignments. It was no secret that he was intelligent, but you could hold your own despite how intimidating he could sometimes be.
Recently, you had been making quite the effort to see him outside of class, though you weren't quite sure he had gotten the hint. You had been coming to his games, talking to him more in class, and you even altered your route to school to intersect with his. He hadn't been receptive, though, and if anything could be considered your enemy, it might be those damn headphones.
You had one last idea, though. Sitting next to him in your last class of the day, you tapped him on the shoulder.
"Hm?"
"Hey, um, you mind staying after class for a few to help me out with this problem on my math homework? I'm so lost..."
"Oh, yeah. Sure. I have some time before practice."
"Thank you," You returned to your work, now unable to focus. You know you were the one who asked him to stay, but the idea of being alone with him after class made your stomach turn.
Soon enough, the bell had rung, and you had gotten absolutely nowhere on your work. The class cleared out until it was just you and Tsukishima. He pulled his chair closer to share your desk as you got out your math homework. You handed it to him and he skimmed it over, the silence between you almost deafening.
"Mm, wait, what is it that you don't get?" He asked, puzzled.
"Uh, the last one."
"But you did the whole sheet correctly. You just wrote out the equation and didn't solve it on the last one."
Oh God, I guess you didn't think this far. How could you be so dumb? A perfect sheet of homework didn't exactly scream that you needed help. You made up the best excuse you could, "Yeah, but I looked back at it after the lesson and I just don't even remember how to do it...can you show me?"
"Sure.." he picked up a pencil and took the problem step by step, mumbling an explanation under his breath. At one point, he looked up and saw your eyes fixed on him. You could've sworn there was a peak of blush, but he looked back down at the sheet before you could get a good look. "There, uh, does that make more sense?"
"Yes, it's perfect. Thank you..."
"No problem," He hesitated, as if he was about to say something else but was held back, "You've been coming to my games, right?"
"Oh, yes! I've kinda been getting into the sport..."
"Are you coming tomorrow, too?"
"Do you want me to?"
That caught him off guard, a flash of fear in his eyes, "Uh- well, sure." He looked at his phone quickly for the time and began to frantically pack up, "Shoot, I'm about to be late. I guess I'll see you tomorrow."
"Sorry to keep you!" You were upset with yourself for having kept him so long, "Good luck at practice!"
And at that moment your heart nearly skipped a beat when you saw him swallow before answering, "thanks."
He walked out the door and you were left practically with your jaw dropped. You packed up quickly and went to your locker to put your homework away.
You were once again filled with anxiety upon hearing familiar voices down the hall.
"She WHAT? And you don't think she really needed help-" Yamaguchi's voice squeaked through the hall, having not noticed you yet. You glance down the hallway and see Tsushima talking to him, Tsukki's back facing you. Was he really talking about you?
Yamaguchi continued, "Dude you need to go back before she-" he clasped his hands over his mouth, finally noticing your presence down the hall.
Tsukishima turned around to see you standing there, his face completely flushed. Yamaguchi pushed him towards you quickly before running off to avoid whatever Tsukishima might do to him when he catches him.
There you were, standing alone facing your nearly-190-centimeter crush. He turned around to watch Yamaguchi dart off. He sighed, and turned back to face you, walking towards you.
"Y/n?"
You turned to him, closing your locker. "Yes?"
"You're not dumb. Obviously. You didn't need my help back there. And so I won't pretend you didn't just hear that."
You were absolutely speechless.
"Do you like me, y/n?"
"I- uh..."
"Because I like you." He grew more anxious as you delayed to respond, "is that okay?"
"Yes!" The word burst out of you, "More than okay."
a/n: another long distance one, yes this was supposed to be one post with the oikawa one but the blurbs got too long and they wanted to be separated anyways lol, as always tysm for reading and my requests are open <3

You would never be one to hold back your boyfriend from chasing his passion, and the offer from Ali Roma was just too good for him to pass up, you knew that. But it didn't make long distance any easier.
The hardest part was probably the time difference. As it turns out, 7 hours of a difference really interfered with your time together. Which is why it was such a surprise to hear your phone ringing at 7 pm your time, when you knew it was only noon in Italy and Tobio would most likely be practicing.
You picked up his facetime to see him dressed comfortably in his apartment, not in his usual workout attire. And it looked like he had just showered, with obviously wet hair in his face.
"Tobio!" You greeted him excitedly.
"Who else did you expect?"
"Well, it's awfully early to be hearing from you."
"Yeah, coach is sick. We got the day off to train on our own so I started early."
You realized he must have woken up extremely early to have completed his workout, gotten home, and showered in time to call you at noon. Did he do this all for you?
Before you could ask you heard a ring at your doorbell.
Tobio mumbled, "Oh, good, It's there."
"What?" You asked as you moved your way to the door to find a bag of your favorite take-out sitting right outside.
"I had them leave it outside because you're antisocial or whatever..." He teased.
You picked up the bag and closed the door, "Tobio, did you order this for me? Thank you..."
"Yeah, I got some for me too, well, not from the same place but like, the Italian equivalent." He set down the phone and you could see him eating.
"Aw, this is amazing Kags.." You unpackaged the food to find at least two or three meals worth. You laughed, "oh my god, Tobio, this is way too much food."
He seemed surprised by this, "Oh, you're right. Guess I was hungry when I ordered." You remembered his extreme appetite and smiled, it was as if he was with you after all.
"Don't worry, I'll just save some for tomorrow. If only you were here to eat it all."
"Soon, don't worry."
Soon? He hadn't told you of any plans he made to visit. "Do you mean that?"
His eyes widened a little, like he told you a secret he wasn't supposed to let out. He looked at the camera and his eyes softened, "Well I was supposed to save this for a different surprise, but, did you seriously think I'd miss our anniversary?"
Your face lit up upon hearing of his plans to travel back for your anniversary in three weeks, "No way, really?"
"Mmhm," he mumbled with a mouth full of food, "I'm yours for the whole weekend."
"Perfect," you smiled, "I better start planning things now... my friends are worried for when you visit though, they think i might just let you take me back to Italy with you."
He chuckled at that, but you spoke again before you could finish chewing, "You know, I think they might be right."
His straightened up, locking his attention on you in shock, "Are you serious?"

You had always felt like long-distance was a little harder on you than it was on him, despite his constant reminders that he misses you just as much. When he moved to Argentina he was swept up in the sport he had always been so devoted to, and who knew there would be just as many fangirls in Argentina as there were in Japan?
You were the only one who got to know Tooru in the way that you do, though. You have everything those girls want but could never have, but there was always still a lingering tinge of jealousy for the fact that they got to be physically around him while you were constantly reminded of his absence.
You sat in your apartment, eagerly tuning in to an interview Oikawa was doing. You opened your phone to see Tooru had sent you yet another picture of himself, this time showing you the outfit he had chosen for the interview. Soon enough, you see his tall frame walk on screen and sit down with the interviewer.
The questions had been pretty normal, asking mostly about his sport and his experience as an olympian. But your attention was particularly grabbed when the interviewer started asking about his personal life.
"So, Oikawa, it's no secret that you're the attracting force of a new fanbase, particularly a lot of girls your age have been tuning in since you joined the team here in Argentina."
He kept his sincere composure, seemingly unfazed by the question and still flashing his million-dollar smile, "Yes, I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of fans lately, which I'm grateful for."
"Oh, you have? Anyone in particular? I know our viewers are dying to know if someone has captured your heart."
"Well I hope I make it come across clearly that I'm in a serious relationship..." He responded using a light-heated tone, but he still came off a little defensive. You didn't mind that.
"Really? Tell us more!"
"I try to keep that aspect of my personal life a little more private, but I have a beautiful girlfriend back in Japan. I hope to show you more of her soon," He smiled so confidently while talking about you, and the respectful way he always spoke about you made your heart melt.
"How do you feel about your fans then? Are you creeped out?" The interviewer seemed to be asking questions to probe him for drama rather than discuss his career, which felt so skeevy to you. Thankfully, Oikawa was more than equipped to handle the questions.
"I'm always grateful for the support, and honestly flattered, but I always call for fans to respect my relationship and it hasn't been a huge issue." He smiled and nodded his head, "I just find myself so in love that it doesn't even faze me anymore. I don't give a single look to other girls." Upon hearing this your cheeks flushed red; there was no better words he could've said to the world to solidify how he felt about you and push away prying eyes.
A similar rush was given to you as you saw the words "I just find myself so in love that it doesn't phase me anymore" printed at the top of a news article the next day with your boyfriend's smiling face right below.
Long distance was not easy by any stretch, but having Oikawa Tooru as your boyfriend made it so worth it.
summary: learning Italian to move to Italy with Kageyama!
a/n: my blog has been getting sm love <333 tysm!! Love you all and hmu with requests!!
(gif not mine!)
It was nothing short of insane to decide to move across the world with your boyfriend. At least, that's what other people seemed to think. Japan had been a beautiful home with many memories, but your relationship with Kageyama took first priority in your life.
It was the most meaningful thing you could say when you asked you, the immediate yes to move across the globe for his passion served as the highest declaration of your love.
But now it was time to act on it. About a month out from your move, you were caught trying to learn as much Italian as possible as quickly as you could. The familiar chirp of duolingo had become all too familiar in your apartment, as you religiously practiced and watched Italian movies in preparation for the big move.
Language hadn't ever come easily to you or Kageyama, but not being able to communicate in a foreign country was a big worry of yours, despite how often you were reassured it would be okay. But, for once, the studying didn't really bother you. Perhaps it's just the ambition for his sport that had rubbed off on you, but at this point, you would seriously do anything for Tobio.
The familiar rustle of keys in the door sent a wave of relief upon you, as it always did. Soon enough, your boyfriend stood in the doorway, freshly showered after practicing. You smiled and greeted him, and he quickly gilled in the spot next to you on the couch.
"Another Italian movie, huh?" He examined the scene, seeing that you were clearly studying the language.
"Yeah! I've been learning a lot..."
"Really?" He gave you a sideways smirk, his way of communicating a smile despite his awful smiling ability.
"Yes, it's um.. a little exciting, in a way..." you explained, sliding closer to him on the couch and resting your head on his shoulder. You quickly noticed his shoulder being tighter than usual, though. And upon looking at his face, you could see unmistakable traces of nerves throughout his body.
"Tobio?"
He seemed to jolt back to reality, "Y/n?"
"You okay?"
"Yeah, just, thinking about our move...you know."
You rest your head on him again, sighing, "I know." The move had been weighing on both your minds equally, both with excitement and fear.
"I'm just happy I have you to come with me," Tobio expressed as he wrapped a comforting arm around your shoulder.
"Me too...and learning a new language has been sorta fun."
"You think?" He turned to you, amazed at your enjoyment of learning Italian, which in his mind was such a tedious thing to do.
"Definitely. Especially when. I get all the enjoyment of showing you what I learned." You leaned into him, whispering, "Ti amo, Tobio..."
His cheeks flushed pink upon hearing it. "Ti amo, y/n. I love you so much."
To hear your voice utter such sincere love in the language you had learned just for him was exactly what he needed after a long day. Though he often felt like a burden for seemingly forcing his girlfriend to pack up and move with his untraditional career, there was something about your constant support that he knew would just scream home to him regardless of where life took you.
thank you so much for reading loves ♡
[masterlist]
a/n: because I'm obsessed with a confident reader who loves Kageyama loudly! and him being shy! If you're a nerd like me this sorta takes place in ep 2x07. Also send me requests if you have them, I don't bite i swear. Love y'all, that's all.
In hindsight, it wasn't surprising. The sets at group practices were unserious, despite the flaming passion for the sport the Karasuno team had always displayed. So when Tsukishima didn't jump for another spike and displayed a general lack of effort that day, and suddenly coach Ukai was whispering to the other team's coach, you probably should've made some connections.
Regardless, it was quite a shock when you heard coach address you at a time out, "Tsukishima, take off your pennie and give it to y/n. Y/n, show him how you play with some spirit, okay?"
"huh- Oh, okay, yeah," You accepted his position while the team stared in a mix of disbelief that not only was tsukki subbed out, but they wanted you, a manager, to demonstrate his position. There was a general hub of satisfaction, though. You were always well-liked and a good player, and the enthusiastic team was ready for you to give it your all. Any hint of nerves were quickly shook off of you with their contagious fervor for the sport.
And then you saw his hilarious attempt at a smile. Kageyama was clearly excited to have his girlfriend play alongside him, as that familiar grimace was etched onto his face. You slip the pennie over your head as the team clumps closer together.
Kageyama is first to speak, "Okay, y/n, how do you like your tosses?"
His fiery ambition for the sport had always been attractive to you, but when that attention was focused towards you, it was magnetic.
"hmm, how do I like them? Definitely a little tall..." he nodded his head as you clarified, "with dark hair and blue eyes."
Kageyama's cheeks immediately flushed pink when you realized you weren't describing a set. The other members of the team chuckled to themselves, pushing his shoulder teasingly.
You save him from his flustered paralysis by breaking the silence, "I'll be able to spike whatever you toss, don't worry." Your typical confidence was on full display, but your teammates knew you really meant that you trusted Kageyama's skill as a setter. And internally, you were just honored to be trusted and tossed to by such a genius on the court.
You all put your hands in and give a final cheer, tossing a quick wink to Kageyama before running out onto the court to release your energy alongside the most ambitious team you could've ever asked for.
After a long day of practices, one thing was on your mind. It had already been nearly a week since the team had arrived in Tokyo and you had barely gotten to see Kageyama outside of practice.
It wasn't long before you found yourself leaving your hotel room and walking down the hallway to your boyfriend's room. Then there was only one thing in the way.
A 190 centimeter blonde boy with glasses who seemed to be out for your blood.
You knocked on the door and before you knew it, Tsukishima answered. Not ideal, but you knew the first-years were sharing a room.
"Hey Tsukki!"
"What?"
You paused for a moment, and he cut you off, "You want something. What?"
"Um...Is Kageyama busy?"
"Yes," before you could even process, he shut the door on you.
Okay, definitely not ideal.
You sigh, realizing there's no way you're getting into that room. Thankfully, only a few doors down you knew you would be perfectly welcome. You traipse your way to the third-years' room, and knock.
Soon you're faced with the long-haired anxious boy you've grown so fond of.
"Asahi!"
"Y/n! What are you doing here?"
"Funny story..."
"Oh. Come in and explain."
You take the invitation and walk into the room to realize you're alone.
"Where are the others?"
"They wanted to do a little cool-down after practice. I opted out of that one..." He explains, blushing a little at his embarrassment of skipping out of a work-out, but you were grateful to have him here. "Anyways, what's the occasion?"
"Actually, Tsukishima is puppy-guarding me from seeing my boyfriend."
Asahi chuckled at your bold statement, "Really? How unfortunate."
"Well, maybe that's where you come in."
"What?" Asahi looked completely puzzled.
"Um.. well, if you didn't mind being the best friend in the entire world...maybe Kageyama could come over here and enjoy your spacious bathroom with me?"
Asahi's face went totally pale. "Um, I don't know if I should be uh...letting first years do that in here..."
You blushed like a madman, "NO, NO, Not that!!!" You laughed. "PG-13. I swear. I just haven't gotten to be alone with him in like a week."
"Oh, alright...you promise? Kinda made it sound like tsukki was cock-blocking you there."
You burst out laughing at that sentence coming from Asahi's mouth.
"I swear."
Asahi's cheeks flushed a little pink, "Why not your room?"
"Yachi is like totally scared of Tobio..."
"Right. Okay, sure.. go ahead..."
"Did I ever tell you that you're the best?"
"Yep," He chuckled, sitting back on is bed and scrolling on his phone as you texted Kageyama the room number.
And as quickly as you had entered his room, suddenly Asahi was contemplating how he had gotten into the situation where you and your boyfriend were together in his bathroom. He was practically babysitting. At least he didn't hear anything suspicious, which meant hopefully you really did have pure intentions. He's not sure what he would do if you didn't.
Abruptly he heard a little click from outside the rom, and the door start to open. He held his breath for a second, but felt relaxed when he saw it was just Daichi and Suga. He could explain this.
"Hey, guys, uh... don't go in the bathroom."
They stopped dead in their tracks, confused.
"Um, why not?" Daichi inquired.
"It's just that, well, y/n and Kageyama are in there."
"What??" Suga asked.
Asahi sighed, "Wouldn't you do it for a friend?"
Daichi and Suga stared blankly at him.
"It's innocent, she promised. They're just like, I don't know, little kids who miss each other."
Daichi laughed, "Okay, sure. Why here?"
"Apparently Tsukishima is getting in their way? I don't know..."
Suga chuckled and started spilling the contents of his pockets onto the table and settling in. "Now that's a little hilarious."
Daichi shrugged and sat down as well. "You think y/n cares that you sorta see her as a baby?"
"Nah," Asahi smiled, "She totally owes me after this anyways."
And, just like clockwork, Asahi's phone buzzes with a venmo notification of $15 from y/n. He laughed and the door started to open. Kageyama walked out, wiping his mouth on his sleeve, and looked shocked at the room, now full of his seniors.
He turned around to you, "didn't know there was an audience??"
You walk out behind him, blushing a little, but smiling nicely at your upperclassmen.
You see a hint of pinkness creeping over Kageyama's cheeks as he turns around and faces the door. "better get back before Hinata spreads rumors."
"Sure," you laugh.
The door shuts behind him and you're left in the room with the third-years, a little embarrassed.
"I-"
Daichi cuts you off before you can continue, "Yeah, don't worry, we didn't see a thing."
You sigh of relief and take a seat next to Asahi.
Three Months Later
During a classic training camp team-bonding exercise, the Karasuno team sits in a tight circle playing a truth-or-dare style game.
When Nishinoya's turn arrives, he stares dead into Asahi's eyes, making him nervous before even asking his question.
"Asahi, you're pretty tight with y/n, huh?"
He nodded his head.
"What's the craziest thing you've ever done for her?"
He stammers, "Well, um... there was this time in Tokyo.."
"NOPE-" You interject, silencing him. Daichi and Sugawara both exchange knowing glances. "Asahi, I will seriously kill you."
"Me first," Kageyama says, staring daggers into Asahi, flames practically bursting out from behind him.
"Uh- can I like, do diving drills instead??" Asahi pleads.
a/n: thank you for indulging me in that cheeky one <3, let me know what you think and reblogs are so so appreciated.
