Me whenever my friends accomplish literally anything
EEAAO won 7 Oscars out of 11 nominations. My birthday is 11/7. My cousin's birthday is 7/11. We are also Asian. So are WE everything...everywhere??? all...at...once?!
Elena Soo is strongly anti-prom, even going so far as to try to stage an alternative prom event to benefit her beloved community center—and then her childhood friend surprises her, dropping back into her life after four years with an over-the-top promposal. Did we mention he has grown up into a pink-haired K-Pop star? Once upon a K-Prom is a super sweet friends-to-lovers story that will keep you turning the pages. The dialogue is playful and romantic and the K-Pop details give the reader a little glimpse into the world of K-Pop idols.
Honored that ONCE UPON A K-PROM is a nominee for the 2023 Milwaukee County Teen Book Award along with some of my fave reads last year!
BOOKS SAVE LIVES!!!
WE NEED DIVERSE BOOKS
When all your life you hear people tell you to go back to your own country, you start to believe you don’t belong in the only place you’ve ever called home. Thank you Amy Tan for JOY LUCK CLUB & healing me & saving me from my own self loathing. Little me would have loved to have had the books that are now being attacked. We must fight back against book bans and remind everyone that Books Save Lives!!!
Reminder: the staff at Harper Collins are on strike for better wages. They are literally out there in these icy cold streets trying to make sure they can do their jobs, and give you books, without starving. Here’s their linktree; help them out, if you can?
okay but change that to "30s" and it's SO accurate, I can't even...
I've done it. I've found my favorite tweet ever.
Okay but this is super true
The way I sent this to ALL of my writer friends so fast because it is SO TRUE
Classic
Oh damn! The real NK Jemison! I just finished the Broken Earth trilogy this year, and it was fantastic! Thank you for writing.
What's your favourite advice for writers?
Thanks!
My favorite advice for writers is just... Persist. If you want to write, then start writing and keep writing. If you aren't getting published (assuming you go tradpub), then keep working on your craft and learning your audience. If you're good enough to publish but you're still not breaking in, keep trying; took me 10 loooooong years and two novels, from the time I started submitting things, before I sold a novel. Or go the selfpub route and persist at that.
I meet a lot of up-and-coming writers who just... give up too easy. And I get it. This is a brutal business, in which you tear out your own heart and offer it up to strangers as a snack, and sometimes they spit on it, knock it out of your hands, and stomp on it. It's hard, really hard, to brace yourself for the number that publishing does on your self-esteem -- especially if you're someone like me who still, yes after 5 Hugos, suffers from imposter syndrome. (Cause imposter syndrome is irrational like that.) But you have to, if you want to break in. You have to believe in yourself when nobody else will. And you have to persist.
Anyway, I'm not good at the whole advice thing. Here's someone better.
Still totally in love with the art by Velinxi for my young adult k-pop romcom Once Upon a K-Prom! About a Korean American girl whose childhood best friend moved back to Seoul to become one of the biggest K-Pop idols in the world. But before he left, he promised to take her to prom. Now, seven years later, she thinks he’s completely forgotten her until he shows up on her doorstep to keep that promise (paparazzi, fans, drama and all!)
I'm like irrationally excited to watch this variety show with Ji Changwook, Park Bogum, Kim Yoojung and Park Seojun
