just finished watching zootopia 2
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. For me, this falls in that limited pool where the sequel more than makes up for an already amazing first film.
There are so many things I loved about it, but of course first and foremost, JUDY AND NICK.
LIKE no one can argue that theyāre not canon anymore right?? THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY CANON WOW. Sure, theyāre as oblivious as all heck but man they are so obsessed with each other, itās not even funny. No subtlety whatsoever.
An early review said 90% of the movie was just Nick giving Judy ābedroom eyesā. AND THEY WERE NOT WRONG. Her visiting his den?? Maybe slightly nsfw but Judy, there is absolutely another reason why he never dared to invite you over.
Sure, he has a hard time getting the words out, but absolutely everyone can see how much he adores his partner, his bunny. Sure, I did miss his ācattyā line from the novelization, but the little changes and actually seeing everything on the screen floored me.
His absolutely outraged expression just seeing Judy and Pawbert talking to each other.
HE ADORES HER SO MUCH. Even when he disagrees with her, that absolutely fond expression he always has for her (when sheās not risking her life of course) whenever sheās her saving the world self. The only time he puts his paw down is when Judy risks, not even his, but her own life! Thatās when he asks she apologize because how dare Judy risk Nick losing her forever!
DARE I FORGET! PROTECTIVE PARTNERS! Itās in the little things. How Nick will intervene when he sees Judy getting sad when Bogo talks to her. How Judy was just about ready to wreck someone(!) with the "what does the fox say" joke. Nick could care less, but Judy was ready to throw down for her partner. They are so feral for each other. Like Hogbottom's 'You don't respect anyone' line is so pointed. Except Judy, like the narrative paints Judy as the one animal's opinion he care so much about.
Him plopping the hat on her!! It's the little things you know? Judy just wants to steamroll everything that she forgets herself, but Nick is always there to take care of her. (Goshdarn so many little things like moving her out of the way from the truck, he is so goshdarn caring and protective.)
With all the marriage coding, Nick just wanting them to skip town is basically him wanting them to elope lol. (I get the reason for the sudden release of the Wildehopps wedding attire now, I see you, I see you.)
HE FRAMED THE ARTICLE. He is absolutely adorable. He keeps the carrot pen like a shrine, and is so so careful with it, AND HE BRINGS IT EVERYDAY (I see the callback with the fox repellant there, again I see you, I see you). Nick Wilde, certified professional yearner everybody. Nobody does it like this fox.
BONNIE AND STU COMPARING WILDEHOPPS TO THEIR OWN MARRIAGE. They will be supportive when these two finally make it official, I swear. āYou can be right, or you can be happy!ā LOL. Something tells me Nick and Stu get along great!
āHave fun at the Honeymoon Lodge!ā I was WHEEZING. I canāt believe they were able to sneak that in. And Nickās āthank you!ā just seriously sells it. Everyone, absolutely everyone in this believe Judy and Nick are married wow.
NO, NO, even better, "The safeword is coconuts", WHILE TWEAKING HER EAR AND WHISPERING INTO IT?? HOW AND WHO DO I THANK FOR THIS MOVIE. This is a nsfw movie masquerading as a family friendly adventure. I tell you they have way more tension than what is necessary. They are practically the poster children for "There is no platonic explanation for this". Like this moment and so many more is why I believe they're canon. I feel so connected to the people who worked on this film. Like same as us, same as us. I am sure each and every one of them is a diehard Wildehopps shipper. Willing to bet that some of them have even read the fics.
Judyās devastation when she thinks Nick is about to die. Like she herself is dying, but she will pull her dying body and crawl if it means helping him.
JUDY'S SO EVERYONE CAN SEE "WE BELONG TOGETHER" line?? I get the Taylor Swift references now. There is absolutely no way Nick stood a chance against that. Just melt that fox's heart like a good ol' pawpsicle why don't you?? Nick's pov at that moment was basically this: "If my girlfriend thinks she can just bat her cute lil eyes at me and get whatever she wants,Ā she's absolutely right."
It's like they're crazy for each other in different ways. Judy's earnestness feeds Nick's desire for (her, I kid but also not) for validation, and of course he more than matches that regard but through subtle acts. It's basically words versus acts of service with them.
And that change from the novelization!!! āItās not worth dying for!ā āAgree to Disagreeā, like I seriously get the significance now. But basically him saying nothing, not even the world, is worth Judy dying, but he himself believes that Judy is worth dying for. Like wow, Judy you are so lucky. Judy is literally his world.
And that post-credit scene! Man, there is absolutely no way anyone can say with a straight face that Judy does not have (at least) a crush.
I canāt believe theyāve had two break-up scenes now, wow.
THAT LAST SCENE. They are absolute gremlins together, which is why they are absolutely perfect for each other!
All in all seriously, even the whole messaging is subtle but meaningful in that literally anyone can make a difference at any single moment. Ahhhh I just loved it.
