when i was 3 i visited my extended family in arizona and my aunt lori apparently yelled at me for something stupid apparently i was complaining about not being able to play my nintendo 64 but she yelled at me and i started crying and when my aunt lori complained to my mom about how i was “a big baby” my mom replied “lori, he is a baby” anyway 17 years later she broke into my dead uncles storage unit and stole a bunch of his shit and also tried to forge my dying grandpas signature on a really important legal document i hate her

Both come from the Latin "burgus", meaning castle or fortified town. A burglar being someone who bypassed the security of fortifications.

Meanwhile burger comes via Hamburg, the burg of Hamma.

So burgers are named after fortifications, and burglars are the ones who bypass them.
