Personally I hate AI because it uses slave labor, is killing the planet and is making people stupid, but that's just me. The soulless art aspect is just one little piece of my grander disdain.
wait how does AI use slave labor? Do you mean the human works that are stolen and not credited or compensated? Because technically under capitalism everything is exploited but there are varying degrees
Aside from the scraping, AI tech companies, including openAI/chatGPT, have outsourced training their models to countries in the global south, specifically Kenya in openAI's case. These workers are working in sweatshop conditions for less than 2 bucks USD per hour. I'm on mobile, but if you search 'openAI Kenya slave labor' and related keywords, you can find multiple articles about it.
Training AI takes a heavy toll on Kenyan workers, who say they earned $2 an hour to label and sift through gruesome content for American com
I think about this so goddamn often. Even the good uses are trained on slave labor.
Wambalo and other digital workers spent eight hours a day in front of a screen studying photos and videos, drawing boxes around objects and labeling them, teaching AI algorithms to recognize them. Human labelers tag cars and pedestrians to teach autonomous vehicles not to hit them. Humans circle abnormalities in CTs, MRIs and X-rays to teach AI to recognize diseases. Even as AI gets smarter, humans in the loop will always be needed because there will always be new devices and inventions that'll need labeling.
Humans in the loop are found not only in Kenya, but also in India, the Philippines and Venezuela. They're often countries with low wages but large populations — well educated, but unemployed.
The pay for humans in the loop is $1.50-2 an hour. "And that is gross, before tax," Wambalo said. Wambalo, Nathan Nkunzimana and Fasica Berhane Gebrekidan were employed by SAMA, an American outsourcing company that hired for Meta and OpenAI. SAMA, based in the California Bay Area, employed over 3,000 workers in Kenya. Documents reviewed by 60 Minutes show OpenAI agreed to pay SAMA $12.50 an hour per worker, much more than the $2 the workers actually got, though SAMA says what it paid is a fair wage for the region.
It's destroying the environment. It's taking advantage of people who're desperate. It's traumatizing them for dollars an hour--if they're lucky and they aren't denied their pay for no reason. I think about this a lot, that these people were made to look at awful and disgusting and illegal things for the sake of training these stupid AI.
"I looked at people being slaughtered," Wambalo said. "People engaging in sexual activity with animals. People abusing children physically, sexually. People committing suicide." Berhane Gebrekidan thought she'd been hired for a translation job, but she said what she ended up doing was reviewing content featuring dismembered bodies and drone attack victims.
[...]
SAMA says mental health counseling was provided by "fully-licensed professionals." Workers say it was woefully inadequate.
It's just absurd and disgusting and infuriating. Yes the good applications are worth humans working on. It's not a bad thing--if the people employed to do the work are compensated appropriately and cared for. But so many of the uses are just unnecessary.
It just. Sucks. And all they'd have to do to make it suck just a litte bit less would be to pay people appropriately, give them access to the counseling needs they have, treat them like human beings worthy of respect and care on a basic fucking level. It wouldn't resolve the environmental issues or the fact that people are thinking less and less for themselves in the name of getting all of their answers from gen AI but at least they could do one thing to make it a little less The Worst Thing Ever.
I feel like every day I learn a new reason why AI is terrible
I'm gonna go cry in the corner now
I will accent two and ONLY two reasons the bad batch respect Cody but no other regs
1. Cody valiantly risked himself to save them in a dramatic show of loyalty and trust
OR
2. They saw Cody body slam a droid and went “Yeah he’s cool we like him”
KICK THE CAN!
Let’s play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.
To kick the can, reblog it. I wanna see how long this can go on for.

hey I loved the crosshair fic x gn reader that you did! it was really soft and comforting 🥺 and I saw the requests open so i wanted to try ask for something haha
maybe an one shot when the batch clocks crosshair's feelings for fem reader? and annoy him until he does something about it and confess haha
you don't have to do it but in case you do you can obviously take whatever liberties you want, thank u!!! have a good day/night <3

The field was long and gold and the Marauder sat at its far edge, where Tech had insisted would make it more difficult to spot from the air. This meant a ten-minute walk through knee-high grass with your bag over your shoulder and the afternoon sun trying its best to make you regret the detour into town.
You didn't actually regret it, though. The light out there was the kind that made everything look warm, the seed heads catching it sideways, the distant tree line going amber at the edges, and when the Marauder came fully into view you slowed down without meaning to, because the sun was hitting the hull at an angle that made the old ship look almost beautiful, the scratched plating shifting copper-toned where it caught the light.
You had been on enough long hauls aboard her to know exactly how she smelled inside and exactly where the bunk support dug into your shoulder if you slept wrong and exactly which step on the boarding ramp rang hollow under your boot, third from the top, every time.
She was not beautiful. But out there in the late afternoon, with the grass moving around your shins, she looked it.
You hitched your bag up and crossed the last stretch of field before your boots hit the bottom of the ramp with a clank. You made it just a few steps from the top when voices drifted down from the hold.
"Come on," said Wrecker, coaxing, "It's obvious! Even Tech noticed."
"I notice everything," Tech corrected.
"There's nothing to notice," Crosshair said flatly. "Drop it."
You stopped on the ramp.

Helloski! I absolutely love your head cannon posts!you single handedly are getting me back into writing!!
I was wondering if you'd be willing to do kink head cannons for The Batch (And anyone else you'd like, it's so hard to choose between the commanders for me) particularly kind of what they're into as a top V. That they're into as a bottom ? (If you haven't already) Please and thank you! I leave you this lovely candle lite dinner in exchange
🌕🍷🕯️🍝
mmmmm i thank you kindly for it 😋
WE’RE GETTTING KINKY IN THE HOUSE… the ship… the barracks… i’m so bad at talking i’m sorry.
i LOVE that you asked about how they’d be as a top v. bottom because i honestly can’t imagine a ton of clones being tops all the time (even though that is the persistent male character prototype in today’s media…). i definitely think some clones fox would be control freaks but the bad batch prob aren’t. they’ve never not once in their lives followed the rules so lowkey anything goes with them. bunch of switches. all of them. they def have preferences but like. switches.
I saw Hoppers last night. Despite the rumors, the environmentalism themes were still blatant. They didn't turn to the camera and say "DESTROYING NATURE IS BAD MKAY" but the movie is still very environmentalist; it's more like Pom Poko (explicitly cited as inspiration for the film) than Ferngully.
The movie also has a very optimistic worldview and promotes restorative justice over punitive justice. Killing the mayor would not save the glades, because a new mayor would simply continue to build the freeway anyway. They had to make the mayor care, to see things from an animal's point of view. Heck, Mabel even outright states that everyone has good inside them.
And also, it shows us the banality of evil. Mayor Jerry isn't some cackling supervillain who actively hates animals. The sonic trees are awful, yes. But also, he's just Some Guy. He loves his mom, sings and dances by himself, eats pancakes, etc. He mostly cares about getting good PR.
Titus shows us what happens when extremism pretends to be progressive but is ultimately self-serving. He didn't care about the other animals. He waited for his mom to die, he even called her old and weak. He wanted insects to reign supreme over all other animals. His anger at the humans was righteous, but really, he only cared about himself.
The movie is primarily comedic, but also has sad moments and a very dark and intense climax. It didn't feel autobiographical to me. But then, We Bare Bears is like Daniel Chong's autobiography. Much as I like the movie, I still feel as though something was cut that would have made the movie even better.
“So please, I beg you— he is all that I have, and you have so many heroes and the world has so many more. Let him be soft, and let him be mine.”
Cats getting caught doing crimes
it takes quite a bit of social intelligence for a creature to understand:
I know what I am doing is wrong
I know there is an activity that looks similar that is not wrong
If I am quick I can plausibly pass one off as the other
these cats are displaying remarkable theory of mind skills by not only registering that the humans can perceive them but actively trying to manipulate that perception! that requires one to be aware that other individuals have complicated interior thoughts of their own, to know that those thoughts are not always based on truth, and to quickly decide on the best possible “lie” for the situation. this is why I despise animal intelligence tasks based on obedience— some of the most clever moments stem from intelligent disobedience.

Watching the clone wars as a military brat, especially as someone who’s been on a tiger cruise (take your kid to work day but it’s like a week long and on a navy ship) is surreal because it’s so accurate to military behavior.
Stupid nicknames usually related to something embarrassing or just the thing they’re most associated with.
“Alright men what’s the problem, I’m missing dinner.” -Anakin. Word for word quoting my uncle.
Random solidarity with the enemy. One pilot for some middle eastern country regularly flew by a a ship solely to ask for his (U.S.)college basketball team’s scores. And he usually got them.
“Everything is fine in the hanger sir”
The hanger: $8,000 of tax dollars in damages
Randomly dissing their commanding officers in front of them but it’s fine because they’re off duty.
“We have a strictly professional relationship.” They’re best friends and have literally forged each other’s signatures so their spouses can give them a surprise vacation.
Covering for each other so they can call their spouses. Even though everyone knows exactly what is going on.
The “totally secret” room of contraband.
Swapping name tags/armor to cover for someone because they can’t tell you apart in the uniform
