I think that Shen Yuan should eventually go into mommy autopilot where he’s spent so much time taking care of his kids disciples, that his eyes just glaze over with the automatic response. If someone’s upset, he pets their head -> hugs them -> kisses their forehead -> does deep breaths with them. If someone is giving him a gift he praises the gift -> praises them-> pets their head. So on and so forth. He originally only did this for his youngest students, but eventually the older students made it know they want the same things and how can he deny them? Shen Qingqiu is not an especially tall man, some of his students towering over him. This is all fine and dandy, accept for when he’s had a long day, his martial siblings accost him, and he fails to recognize them as his peers. So far he has accidentally patted Liu Qingge’s hair, called Yue Qingyuan a “very sweet boy”, and given Qi Qingqi a hug. No one has recovered. Especially not Binghe.
