PLEASE TALK ABOUT SAMAEL ❤️❤️
((He is such an interesting character, its too rare to see Samael as a single character))
Oooo ofc. I would love to talk about it.
There are lots of posts that Samael and Lucfier are one and the same entity, maybe it’s because of being correlated with Satan and being married to Lilith.
However, upon reading the texts in Jewish, Kaballah, Talmud, etc., I made Samael separate from Lucifer in Hazbin Hotel and have himself lean more to morally ambiguous (cause Viv can’t do morally ambiguous one). Archangel Samael is also one of the angels created by God, but is tasked with a very destructive duty: taking the souls away from humans, much like Azrael, which is also the Angel of Death, but that would be another post.
Samael has everyone confused of his own goal, especially how he has another role of ‘being the heaven’s ultimate weapon’ or ‘the accuser who accused humanity’; which in theory, he could be a good comparison to Satan (in title ofc.), the thing is, he gets used to his own job; he doesn’t question the weigh of good and evil but he puts every humans to their test - much like how Samael tests Abraham’s resolve to kill his son, or in a different text, he’s the one who wrestled Jacob. He didn’t rebel against Heaven and God because his duty remins a concern, but because he accepted that there is no such things as making everything as good as possible, and not everything lives with a single, inherent, and independent goodness. He is created to take the job in the world where everyone will fear and hate him, whether they admit it or not.
But, does Samael take Jesus’ soul? No, perhaps he accepts that he is the Son of God, and he lets him be.
My backstory is something like this (I added my version of Extermination to make it even interesting)
In summary of backstory cause I forgot Samael’s whole backstory whoops: After Lilith left Adam due to submission issues, Samael and Lilith fell in love, and unknowingly, Samael decided to plant the ‘vine’ onto the tree of knowledge to trick Adam. God, fearing that Samael and Lilith’s union will cause chaos on his creation, decided to castrate Samael and put him into detention, separating him from Lilith. Lilith wept, missing her favorite husband, and there comes Lucifer (borrowing from the Paradise Lost where he is the first to fall into Sheol, before scheming into the Garden of Eden). Although she didn’t want to lose him, having to wait for Samael for so long becomes much of a boredom and decided to fall in love with Lucifer. They both began scheming to trick both Adam and his second wife, Eve to eat the forbidden apple, which led to expulsion of both Adam and Eve to the wilderness and both Lucifer and Lilith sent down, never to mend with humanity again. After Samael was freed from his detention, he went back to the Garden of Eden to find Lilith, only to find the eternal paradise dull and crumbled. After one of the angels told him that Lilith is now taken by Lucifer, he felt heartbroken, vowing to himself to never fall in love with the human.
But you may never know that Samael foreshadowed everything, especially when he doesn’t understand why he is chosen to be the weapon of God, until he finally accepted the reality Earth has faced - there is only duality, either face them or succumb to sin.
‘Annihilators’ is an organization of angels created by the Archangel Samael as a necessary option. It is believed to be the cursor after Adam and Eve’s disobedience against God by giving them death for their Original Sin. They are tasked to take the souls of the mortals only on a given date and time, whether they commit a sin or not out of a necessity - dubbing it as ‘Grim Reapers’ due to how the organization functions. It is also famous for the cause of The Great Flood, Fall of Babylon, and the Western Roman Empire’s Fall. It is restricted for the status of the second triad - Powers and Dominion - but female angels later were also allowed, as long as the physiques were met in the criteria.
Despite being well-known for the grim duties, it also became a center of controversy with the rise of casualties amongst innocent humans, and dubbing it as ‘pro-massacre’ and an enabler of extinction (the best example is Archangel Samael’s enactment of mass extinction in Sodom and Gomorrah, despite the fact that the civilization committed various sins). This is also met with a mixture of praise and criticism, due to Samael’s actions being a stain to the virtue and belief of the Ideal Paradise, while others defend his actions as a ‘necessity for God’s unyielding wrath’. After Samael’s ‘supposed fall’ (and didn’t become Lucifer), the concept of Annihilators were later banned and prohibited the citizens of the Heavenly Paradise to make a discussion about it, believing it may cause some disruptions - although it is widely speculated that the ‘Annihilators’ still functions without Samael’s guidance, as Azrael is now in charge of it.
(Spoiler) The concept of ‘Purge’ piqued Adina’s interest as she had witnessed thousands of crimes and sins committed by humanity alone for millenia. Perhaps, Adina decides to take a collaboration with the first Angel of Death to eliminate the wicked souls in Sheol, in the name of ‘Mercy’ alone.
I want to add more, but I need to take a break to review huhu.
