for anyone who’s been following for Heartbeat (Fire on Fire) updates, here’s a little snippet something I wrote for the next bit:
“I’d bond with you right now.”
Louis’ smile grows wider until he has crinkles by his eyes.
“I would too.” He admits quietly. “But you deserve a proper romantic ask, and I want to give that to you first.”
“And I want to ask you proper too!” Harry says. “So we can’t until each of us has asked the other.”
Louis pulls Harry closer, and when their lips touch, the spark of electricity feels stronger than ever before.
“Wait,” Harry pulls back. “Can I just bring up one more thing that’s been on my mind?”
“Um, are you sure that I’m not putting too much on you?”
“What do you mean?” Louis’ brows furrow with confusion.
“Like, that I’m leaning on you too much. I don’t want you to feel like, exhausted with how much you have to um, be understanding and just, be there for me and stuff. Does that make sense?”
“It does make sense. But no, you’re not putting too much on me. I am your partner. We are doing life together. You are supposed to be able to lean on me.”
“Are you sure, though? Because I feel like you do all this for me, but I feel like you don’t ever need to lean on me.” There it is, the thing he’s been insecure about.
“Have you ever heard the saying that comparison is the thief of joy?” Louis softly tucks a curl behind Harry’s ear. “We are two different people, you can’t compare us in any facet - emotionally, physically, sexually - none of that. The unfortunate fact is that your past and the things that you’ve been through means that you need to be loved in a different way than me. And that is absolutely, one hundred percent okay. Also, I do lean on you. I lean on you for more than you realize. You love me in the ways that I need to be loved. You listen to my work problems, and you make my tea just the way I like it every single day, you give me massages without me even having to ask. You reassure me when I need it. You let me be super meticulous about the way that I need our space to be organized. You let me be the little spoon and make me feel safe being fucked without making it into something heteronormative. We lean on each other. Give and take. I’m not keeping tabs. I just love you, and you love me just the same.”
