Hey jsyk it’s 2018 and if you’re still drawing characters with big lips like THIS, even if they’re pale/not black, it’s fucking racist. Stop doing it.

No excuses. “It’s a stylistic choice!” It’s a RACIST stylistic choice.

“Idk how else to draw big lips!” That’s because you relied on racist caricatures and are a bad artist. Teach yourself. Learn. If you’re not willing to do that, then you are a bad, racist artist.

“But it’s part of the character design!” Yeah, and it’s racist. If it’s your OC, then change it. If it’s not your OC, make the right choice and draw them with normal looking bigger lips instead of this racist monstrosity.

And to show that any old artist can do it, let me show some of my animal crossing characters as humans. The first is the oldest and the last is the newest. Throughout my time I heavily picked up how to do lips based on Steven universe’s style of lips

It even goes as far as to how I draw myself. Not all characters of color have a noticeable lip, and not all white/pale skinned characters lack this feature either. I still struggle in some regards, as to how to color lips, but the BEST rule of thumb to follow whenever you draw is to LOOK UP REFERENCES. That’s how I was able to draw T-Bone the way that I did, as to me I saw him as an Indigenous person with Copper like hair. People like that do exist, so it’s ALWAYS important to look up a reference photo before you do anything.

You can draw lips like this, there no excuse for using racist aspects when drawing.

So let’s get to that!

Here we Have Forest Diamond, my main Gemsona. He controls plants and can move the Dirt and rocks of whatever planet they’re on, so long as it has those items. He creates gems through digesting dirt or certain plants to base the gems form off of and then plants them in the ground do they can grow. Shrub Pearl is Their Assistant and is a very skilled gardener.

Up next, we have Rubble/ Steel Diamond. As a part of the Second Batch, aka gems created by Forest, Ocean Dream, Cloudy, and Fire, she contains the strictness of Fire Diamond (Placeholder name btw as Prince is supposed to make that one), the eloquent nature of Cloudy Diamond and a little bit of the earthy touch from Forest. She’s an artist, as most of her gems are. She’s the only one with two pearls, as her court is primarily where most Pearls are made within the second batch. Her main ability is her ability to turn solid metal into liquid, which she uses to paint and make into clothes.

And last, but not least, is Carmeltazite. They are the only one who initially was kept away from the First and Second batch all the way until Era Three. They served as a substitute for Pink Diamond after her shattering, leading to her generally shyer true nature when not having to play a jester. Their court is filled with defects and those typically outcasted by the rest of homeworld, in a dimension all kept within their jester cap (Aka that Galaxy attached to their head like hair.

Ok, but like, can we go EVEN DEEPER on this?

Like, this mainly stems from toxic masculinity, correct? But it doesn’t stop there. It’s so toxic that not only do women have societal standards as to how they should act, but that it also effects other marginalized people as well! Let me explain:

People of color are affected by this in a few ways, mainly that many still fit the gender binary in some sort, but also that it leads to stereotypes about said groups of people (i.e. black people are seen as loud and that gets taken as annoying). These stereotypes end up forming phrases like “acting white” or “acting black” when it’s simply just expressing your personality traits for others to see.

Next comes the LGBTQ, mainly trans people and ESPECIALLY nonbinary people. It’s pretty obvious as to how it afflicts binary trans people, but it also forces nonbinary folk into a sense of binary as they’re either acting “too manly” or “too girly” even though they’re nonbinary. I’ve actually struggled with that type of stigma since I tend to like softer things and pastel colors, which gets seen as feminine and affects how I view my own hobbies and interests in accordance with my gender identity.

And at last comes the worst afflicted by it: Neurodivergent and Mentally Ill/ Disabled people. This was the main point that made me realize how bad this form of masculinity can actually be simply cause of one question: What’s one thing society teaches to everyone about their emotions that Most Neurodivergent people, especially autistic people like me, struggle with? That’s right: Emotional dishonesty. Society on any end of the gender spectrum teaches us as people that how we truly feel isn’t important to others, if at all, and so many of us put on a mask of our emotions and don’t ask questions, two things people like me struggle with on a daily basis dealing with Neurotypical society.

This may be me just looking way too deep into things, but it’s something I’ve noticed with emotions and how toxic society portrays many of them. It’s ok to be sad, or angry, or dissatisfied. You have every right to feel those things so long as you don’t hurt innocent people because of those feelings. It’s much better to let it all out through tears then to let it out through violence

Seen as defective due to Sapphire’s future vision being impacted by her cockeye and Ruby’s attachment issues.

Fusion between an Era 1 Mali Garnet and an Era 2 Rhodolite Garnet

The two dislike eachother, and fuse primarily out of power

They both have Pearls, though Mali’s Pearl is no longer present after escaping.

Mali Dresses more like a stereotypical Garnet (Like GGG), while Rhodolite dresses akin to Pyrope from the games.

I'm slowly beginning to realize that my mental health causes a lot of severing of me and certain apps at times. Yet again I left, but now I'm back because why the hell not? I've had a bit happen, such as getting to page 20 of Foodpocolypse, and now just finishing a legit crap ton of stuff.

I also took a decent break from working on things for about two weeks, and as of this week I get to work on the comic, my written story, and my digital art. *screeches as I managed to make a watermark for my art that I really like* Anyway, this is a little bit of a me drawing, but not in the way I usually go with making me a monster or creature! In this case, it's sort of a revamo of my persona. It has a few differences, like hair length and the details, but it's supposed to be that way. I've been really meaning to get myself a persona that is more tied down to the real me, but still somehow shows aspects of myself that I still have issues with, so in this case the horns and tail aren't fully attached to me, but still float around me and act like they're apart of me. I feel like this version of me would be a lot more creative, seeing from the stains on the pants, and probably wouldn't have to deal with as much art block. Speaking of which, I'm gonna go on a hiatus of posting for a bit.
