I’M FREAKING CRYING I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT WAS THE INSPIRATION
Guy who has only ever seen 2006 animated movie “Over the Hedge” watching a new natural phenomena develop:
did u know there’s a patron saint of clowns???
not just clowns, apparently, that's an incredible range of patronages.
Holy shit.
In the fourth grade, we had to pick an inventor, dress like the inventor, and explain our invention. I decided to pick something off the wall (instead of, like, a light bulb), so I ended up doing my little presentation as George Crum. I remember reading about his work as a chef, learning about his shortness with customers, and the interaction (possibly apocryphal, although Crum certainly invented the potato chip) with the diner who kept complaining about his home fries being too thick.
I literally made a presentation as this man, and used a few websites and a couple encyclopediae (yeah, I’m old) to source all the data. I certainly know more than most people do about George Crum.
The point of all this is that, until I came across this post on Tumblr, I had absolutely no idea he was black. I’ve known who Crum was for over twenty years and never knew his race, because no website or encyclopedia thought it was worth mentioning.
Erasure is a fucking disease.
Wait @aurric if you had to dress like him for the presentation, wouldn’t you have had to look up a picture reference? How would you not know he was black?
It was 1995. I found encyclopedia articles and some old websites that referenced him as a chef, but never as a Black or Native man.
I dressed up like a chef.
I lived 49 years before I discovered Alexander Dumas (author of the Three Musketeers, the Man in the Iron Mask, and the Count of Monte Cristo) was black.
His energy is unmatched

nothing compares to the calendar on this site. flat fuck friday. the halloween post that always shows up mid july. you see four anime girls and immediately know what day of the week it is. on the ides of march we all wake up and clown on some guy who got stabbed two thousand years ago. last week we celebrated down with cis day. I can’t wait for ever given and nov 5th anniversary memes. anyways have a lovely neil banging out the tunes day
I was talking about a quilt piece I’d made that has sort of a squished shark on it and I was like “this is for sure a candidate for flat fuck friday” and the people I was talking to gave me a WEIRD look and I had to be like... “Does? Twitter not do flat fuck friday? What about out of touch thursday? REALLY? How do you know what day it is? Is it wednesday my dudes?????”
these seem to be the most widely accepted weekly holidays <3
gotta love the halloween post showing up on my dash literally right before this one. and it is, in fact, mid july.
i didn’t know what “twinking” was in videogames until last night: its making a low level character with high level weapons and then entering pvp for easy wins.
anyway it lead me to a bloodborne gamefaq thread in which two guys screech at each other over being twinks and i thought i was going to die
happy pride

May 2021, Kageki, Ayaki Hikari’s “e to bun” translation - or - the one with all the Capulet Information
Okay here it is the Capulet version of Akachan’s e to bun column. Again blah, blah, this is a fun and casual translation (I also did this one like… particularly quickly and on 0 braincells this week so apologies for any typos that hopefully aren’t there!) also please don’t share it taking it as your own translation etc etc. Anyway please enjoy this new information on the Capulets! I’ll be sure to post the third and final edition next month whenever it is available to me. Also, later this month, I will be posting a translation of Hoshigumi’s Romeo and Juliet (2021) backstage talk from this same issue of Kageki!
The Situation in Verona, As I Reveal It - Ayaki Hikari
(title credited to: Iroha Reo)
Hello to all the readers of Kageki. It’s Ayaki, playing the role of Count Paris in “Romeo and Juliet” for the A Cast. This month, I would like to introduce everyone in the Capulet family and ask them the following questions:
(1) Name, (2) Family structure, (3) Is there someone they love? (4) Their favorite point.
I hope you enjoy comparing these answers with last month’s issue.

what I really like about all these vintage couple’s portraits is that there is a very certain romatic decorum kept up – certain themes and poses – which, while of course being the mainstream preferred view of couples repeated throughout many studios, are just… so nice to look at.
this staged affection, a mix of theatricality and intimacy, the couple holding still for a couple of moments and now immortalised in a very set sequence of embraces and kisses. there is a charm to it even when I can’t tell whether this was a genuine couple portait or just actors hired by the photographer.
the kiss on the bare shoulder (eyes perfectly averted), the cheek caress, the piano and the violin, the interrupted embrace, the woman tilted back as in a half-stopped dance…
I simply must torment you a bit with these, let us see some of my personal favourites! (part one due to the image limit)
let us start with the kiss on the cheek (eyes averted! oh the pose! these were taken between 1910-1940)
or the nearly opposite energy (how daring!) of the kiss or caress with direct eye contact (1910-1930)
and then the innocent – yet so flirty – classic of the park encounter! (1890-1920)
and then the famed kiss on the bare shoulder – what an idea, what a vibe, such intimacy! (1910-1930)
and oh, I am not done, look at this – the adoration of the woman! look at this expression, this pose, this decorum! (1910-1940)
and then some of my favourites from the more playful or direct category, enjoy (1910-1930):
and, at last (thank you for still being here and witnessing my recent fascination with vintage polish photography) my three absolute favourites outside of any particular categories (1910-1930)
just look at her. just look.
