i think the world doesnât know what it really means to live in a theocratic dictatorship. Let me tell you about our experiences living in the islamic regime of iran.
1. Your parents were born to muslim parents so theyâre automatically muslim. Youâre automatically a muslim too. You didnât choose your religion and you canât opt out of it or you will be executed.
2. The compulsory hijab law makes you a criminal if you choose not to wear hijab even tho you didnât choose to be a muslim and you donât consider yourself a muslim but the regime has forced you into that role whether you like it or not. And when you âbreak that lawâ, they can do with you as they please.
3. little girls as young as 7 yrs old are forced to wear hijab at school even tho the islam itself says the age is 9. and all the schools are gender segregated so imagine how they force you to get used to hijab even when youâre just surrounded by other girls. And all day long at school they tell you horrible stories about what will happen to you in hell if someone sees even a strand of your hair.
4. the regime modifies all the textbooks, story books, cartoons and movies to represent the ideal woman with full on hijab. The iranian media is ordered to photoshop every photo of a woman that may be showing a little skin. And if theyâre iranian, no hair is supposed to be seen or that will be photoshopped away. Women are mostly excluded from billboards and tv commercials.
5. imagine going to work or meeting up with a friend when suddenly the morality police kidnap you in broad daylight and force you into a van to take you to a station where they will treat you like a criminal and if you donât agree to get humiliated and do as they say, they will put you in prison. And in case of Mahsa Amini and so many more before her, they will beat you to death. My sister was barely 18 when she got kidnapped and they didnât let her call home and sheâd been so fucking scared and we had no idea where she was. Imagine all the psychological trauma.
6. If youâre in a car and not wearing hijab they will fine you and seize your car. So when u get into a taxi the driver will ask you to keep your hijab on otherwise theyâll get fined. And if you refuse theyâll ask you to get off the car.
7. And its not just about hijab. In Ramadan, they get even more vicious. If they catch you eating or even drinking water on the street they will give you lashes as punishment and even imprison you for breaking the law. If you work in a state-owned company itâs even worse. They will close the cafeteria and take away the water dispensers. All restaurants are banned from delivering food before iftar. Itâs a fucking mess. Everyone has to pretend theyâre fasting or theyâll be severely punished.
So if you see Islam has become for many iranians a symbol of oppression and torture and discrimination, thatâs why. The regime uses islam as a weapon to silence and punish anyone who opposes them. You can love islam all you want from the safety of your home in a free country and talk about how kind and benevolent the religion is, but in iran, itâs a whole different story.
Our economy is fucked. All govt officials are corrupt as fuck. Most websites are banned in iran. Even tumblr is banned. The world has cut the iranian ppl from many services. We donât have intl credit cards like visa card. Amazon doesnât do delivery to iran. We cant get netflix, spotify or even a gamepass subscription. we donât get any Apple services here. iran isnât listed as a country you could choose when signing up for a lot of services. and when we decide to leave iran and escape this hellhole, every country out there will make it sooo much harder for us to get a visa just bc we had the misfortune to be born in iran at the wrong time.
This is the story of iran for the past 44 years. Held hostage by a corrupt regime that uses religion to suppress and torture the people and being abandoned by the rest of the world bc our lives donât matter.
Please be our voice. Once they shut down the internet completely and silence our voice, they will start slaughtering us to stifle the protests just like they did in 2019. Please help us. We want this fucking regime gone.

Catelyn Stark (A Song of Ice and Fire / Game of Thrones) vs. Hera (Greek Mythology)
Catelyn Stark
Hera
Remaining time: 6 days 19 hours
Propaganda below the cut:
Catelyn Stark
In a universe full of men who are rapists, murderers, and sadists, the ASOIAF fandom treats Catelyn â a woman who wishes to protect her children and sometimes makes poor decisions when theyâre in danger â as if she is the root of all evil. She is blamed for all of the bad decisions of the male characters around her, even if she disagrees with those decisions.
First I feel that people are really unfair to her about the Jon situation. People judge her through a modern lens. She couldnât just not blame Jon divorce her husband and ride off into the sunset. Her choosing not to love Jon is the only agency she had. I say this as someone who LOVES Jon, the fact that Jon was motherless wasnât her problem. Ned created the situation it was his job to make sure both Jon and Cat felt at home within Winterfell.
Catâs arc explores motherhood in an interesting way. She has to balance loving Robb with Robb not saving SansaâŠand the rest of his mistakes. She left Winterfell and Theon sacked it, she believes her younger children are dead. She freed Jamie to get her girls back. She also is only a mother to her children she didnât fall into the warm everyoneâs mother trope. She has such a grounded arc and I truly hate it when people compare her to Rhaenys from House of the Dragon. No woman would want her husbandâs bastards inheriting over her granddaughters.
She's mean to Jon so she's a monster without empathy and a bad mother to all her kids; instead of a nuanced woman who lives in a patriarchal society and lashes out against her bastard husband's child because he is the only acceptable target in the situation. I am not saying that it was fair for Jon who was innocent, but, even if I understand why Ned lied about it, it was fucked up from Catelyn's husband in a feudal society to except Catelyn to raise a boy she believed to be the prove of his unfaithfulness without having complex feelings (that sometimes became imperfect actions) about it. Got made her a secondary character in Robb's story when actually in asoiaf she's the only pov through which we know Robb at all.
Despite being in many ways the embodiement of a typical high-born perfect feudal lady, Cat is way less passive than the average reader except her to be. She is highly competent, was raised as the firstborn and presumptive heir by her father until her much younger brother was born, so she received a political education that for example Cersei didn't, and this allow her to manage Winterfell for long period of time when Ned isn't here or being her son Robb most important advisor. Despite teaching Robb how to be cautious for the realm's sake, she is very bold and isn't scared to go against each member of House Lannister and personally challenge them. She is also a fairly typical gender-comforming high born lady, raised in a feudal society so she has some ideas and conceptions of the world that are not 100% aligned with a contemporary feminist woman, but through her story she learns to not let prejuduce blinds her- for example, we know she was critical of Arya's gender-not-comforming (which mother wouldn't be in asoiaf, being indoctrinate into femininity since she was a child and comvinced that her daughters woukd need to comform too in order to thrive?) but she learns to feel admiration and full respect for Brienne who is a woman who callenges gender norms in a similaw ways to Arya. Even while comforming mostly to how a lady should acts and speaks, Catelyn has often challenged the male characters ideas that women are meeks or politically incompetent or even more naturally forgiving, by being a full blown political player able to use tacticians but often motivated by rage and a desire for revenge. (Lady Stoneheart!) She is often accused of loving Bran more than her others children, and it is true that he is maybe her favourite because she thinks of him more often and more fondly, but every time she had to choose between Bran and another child of hers she picked the choice that made more sense for the survival of her family as a whole, or the North: like when she chose to follow Robb in battle to help him win and temporarily left Bran and Rickon at Winterfell, or when she choose to free the Kingslayer Jaime despite his admission of being responsable of Bran's fall, in exchange of the hope of having Arya and Sansa back. Her arc is the prove that exploring a female character's feeling around motherhood and her various relationship to multiple children can be genuinely interesting, but also that an adult female character who is a mother and a wife and a widow can perfectly be not ONLY that, but also and especially her own complex person. Go Cat!
Cat makes pretty much the same amount of bad decisions as every man in the series, has realistic flaws and understandable motivations behind this flaws, yet Iâm constantly seeing people call her stupid, grating, and annoying for making wrong, emotionally driven moves while everyone she ever loved is torn from her. Criticism of her treatment of Jon is valid, but plenty other characters whoâve done worse get off with way less hate
Cat is a very nuanced take on the mother archetype, and a good view into how Westerosi society informs the views of its characters, especially its women. Sheâs also kind of an impetuous badass. Just because she isnât as messy as Cersei sheâs still cool. You also got to love a character who comes back as a hate zombie
Cat gets most hate for how she treats Jon Snow, a bastard. But from a feudal perspective, Jon Snow is SUCH A MASSIVE THREAT to her children. He is named after Ned's beloved father figure, he is raised alongside the legitimate children, Ned likes him and gets defensive of him, all these things point to a possible future legitimisation. At which point, he's a legitimate threat to her children if he decides he wants to inherit. We the readers obviously know that Jon would never do anything to hurt his siblings, but Catelyn cannot take that chance. People still hate on her when she opposes her eldest son Robb choosing to legitimise Jon as a way to try and stop the throne from getting control of the north by using her daughters, but 1) of course she's going to be against her daughter's rightful inheritance being taken away from her because of circumstances outside of her own control (being a HOSTAGE) and 2) if the war is won, Robb can't UNDO the legitimising of Jon, which again makes him a massive threat to Robb if Jon decides he wants to inherit.
PLUS Catelyn has just seen Theon (who also lived alongside her children and was supposed to be one of Robb's closest friends) who her son trusted against her judgement betray them and (to her knowledge) KILL two of her sons he was raised alongside. She's proven right in the worst way, of course she's going to be leery of anything similar happening again.
Iâm so so sick of people thinking that Ned is a paragon of virtue and honor and all things good who has the misfortune of being married to a shrew. Ned Stark is someone who upholds the broken patriarchal system he lives in until it is no longer an option. He used his authority as Catelynâs lord husband to forbid her from ever asking about Jonâs mother. Yet fans expect Catelyn to be a paragon of virtue and mother Jon and not look out for her or her childrenâs interests. They also write tons of revenge fan fiction about Ned punishing Catelyn. Itâs also not Catelynâs fault that Jon went to the Night Watch. Ned who has his actual âparentâ should have planned a future for him but heâs a man so he didnât bother and thatâs Catelynâs fault somehow.
Hera:
the mythology is filled with rapists, unrepentant murderers and other incredibly disturbing content but hera is one the very few characters that is always seen as one dimensional even though she can easily be interpreted with much more depth. if hades and hapastus can get the "they could be that deep" treatment, than so is hera
THE problematic fave, walked so amy dunne could run đ hera has always been one of the figures in mythology than intrigued me the most and I am still waiting for a retelling of her as an anti hero that still incorporates her signature traits
everyone always characterizes her as a jealous bitch (usually in tandem with woobifying zeus). itâs literally not her fault that she was tricked and coerced into marrying a serial rapist who holds much more power than her.
like yes. from a modern day perspective, it is pretty misogynistic of hera to punish the women that zeus sleeps with (consensually or not. usually not!!). but âïž she is also stuck in a terrible marriage (smth smth goddess of marriage bound by her own domain) and is hurting those that she has power over because she canât hurt zeus. messy victims my beloved
So this is not a plea for money. This is something that surprised me, and chatting with people on discord, they were unaware of as well.
Discovered last year I couldnât look at my 2015 MacBook Air without it triggering nausea and migraines, and figured the screen died. Have been getting by on my phone, but concluded I really need a laptop again.
Saved up, realised I could afford a brand new MacBook Neo, and got one.
-And I couldnât spend more than five minutes looking at the screen without massive eye strain, nausea, vertigo, and if I pushed it, I-need-to-lie-down-in-a-dark-room-for-hours migraines.
Looking up MacBook and Eyestrain explained what is going on. The liquid retina displays that Apple currently has uses Pulse Width Modulation or PWM. In order to give the screens a deeper depth of colour and contrast, PWM flickers between several hundred to thousand times a second.
And there is currently no way to turn it off. There are settings and apps to reduce it, but there is no way to stop the screen from flickering. Checked Apple forums, called Apple Support, and the time I could look at the screen kept shrinking. Got the laptop Tuesday, returned it Friday, today is Sunday and Iâm still dealing with a vertigo migraine.
For MacBooks, it seems to vary on the computer model and the software it uses. In retrospect, the issue with my MacBook Air started after a major software update.
And itâs not just an Apple thing. Current Windows and Android screens do the same thing. Thereâs even a Reddit for people who are sensitive to PWM flickers to help find computers and screens that wonât trigger eyestrain and headaches.
So, yeah. This week has been a learning experience. But for those who are prone to headaches and migraines, this may be something to be aware of, cause I was not.
so basically, a big right-wing 78-year-old female politician in the UK, Ann Widdecombe, was brutally murdered in her own home 2 days ago
she was beaten to death by a âwhite maleâ who is still at large â clearly a politically motivated attack
yet, every left-wing person on social media is like: âmurder is terrible, but letâs not forget she was a cunt with terrible viewsâ
completely overlooking the fact that a male killed a woman with his bare hands â literally beat her to death, which is an incredibly personal and passionate way to kill someone â and thatâs about the most conservative and evil thing any human can do
itâs clear why he killed a right-wing woman, and not a right-wing male
also, itâs interesting how many people are willing to overlook a maleâs actions (murder) because apparently a womanâs opinions are worse
I disabled this feature and was actually surprised by how much faster my laptop became. My computer is only a couple of years old but this one feature was just sucking so much life out of it behind the scenes. I'd hate to see how much an older computer would be affected. AI features that we don't want are just the absolute worst. They don't make anything better. It was actively making my computer run slower and hotter.
Today in australia they started senate hearings on the bill the government hopes will make enough disabled people die or disappear to make us all less irritatingly expensive for them. We had two weeks to submit feedback on over 400 pages of complicated legal terms. They don't care what we have to say and they donât care that this will kill people and disenfranchise disabled people across the country.
There are 760,000 Australians on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the system that - if they feel like it and your personalised plan says you get to have it - provides funding for everything from personal hygiene care to support workers to therapies to assistive technology. It's already very hard for disabled people to get on the NDIS, regardless of your disability. It's near impossible to access most support and equipment without being on the NDIS. And the government has announced that they want that number to drop to 600,000 in four years. 160,000 of us cut off the Scheme - and countless more denied access. This will cause deaths. People will die and people will suffer because there is no safety net. The NDIS is the only option for most of us. Even private health insurance doesn't cover most of these things. Nobody will swoop in to save us.
The bill wants to give the (non disabled!) NDIS minister basically unlimited power to cut our funding. They're already planning what they'd do with that power. What rights they'll strip from us. What dignity and freedom they'll remove to make their budget look better.
The bill wants to force people to try every treatment out there before they're allowed to be on the NDIS. Including if the treatment is literally impossible to access. Thereâs a lot of us living in regional areas or out bush who can't just pop to the capital cities for specialists. This will especially hurt disabled First Nations people in regional and remote communities, who already experience limited access to healthcare. Oh, and it includes chemical restraint, too. The government has directly refused to exclude chemical restraint from the required process, calling it "trialling medication".
If you're australian and worried, the ABC did a good breakdown of the proposed changes.
I know australia stuff doesn't really pop up on the radar on this site, but I want everyone to know what's going on. What we're fighting for here. Your australian disabled friends might be NDIS participants fearing for their life, rights, and freedom. They might not be a participant and afraid these changes mean they never will have access. We deserve better. The government built a system with no backup plan, and now they want hundreds of thousands of disabled people to pay the price for their bad planning.
Sorry we're too expensive to have rights, I guess.
I saw a video that claimed âlesbian 101â is that âsandbagsââbreastsâruin an outfit. First of all, since when was lesbian 101 anything other than breasts are a gift from God herself? Second of all, can we please quit this trend of finding increasingly stupid ways of referring to breasts, a natural body part that 50% of the human population has, as something negative thatâs some sort of burden or hindrance separate from the body? Not only is it misogynistic, but itâs an incredibly unhealthy way of viewing your body.
This is an experiment to see if there really are as few of us as people think. You can also use this to freak out your followers who think youâre 25 or something. Yay!
Like Grace is beautiful we all know this but there is just Something about Lizzie like she is so stunning and elegant and is a strong woman who stands up for herself like that is HOTTT
