Hello, and welcome to the first annual K-pop Demon Hunters Winter Gift Exchange. This event is co-hosted by @wisps-writes-fic and @rori-is-writing.
Creeping into the cooler months we wanted to start promoting this exciting event before the holidays are upon us. To start, let’s lay out some basic info, rules, and our FAQ.
Is this event on other platforms?
We are not extending the event to platforms such as Twitter or Instagram at this time, but you are welcome to share your creation elsewhere. We will set up an AO3 collection before Santas start revealing themselves, but an AO3 account is not a requirement for participation.
Are any tropes or themes off limits?
We are a pro-ship, pro-kink event. Please keep in mind that one person’s ick might be another person’s yum and tag appropriately. And of course, be mindful of your giftee’s likes and dislikes.
Is there a minimum or maximum word count expected for fanfiction?
We suggest because this is a gift event trying to reach about a thousand words, minimum, unless your giftee has specifically requested a drabble-length gift. There is no max word count, so feel free to write something longer if you’re inspired.
Tumblr doesn’t allow NSFW art, so where is that posted?
AO3 has an option to post images. If your giftee doesn’t have an account, you can publish the image there and leave the work unlocked so they can view it as a guest. If you do not have an AO3, submit the image through an ask and your giftee can save it from there.
Does a commission count as a gift?
Our expectation when it comes to events like this is that our participants take the time to create the main gift themselves, though if you wish to commission something alongside your gift, you are absolutely welcome to tie it into your reveal.
10/1 - Sign-ups open.
10/14 - Sign-ups close.
10/21 - Assignments go out. Participants may begin messaging their matches through Anon asks ONLY. The survey will only give us the bare bones of what your giftee wants. Go get to know them! Find a few suggested questions if you’re drawing a blank here.
12/1 - A mod will reach out to you to ensure you are on track for gift delivery. There is no shame in bowing out, just make sure communication is made so we can grab a pinch-hitter.
12/21 - 12/25 - Gifts must be posted within this timeframe. If you have an AO3 account, feel free to submit your fic or art to our 2025 collection!
First and foremost, we want to establish this will not accept any gifts created using AI. All submissions must be NEW works made by our participants with your giftee’s preference in mind.
Know up front that this is an event open to all ages. If you are old enough to have a Tumblr, we expect you are old enough to understand internet etiquette and respect our other participants. That said, if you are uncomfortable writing for a minor, there is a question on the sign up to communicate that. As a common practice of internet safety we will NOT require participants to admit their age, but we will scan bios and pinned posts for those who have their age listed.
We will also have you tell us how you feel about giving and receiving NSFW gifts in the sign up. This is a “your kink is not my kink and that’s okay” (YKINMKATO) event, so please tag appropriately and refrain from making any negative statements about others.
When you receive your assignment, please send your giftee an Anon ask ASAP so we can check you off our list. If your ask is not sent on time and we can’t reach you through messages for an explanation, you will be removed from the exchange this year. On the flip side of that, make sure you have switched the Anon option in your settings so your Santa can maintain their secret identity. This is a requirement for participation in the event.
Event sign ups will open October 1st and close October 14th. Barring unforseen delays, matches should be made and distributed starting October 21st.
