Jason and Slade as *that* PDA couple so wrapped up in each other, always touching. Slade wanting it to be absolutely 100% clear that Jason is *taken*, and Jason thriving on being wanted
Danny Phantom meets The Flash’s Rogues Gallery.
Danny gets yeeted through a ghost zone portal and appears in a bank that’s actively getting robbed by Captain Cold and Mirror Master. The two are shocked that this kid just appeared out of nowhere and start barraging Danny with questions very casually while they actively break through the main bank vault and as Captain Cold is handing Mirror Master to put the stolen money into the mirror dimension. All the while Danny is just following them and chatting to them like absolutely nothing wrong is happening.

Short DP X DC Prompts #22
Tim Drake knowing Danny because he’s the cute barista at his favorite coffee shop and will actually make his coffee order rather than look at him in horror and refuse.
Danny watches this guy come in every morning and several evenings. (Sometimes, Danny is on the clock and other times he’s getting his own “who needs sleep when I can mainline caffeine” fix. One day, he’s on the machine when Tim staggers in even more bedraggled and miserable than normal. He found out the dude’s adoptive dad is missing and not only are there maps from the same area with print dates hundreds of years apart, but there’s also an extremely large stack of documents for his family business next to him.
“Gonna be a late night?” Danny asks innocently. Timmy nods with an abandoned and betrayed look on his face.
“Not like I’m needed at home. The exalted eldest has returned home triumphantly and proceeded to give all of the responsibilities Dad expected me to do to my baby brother. Which should be a relief, but now I don’t know what to do with myself.”
Danny listened as he fixed Tim’s usual.
He handed over a cup, declaring it on the house, before popping his head in the back. After a few, he sat at Tim’s table with a similar cup, dropping his apron in the chair next to him. “I’m off the clock and I made you coffee the way I like it. So explain the maps to me and I’ll see if I can help in any way.”
Timmy took a sip of his coffee, eyebrows raising as he realized it was even stronger than he typically had. Maybe the guy had a death wish, but Timmy was still prepared to propose on the spot for access to the recipe.
Fifteen minutes later Danny realises he just gave a free coffee to Timothy Drake-Wayne, previously heir to two of the biggest companies on the continent of North America and still CEO of one of them
Tim has been looking forward to the look on his face at this revelation more than he’s been able to look forward to anything since Bruce disappeared
Danny does not disappoint
He also demands Tim pay his nonexistent student loans and is shocked when Tim immediately agrees and offers to also buy him his apartment if Danny’s harebrained schemes pan out
Danny is then forced to admit he does not in fact have student loans, nor a degree, but he does have “a strong family tradition of dimension breaking”, which Tim appreciates
@britcision why would you hide this in the tags
Jokes on y'all if y'all think Danny not telling Tim his address is gonna stop Tim from buying him a whole ass apartment building(or house) in thanks, lmao. He is THE Bat Stalker. He will find a way– even if he has to stalk Danny home himself, LOL.
Dick is waiting for a bus when he notices the guy next to him staring intently at the glass wall of the stop.
"Uh...how many teeth do humans have again?" The guy mumbles.
"Thirty-two," Dick says helpfully.
The guy shifts his jaw, there's a cracking sound, he spits something into his hand, and he finally turns to face Dick.
"Thanks," the guy smiles, Lazarus water smearing down his chin like blood as his eyes glow the same color.
Dick didn't really know how to feel about bus stop guy. Glad he(they? Can human genders be assigned to... He was gonna stop that thought track.) Was trying to fit in. It was just odd, that they were so nonchalant about their non human status. He's met a LOT of aliens, and other worldly beings. He's never met one that would just. Casually out themself to a random person.
Add to that the shape shifting, and Lazarus green eyes and blood? Yeah, Dick was a little spooked. It was just unsettling. Deeply, deeply unsettling. In a way he couldn't quite put his finger on. This coming from him! The guy who helped Kori settle onto Earth! Who used to live with BB and Raven!
Plus, he was trying to write up a report for B about it. Just in case. But, how is he meant to explain the sheer confusion of the moment? The total ease with which they outed themself. The quick and easy shift of their jaw. The total lack of fucks given. The guy snapped out several teeth. Then just coughed them out! Like nothing!
Consider, he does this in front of more Bats too. "How many fingers am I supposed to have?" "Shit, I grew a third lung again" ect.
The next day, he’s mugged. But he doesn’t look scared about it. He’s more indifferent, and is staring down the dude attempting to rob him. The mugger is unsettled. That’s when it dawns on him: he currently has five eyes. He glances at the robber. He catches three eyes as they come out of his face, and the holes close up. The mugger runs away. Jason, who was watching from the roof, ready to break it up, is horrified and leaves without saying a word.
He’s buying groceries in the store later that day, and accidentally shoulder bumps a blonde girl. He apologized, and then looked at what she was holding: a bottle of rubbing alcohol.
“What is that beverage? It smells good.” He asks.
“I’m not telling you because you’re going to try and drink it and I don’t want that on my conscience.” Steph says.
“No I’m not.” He lied.
“Nuh uh. I don’t know if your alien biology can take it, or whatever.” Steph is staring past his face, at something on his shoulder.
He turned and knocked heads with a second head that was on his shoulder. He casually decapitates the head and tucks it under his arm. “I’m not an alien.”
“Uhuh. Just know that the Justice League can help you blend in and become more human like, if you want.” Steph leaves.
Danny puts the severed head in his shopping cart like it was a bag of produce. Five people screamed, an old lady had a heart attack, and several kids cried. Danny didn’t know what their issues were.
The next day, he’s walking along the street looking at a magazine. The English looked like scribbles to him. Maybe he should spend more time on Earth than once in a millennia. He was just lucky he remembered how to speak it fluently.
As he’s walking, the building beside him explodes. When his vision clears, a human paramedic is putting an oxygen mask over his face and trying to listen to his breathing. He ripped the oxygen mask off his face and gags.
“Oxygen is harmful… to my species.” He gags, trying to catch his breath.
“That would make sense if he was an alien.” The paramedic says to another paramedic, “Considering I was hearing breathing from three lungs.”
“Shit, are humans only supposed to have one?” He asks.
“Um, we actually have two.” The paramedic responds.
He gags as he throws up the third lung. He tucks it into his pocket as the paramedic throws up. He waved as he leaves.
A few days later, he accidentally walks in the middle of a gang fight. He’s shot several times point blank, but barely notices. Duke tackles him to the ground, shaking sticky green blood off his hands with a grimace.
“Are you okay?” Duke asks.
“Fine, why do you ask?” Danny tilts his head as Duke held his hand over a bleeding wound on Danny’s stomach.
“You’re bleeding. A lot.” Duke responded. “Do you—uh, want to do something about that?”
“Is it supposed to hurt?” He asked as he turned intangible. The bullets fell out of his body and the wounds instantly began to close.
“Normally yes, but I’m going to guess human weapons don’t hurt you.” Duke glanced at the old wounds. “What planet are you from?”
“Illinois.” Danny grinned.
Duke bluescreened as he tried to think about why a planet would be named after a state.
“I’m not an alien.” Danny said helpfully.
Duke wasn’t convinced.
Lucius Fox is in the drive thru for some coffee, and like. He's just. He's had a time, okay?
He's stuck on some equations in regard to the amount of torsion a joint would go through if it's half in his dimension and half in another, and it's driving him up a wall.
He's been up for like forty-eight hours, he's tired, he's thirsty, he just wants a coffee, and also how to solve this dilemma.
He doesn't expect the barista in the drive-thru he's ranting about the engineering issues to actually provide decent feedback, and give him a few alternatives.
So he rushes to the pick-up window, not even caring to order, to look at this godsend of a barista.
It's a scrawny kid with black hair and blue eyes, looking startled. Boy can't be more than eighteen.
He asks what college the kid is going to, or plans to go to.
To his absolute horror, the kid-Danny, according to the nametag-says he can't afford college. That he'd had a stint in highschool where he just hadn't been able to focus, and his parents had spent every penny they had on their own inventions.
So that was why he was a barista; because if he worked there for four years, they would offer tuition assistance.
Which.
No. No no no no no.
Lucius pulls around to march into the store, Bruce Motherfucking Wayne already blearily on his phone.
He is getting this kid, and any friend of his, into college.
If Bruce won't foot the bill, he will.
When the time comes to get medically screened to do some internship with the Justice League or whatever Danny gets fast tracked for he just figures whatever they find they find. So his resting heart rate is in the low 30's, his body temp is like 50°, and they can't quite figure out where his heart is with the stethoscope but they can hear a faint humming.
Lucius thinks 'oh this kid is a meta' and moves on, but Tim is convinced he's some super complex android his parents built and never told him he was a robot.
So now every time Tim and Danny interact he finds an excuse to have super strong neodymium magnets, emp's, or a faraday cage on hand just to prove himself right. Danny grew up with the Fenton's and finds this to be relatively normal inventor behavior, but Lucius has now made meta discrimination and workplace harassment training mandatory for ALL higher level admins and staff.
Danny finds out about this theory and bides his time. Then, when he and Tim are alone and out of view of a camera, he peels back a portion of his forearm skin to scratch at a piece of metal arm that he'd stashed away in there for purely that reason.
He knows that Tim is on day 3 of no sleep because he has been muttering under his breath about coffee thieves, and 'not even hallucinating yet, I'm fine'. He pretends to notice Tim and startle, then leans forward and whispers 'nobody will ever believe you', before going back to his work mere seconds before his boss Lucius walks through the door.
Tim is now freaking out because no, nobody WILL believe him. But he has proof!! He really did see it!! He tries to tell everyone about it, but they all think he's hallucinating again from lack of sleep.
After the medical examination Danny was a bit more frank with Lucius than before. He knew his vitals were weird he just wanted to make sure that he wasn't disqualified for health reasons from anything. He's perfectly healthy, after all, can't kill the dead!
Lucius, at the end of a meeting regarding Danny's ability to troubleshoot the other side of multidimensional mechanical issues "on site" as it were, begins to apologise for Tim's behaviour and explain why.
Danny interrupts him
"Oh I know. I'm fucking with him."
Oh, I absolutely love this
When Tim finally gets up the gumption to confront Danny about it all. Danny will ask one simple question "Tim if I really was an android created by my parents with metal limbs right under my skin, why would the metal itch?
No no you don't understand! I want to watch this show/movie, read this book, listen to this podcast, etc.! But I must be in the right mindset and the exact head space to begin, or I just can't!

update:
listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded psychopath happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.
OP you're not leaving this in the tags, surely
Anyone else feel like they love a fandom more than they love a show/movie/etc. ? Teen Wolf, for example, loved the show growing up and then discovered Tumblr and AO3 side of the TW and loved the connon on fics more than the show itself 🤣 I'm a huge fan of Stiles/Derek, Stiles/Peter, and Peter/Chris, Stiles/Peter/Chris. Used to love Scott in the show but enjoy reading bad-friend/alpha-scott better. I stopped watching the show after Derek left, so at the point, Peter was more villain than anything but in fics? Favorite character. Love the trope of Good-Peter, Peter deserves nice things, hell I even love the trope of murder husband's Peter and Stiles. Never cared for Chris in the show until I started reading fics about him and Peter. Didn't really care for Malia but gimme Dad Peter and I'll read that shit everytime. Hated Allison in the show but Chris mourning his daughter and Stiles saving the day by getting her back all the while Peter holds them all together as pack alpha? YESSS.
When the movie came out obviously did not like it but the fix it fics that followed? I'll read Stiles saving his husband and son all day everyday.
However, it is important to note that I love all the actors and actresses - they are all amazing. The show was beautiful and even the movie (if it had better material anyways and obviously Derek didn't die).
But the fanfics in the Teen Wolf fandom are top-tier. I will smile, I will laugh, I will throw my phone across the room, and I will cry. It also helps that Tyler Hoechlin supports Sterek fanfics which makes it so much better. And the friendship between Ian and Tyler? Ian ans Jr? I love them.
Okay, that ends my rant for the day ✌🏻 thanks for coming to my Ted talk. I'll see yall during my next batch of pain meds that make me emotional 🤣
one of my favorite feelings is starting a new show and having that: ….are they…having gay… sexual tension?? And then logging onto tumblr dot com and seeing gifsets that show several thousand other people also agree that it was, indeed, gay sexual tension
So, in John Constantine's backstory he accidentally sends a kid to hell.
Which I think is a big part of his backstory, but we'll get back to it.
So, Danny got crowned king of the ghost zone which is a lot of work.
thankfully there are other beings (Hades, Hel, Lucifer, Anubis, over assorted angels, and so on) who rule their own little sections of the afterlife to rule while still answering to the ghost king.
Made everything a lot easier for him, but as king he was expected to inspect those sections at least once.
Which was fine, he could spend a day or two checking things out.
And this is where the kid Connie sent to hell comes in.
During his visit through hell, he notices an innocent soul that wasn't supposed to be there.
The soul had died a long time ago, hell wasn't really made for the living, but they were still trapped.
He of course takes them with him when he leaves.
The kid asks if he could help them tell Constantine that they're out of hell since he was looking for ways to save them. (They know since demons are loudmouths and the demons wanted to use the fact, that no matter how hard John tried he would never be able to rescue them, to hurt the kid.)
Danny agrees, because how hard could finding a sad British trench coat magic man be?
Cue hero's from around the multiverse waking up, after taking a hit, to a white haired and green-eyed eldritch horror asking them "Do you know John Constantine?"
Turns out finding a sad British trench coat magic man was incredibly hard, who knew?
And even when they did find a John Constantine the kid said it wasn't their John Constantine, how the kid could tell Danny had no clue.

Jazz has gotten far better in aim and weaponry over the years. She never expected to get into gun collecting but here she is, opening a gun store in the heart of Gotham. If you ask politely, she might just let you peruse her special collection in the back. It’s chalk full of Fenton weaponry and her own custom builds. It’s stuff that an ATF auditor would take one look at and shut down her entire store without a second thought. Lucky for Jazz, the local rogues gallery has long since scared the ATF from stepping foot in Gotham.
Thanks to Danny’s connections in the Zone as well as to Clockwork, Jazz quickly becomes known as a purveyor of not only modern firearms but also antique firearms.
Jazz swiftly becomes very popular in the historically accurate LARPing communities. She even has period accurate ammo.
Not only that but thanks to her Fenton genes she is a pro at customization, and the creation of specialized non-lethal ammo. Her Fenton Foamer bullets are particularly popular.
Jazz still puts her psychoanalyzing to good use, and refuses to sell to those who don’t pass her vibe check or her gun safety course.
cannot believe aegon cupped aemond’s face like that and people did not want to see how homoerotic that was
I find the amount of shipping discourse in the hotd fandom so funny. I laughed especially hard at the people accusing ships of being problematic because. This is House of the Dragon. The dragons and backstabbing show. My brother in incest, every single ship is problematic, every character is a piece of shit to various degrees, just loosen up and have fun with the sexy war criminals.
I was watching a ghost hunter show where the ‘ghost’ could only use the machine to say pre-recorded words. And I had an idea. We know that technology can’t always work with ectoplasm. So what if ghost speak couldn’t be heard over the phone? And to call for help, the Amity Parkers had to get creative to get ahold of the Justice League when the GIW declares all out war on all the ghosts and liminal in town.
“Hello, you have reached the Justice League emergency hotline. What is the nature of your emergency?”
“Hello, hello. Emergency, hello. Justice League.” A distorted male voice answered back.
“Yes, I can hear you. Can you hear me? what is the nature of your emergency?” Green Lantern asked again.
“I can hear you, emergency. Hello Justice League. Hello emergency.”
“Do you need help? Can you hear me?”
“Help. Help. Can you hear me? Help.” The voice distorted again to something like static.
“Prank calls aren’t funny kid. This is an emergency line.” With an exasperated sigh, Green Lantern hung up.
“What was that about?”
“It’s just a prank call. Some kid using a voice mod thing.”
“Really? That’s annoying.”
“I know. But it’s not that unusual. Kids don’t have anything better to do during the summer.”
“I guess. What are you doing on hotline duty? You’re not scheduled for refresher training for another few months, right?”
“Food fight in the cafeteria. Batman added everyone involved to additional monitor or dispatch duty twice a week for the next month.”
“Yikes. Hate to be you. Who else got caught?”
“Flash, Plasticman, Vigilante, and Shining Knight.”
Zatanna raised an eyebrow. “Can’t imagine Sir Justin getting involved in a food fight.”
Hal shrugged with a good-humored smirk, “Vig took a salad bowl to the head, Sir Justin jumped in to cover his retreat. Right in time for Bats to break up the fun.”
Zatanna giggled, “Poor Sir Justin.”
“Poor Sir Justin?” Hal Jorden gasped dramatically, “What about me? I was just an innocent bystander.”
“I’m sure you were.”
“What are you doing here anyway?”
“Unlike you. I’m just here for one shift for refresher dispatch training.”
“Good for you. Well, have at it. The active-duty roster is on the big screen with who's suited up and available.”
Zatanna looked up at the large monitor with pinging dots in various locations around the world. “Alright. A bit better than the old system of scrolling for available heroes and asking where they are.”
“Yeah, Cyborg linked everyone’s com into the system so we can tell who is where, when their com is active.”
“Sounds good. Alright, Let’s do this.” Zatanna put headset on and clicked ‘available operator’ on the screen. Immediately her phone rang. “Hello, this is the Justice League Emergency Hotline. What is the nature of your emergency?”
“Emergency. Hello, Justice League. Emergency.” A female voice came through her headset. The connection was very poor. Interference and static came through.
“Can you hear me? This is the Justice League emergency Hotline. Do you need help?” Zatanna looked over at Hal. He was fiddling with his headset cord. He looked up at her and she gestured her head to the screen. It was the same number as his prank call.
“Hear me? Help. Justice League. Emergency Help.” The feminine voice sounded vaguely familiar. Zatanna ignored it to confront the prankster.
“Kid, this isn’t a joke. This is a serious line for actual emergencies. You can’t keep calling. I’m going to hang up now. Please don’t call back.”
“Isn’t a Joke. This isn’t a Joke. Please don’t. Hang up now. Actual Emergencies. Keep calling. Hotline. Justice League. Help. For actual emergencies.” The static under the female voice sharpened. Zatanna paused. Her finger was just hovering over the button to end the call when something stopped her. The tone of voice was sharp. Irritated. Also, strangely familiar. After a second it dawned on her. Hal was still looking at her, so she waved him over to listen into the call. Once he was listening with his own muted headset, she asked “Are you…? Are you repeating what I’m saying?”
“Repeating. Help. Isn’t a Joke. What I’m saying. Emergency. Help. Hello. Help. Emergency.”
Zatanna finally recognized the voice. “Is that my voice? Are you repeating with my voice?”
“Repeating. Voice. You. Emergency. Help. Isn’t a Joke. Help. Justice League. Don’t. Hang Up.”
“You’re using my voice to talk back to me? My words. And…You can only repeat what you hear… is that right?” Zatanna shared a glance with a horrified Hal. Him, just realizing he had hung up on an actual emergency. Not a kid playing a joke.
Zatanna’s own voice echoed staticky in her ear. “Right. Right. Can repeat. Only. Talk back. Using voice. Help. Emergency help.”
“Are you in danger?” She looked over at Hal who was typing on his own computer to trace the call origin. He looked back at her and shook his head. Weirdly, they can’t find where the signal is coming from.
“Danger. Emergency. Help Justice League. Help. In danger”
“I understand. I’m going to ask you where you are. Do you understand?” Zatanna was going to have to narrow this down. She pulled up a world map onto her screen.
“Understand. Help. Emergency.” The static in the voice softened slightly. Like relief.
“OK, we need to know where you are. What continent are you on? Asia? Africa? Australia? Europe? North America? South America?”
“North America. Help. Emergency.”
Zatanna clicked on the screen to enlarge the North American Continent. “OK, you’re in North America. Are you in Canada or America?”
“America. Help.”
Another click of the mouse to focus on the USA. “OK are you in the North, Northeast, Southeast, West, Southwest, or Midwest?”
“Midwest. Midwest. Help emergency. Help. America. Midwest.”
“OK I’m going to ask your state now. Do you know it?” Zatanna clicked on the Midwest region of the map to enlarge it more. Hal was standing up now. Anticipation making his body glow faintly green. He was texting something on his phone, but Zatanna ignored it to focus on her own echoing voice on the other end of the line.
“Know it. know it.” Her voice repeated back, “Ask.”
“Are you in North Dakota? Are you in Minnesota? Are you in South Dakota? Are you in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan-“
The voice interrupted her. “Illinois. Illinois, Midwest America, Illinois. Help. Emergency. Justice League Help.”
“Do you know where in Illinois you are?”
“Yes, yes. Where Illinois. Emergency. Ask.”
Zatanna enlarged the map of the state infront of her. The closest hero was in Detroit Michigan and they didn’t’ have any abilities to help them get to Illinois quickly. She gestured to Hal to look at the screen. He nodded his understanding. “Do you know where in the state you are? what region or what county?
“County. Know. County.”
“OK I’m going to name a few counties. Tell me yes or no if you are there, okay?”
“Yes, yes. Tell me.”
Zatanna listed off the counties on the map. Her tongue slightly tangling over the midwestern words. “OK, Joe Durres, Steffensen, Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Lake, Cook, Dupage, Kane, Dekalb, Ogle, Carroll, Whiteside, Lee-“
The voice interrupted again. “ Lake. County.”
“OK you’re in Lake County. is that right?” Zatanna clicked over the county and enlarged the map.
“Right. Right, help. Emergency. In Lake County.”
“OK I’m going to name off some cities in Lake County. Are you in a city? yes or no”
“City no. name cities. Yes.”
Zatanna paused for a second. “Do you mean you are not in a city, but you can name the closest one to you? yes or no?”
“Yes. Name. Closet one. Name. Closest. City. Emergency.”
“Okay. I understand. Are you in Gurney? are you in Libertyville, Grayslake, round lake, or round lake beach? Are you in Lake Forest, Zion, Vernon Hills, Highland Park, or north Chicago-“
The voice cut her off again. “Park.”
“Are you in Highland Park?”
“No. Park. In Park. Park. Park. Park. Emergency. In Park.” The tone of the voice did’t change but the words came faster, almost overlapping over themselves.
“OK calm down. Let me understand. Are you in a park or in a place called park?”
“In a place called Park. Help emergency. In place called park.”
Zatanna scanned the list of Illinois cities called ‘Park’ in the county. “OK are you in Round Lake Park or Beach Park, Deerfield Park, Park City, or Deer Park.”
“No. Place called Park. No city. place called park.”
“So you’re in a place called Park but it’s not a city is that right?”
“ Right. Place call park. Emergency. not city. Help.”
“OK, let's go down the list. Brook Park, Mill Park, Park Barrington, River Park, Park Township, VernonPark Hills, West Keegan Park, West Deerfield Park, Amity Park, Wheeling Park-“
“Amity. Amity Park. Emergency in Amity Park. Emergency in Amity Park. emergency help help emergency.”
“OK you're an Amity Park. Is that right?”
“Right. Right. In Amity Park”
Zatanna nodded to Hal who was still texting on his phone. He nodded back to her.
“OK, I know where you are now. Now we need to know what kind of emergency is it a natural disaster? is it a villain? is it an alien?”
“Villain. Emergency. villain villain villain.” The words came fast. Static was almost overwhelming.
“OK, calm down. I'm right here. Does the villain have powers or not.”
“Villian have. No. Powers. I'm here. Powers. Help. Natural- powers. Help. I'm. kind of. Natural. Help. Powers. We. Need help. OK?”
Zatanna paused. The sentences didn’t make sense. The villain did not have powers? But the caller said “I’m. Kind of. Natural.” She shared a look to Hal. Hal typed on his computer and a message appeared on her screen.
“I txted Flash. He can be there, but he needs to know what kind of situation he’s running into.” Zatanna read the message and nodded.
“OK. You need to give me more information. There are villains but they don’t have powers? Can you tell me what kind of natural powers you mean? Are they metagene powers? Are they magic? Are there weapons?”
“Magic. Weapons. Powers magic. I. powers. magic. Help. Can you help. Me?”
Zatanna felt a rush of fear. Magic powers. ‘Villains no powers. Weapons’ must mean that the villains don’t have any powers, but they have weapons that can affect the magic user who is calling. She looked over at Hal. He nodded. “Okay. I have magic too. I am going to Amity Park to help you. Can you tell me how many villains there are? Are there more than five or less than five?
“More than five. Villains. I have magic too. Villains. Weapons. more than we. I am going too. yes. Yes going. Help.”
So, the caller definitely needed magic backup. Zatanna gestured to Hal who began to send an all-notice message to any Magic using League hero. “Are the villains after your powers? is that right? the villains are attacking you for your powers?”
“Right. Right villains attacking for powers. Help emergency. More than me. Powers. Villains attacking. We need help. Amity park. Needs help.”
Zatanna froze. ‘We need help.’ More than me…powers. We need help. Oh god. “Is there more than one of you with magic? There’s a group of you with powers that the villains are attacking?” Zatanna asked. A group of magic users fighting villains? Maybe sending more magic users isn’t the best idea. They might need some heavy hitters for this.
“Group. with powers. Magic. Amity Park. Magic. Villains attacking. Disaster. Emergency help. Villains have. More than one of you. Of you. We. villains have. More than one. Of We.”
It took Zatanna only a second. By now she was standing up out of her chair. “Do The villains have hostages? With magic powers? How many?”
Hal had linked in the call with multiple coms. On the large monitor Zatanna could see multiple heroes dots shift slightly. All in the direction of Illinois. She was grateful to see Wonder Woman, Flash, and Captain Marvel all headed in that direction. “We’ve got hero’s coming your way. They will be there soon to help you and rescue the hostages.”
“Many hostages. Many magic in Amity Park. Weapons. Villains have. Weapons. We have. Magic. Villains have Hostages. Villains have. Soon. Powers. We need help. Heroes coming. Justice league. Help. Not villains. We not. Villains. Help we.”
Zatanna felt sick as she understood that message. ‘The villains have hostages and weapons. The caller and the others have powers. But then… villains have…soon…powers. Did that mean that the villains were taking powers away from whoever was calling? She paused at that last sentence. “You’re not the villains. what do you mean by that?
“We. Not. the Villains. Villains have hostages. Villains have weapons. Isn’t a joke. Isn’t. Isn’t Right. We. Not Villains. We Natural. We not weapons. We not villains. Help. Rescue hostages. Rescue. Me. Help Me. Help we have Powers. Help.”
“You’re not the villains, I know. You say you are natural. Do you mean that when the heroes get there, they might think you are the villains and get confused?” Zatanna knew that multiple heroes were silently listening to the call.
“We not the villains. Heroes might think. Powers. Are the. Weapons. We Amity Park. We need help. Justice league get here. Rescue Hostages.”
Hal messaged her again on her screen. Zatanna read off the message.
“We’ve alerted the Illinois National Guard as well. They’ll be there soon to help.”
“No. No. No. National Guard. No help. Villains. Guard villains. Help we. Help Amity Park.”
Zatanna looked confused. “What? No the national guard is coming there to help.”
“National Guard. The.Villains. They guard. The villains. No help. They’ll. Weapon. Amity Park. Powers. Justice League Rescue Amity Park. Help. Help. Help.” The static became so prevalent that Zatanna had to fight the impulse to rip the headset off. She tried to decipher the words.
“Okay. Okay we’ll help you. But we need to be able to find you. Are you in a house or a building? Can you get to a rooftop?”
“Building Rooftop. Heroes Find Me.”
“How can we find you? Can you wave a flag or give us a sign. Are you a woman or a man? What do you look like.”
There was a long pause. “I can. Wave. Kid. Kid. Woman. Kid woman.”
Zatanna wondered for a long moment where the word ‘kid’ came from before remembering when she first accused the caller of prank calling. She said ‘Kid, this isn’t a joke.’ The she felt bile flood her throat as she understood what they meant. “Are…are you a child?”
Zatanna’s own voice answered back. “Child. Kid. Woman child. Rooftop. Help Justice League. Find. Me. Help Hostages. Help. Amity Park.”
Flashes voice came over the com line. Muted from the call but clear in Zatanna’s other ear. “Oh my god. I’m here. It’s a war zone. There’s…We’re going to need back up. Medical units. There are tanks and fires everywhere. There’s been some kind of artillery shot at different buildings. It’s a war zone.”
There was a silent horrified moment as all the heroes listening absorbed the information. “I think I see our caller. It’s a little girl. Maybe eight or ten. White hair. She’s floating. She’s on the library roof with a giant phone. I think she sees me.”
In Zatanna’s other ear her own voice repeated. “Heroes find me. Rooftop. Help.”
“The man in red is called Flash. He’s there to help.”
“He’s there. Man In Red. Help. Flash. Find me.”
“I’m on my way too. Just stay with Flash and tell him what you need, okay sweetie?” Zatanna’s voice was infinitely softer now that she knew it was a child on the phone.
“Okay. Stay with Flash. Help. On. You. Way.”
The line shut off and Zatanna flinch at the sudden silence in her ear. She glanced over at Hal. “I’m going to Zeta down to Amity.”
“I’m right behind you. Flash said a war zone. I…I need to be there.”
Zatanna nodded at his guilty expression. “Right. Let’s hurry and get to Amity Park.”
Dani calling in after Danny has to go defend civilians and having to plea for help is heartbreaking, she has to hide while being out in the open. Poor baby!!! How many times did she have to hide while she was out there?! Was that why it got harder to hear her at times!!!
When Flash got there, he almost got run over by a tank.
He had to force himself to keep going, the situation reminding him of occupation zones on Apokalips and the absolute disregard by troops over the people they were gunning down left and right, people coming back as green or blue hued being just to get sprayed with the pollen of these red flowers the invaders kept in clear jars mounted on the side of armored trucks.
Flash made the mistake of breaking one. Watching in horror as a newly created blue being dissolved into ash, her sobs echoed in his head as Flash called Zatanna for backup.
He found the little girl who called him on the library roof, the girl screaming at the phone to hold on, that Danny's coming soon, please Technus, hold on... the girl hugged the phone when its, their lights went out, Flash picking her up as quickly as he could and running her out, past the lines of tanks and to the outskirts of the nearest town, bringing her to a local diner and almost crying with relief as the old couple that ran it brought her to a booth, reassured him that she would be safe, and told him to bring as many as he could.
They had heard of what was happening, and by the TV they switched off when they sat her down with a late lunch, all they could do was watch.
Flash dashed back and forth, pulling out civilians and trying to fill his teammates in as he went. He made it to the local high school, gasping as he realized that the townspeople had turned it into a fortress, huddling in the blast shelter beneath it.
He openly sobbed when the cafeteria lady handed her 6 month old daughter to him, whispering how she had brought her to work for her favorite kids to see her.
Both her and her baby's father worked at the school, and by the way Flash had to dodge punches and a bat in order to get to the family. They were loved by the school too.
He sped out of the school, grabbing Hal along the way and making him promise to protect the school. He made it back to the diner to find it full, a few Amity Parkers that were traveling that day gathered around the TV, listening at low volume while the diners' regulars passed around a first aid kit. A new mom took the baby, and Flash returned to Amity Park, the rest of the Justice League Dark arriving and taking orders from Zatanna as he broke through the line of the now ruined tanks yet again.
Zatanna and Hal were evacuating the school, Booster Gold fighting the invading forces with Constantine and Plastic man, a blue being dressed as a punk rocker weaving between them, blasting the soldiers dressed in white, ducking behind the nearest hero whenever the soldier's guns got too close.
A white armored van bobbed and weaved madly through the chaos, the couple inside and presumably their daughter cackling like mad while gunning down and running over soldiers.
Supergirl showed up, too, tasked with throwing the tanks of poisonous flowers into the sun, along with moving the broken tanks out of the way of major roads, preventing the soldiers from taking cover inside them.
When the fighting was somehow, unbelievably over, Constantine, Flash, and Booster Gold painstakingly search the town for survivors, evacuating them to the same diner, the Justice League's support staff and medic corp having set up in the diner parking lot and surrounding areas, Flash letting out a relieved, half sobbing laugh as he watched the little girl from before and the baby be reunited with their families. The armored van from earlier pulled down the street, swerving to avoid a tent, rushing to join the girl and her brother.
Flash watched in silence as Zatanna called the all clear for the forensic teams to enter, biting his lip as the refrigerated vans drove into Amity.
The death count was not as high as it could have been, but he knew Hal, Zatanna, and himself would have many sleepless nights ahead running through all the ways that number could have been, would have been, should have been, lower.
Please return us to a world where Notp and squick are used for a ship you don’t like instead of just making up a load of bullshit about how immoral it is or w/e lol
a short selection of concepts and phrases that used to be commonplace in fandom and we’d really benefit from making that a thing again:
NOTP: the opposite of an OTP (One True Pairing). It is a ship a fan strongly dislikes. The word is a portmanteau of ‘no’ and ‘OTP’ and thus is not a contraction of any particular phrase.
Squick: anything that is a deep-seated, visceral turn-off. Squicks may be shared by many fans or be specific to one; one person’s kink may be another person’s squick.
YKINMKATO, or kink-tomato: Your Kink Is Not My Kink, And That’s Okay: used to indicate support for fannish diversity and to distinguish between disapproval or kink shaming and simply having different taste.
DLDR: Don’t Like, Don’t Read: a phrase used to warn against complaints about an aspect of fic or meta. A “live and let live” philosophy of fandom, which places the responsability for avoiding content one doesn’t want to see on the side of the fanwork consumer, rather that on the creator’s.
SALS: Ship And Let Ship: similar to the above specifically about shipping tastes.
YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary: a phrase used to acknowledge that any given individual’s personal opinion on the topic at hand may differ due to their own tastes, standards, values, experiences, etc.
As the OP points out, all of these crucially imply no moral judgment of what they’re designing.
