How Gabriel’s story might end (theory/spoiler)
We all know who Gabriel’s Agreste is; a Father who loves his son (whether he is the father of the year or not is up to debate) and a supervillain Hawkmoth, and one thing we do about him being a supervillain is that his role will soon end. And I have an idea to just how
Before we do that we have to acknowledge Gabriel’s defining traits
His emotional durability.
His durability is something we see at the end of each episode when he looses to our heroes he doesn’t whine or get too upset at times, he acknowledges that he lost and says he will win next time. This is arguably his greatest strength, is that he is willing to be hawkmoth for the rest of his life. When Timetagger said that he came from the future, it didn’t bother him that he was still going after the miraculous (granted Gabriel didn’t know that he wasn’t the one who sent Timetagger, but he was content with the concept). He has the power of an anime protagonist, and that is impressive.
Then there is his willingness to sacrifice for his cause. This is Gabriel’s other defining trait, and it is kind of tied in with his durability. In most case’s he is willing to sacrifice other’s for his goal, Akumatising them without a second thought so that it might help him save his wife, the inciting incident in most of the episodes. But he has been sacrificing himself, or that is too say his moral’s As when he destroyed the photo of Adrian made when he was young, he clearly cherished the picture (why else would he have it framed), but his plan needed to succeed, so he destroyed it. He also akumatised himself so that his plan could work. This just goes to show how far he is willing to go.
Then there is his relationship with his son. There is no question that Gabriel Agreste loves his son. And after his mother got put in the coffin thing (sentimonsters monster theory?), he put his son on lockdown to “protect him.” This is also why he continues to akumatize his victims because he still believes that he is doing it for his son sake. Because he knows best for his son. He is not as close to him as his mother was, but he love’s him all the same. However, he is not unreasonable with he has been able to compromise with his son on several occasions, letting him to school, hanging out with his friends after school hours and such things. So he is not 100% helicopter parent, he understands his son’s want (to a degree)
So here is how I see how his role as Hawkmoth comes to a close.
At some point, whether it is the season 3 finale or sometime later Hawkmoth will win, he will defeat Ladybug and Chat Noir, and steal their Miraculous. He would have finally prevailed after so long. He had finally worn down his foes, after countless battles. He would have prevailed through it all. He would combine the Miraculous and prepare to save his wife.
But then he learns of the price that he must pay. That in order to resurrect his wife, he would have to sacrifice someone, and he is willing to do it.
Then Adrian speaks up, he reveals himself that he is Chat Noir and tries to convince his father to stop, that he would not want this and neither would his mom. Gabriel would counter and said that everything he did was for his family for him. Words would be exchanged, and it will culminate to Adrian is rejecting the notion that his father knows what’s best for him. And he would believe him.
But that does not deter him, however, as he still makes the wish. This time, it is not some random person he would offer up as a tribute it would be himself.
Gabriel knows that he is not a perfect father to Adrian and that his mother would be a better parent to him than he ever could. So he does it, he sacrifices himself so that he could save his family. Because the power of love is that strong. Thus his time as Hawkmoth would be close.
And that is what I think! Sure it’s also likely that he just accepts his wife is gone and just stops being Hawkmoth. Maybe he goes to prison, perhaps he tries to redeem himself. Those are equally plausible ideas, and the show is not over. So we just have to wait and see.
