Sequel Complete | Karma in Glorious Splendor | Chapter 20
Thank you all for following along on this multi-year journey to completion of Wednesday's senior year. I appreciate the patience of my readers for enduring multiple hiatuses during the writing of the Chaos for the Fly sequel - but alas, the official two-part series is complete!
The next continuation in the series will be the College Years Collection. This will be different in format / possibly mixed-POV. There is not enough story left for this to be an official 'trilogy' though I'm sure you can expect me to get carried away with it lmfao. I will be taking a break from the Chaos Universe for the summer and anticipate the third installment will start in September.
A graduate school AU featuring Wednesday x Enid will be up within the next week or two as my Wednesday summer project. Lovely Thorns (and Singing Vultures) will continue to have one-shots featuring OCs from the universe as well.

Wednesday is only at the pitiful excuse of a university as her last chance to enter the field of criminality before falling victim to it herself.
Being forced into a married housing unit as the most volatile forensic psychology student of all time and the bubbly roommate who is overcompensating in drastic ways, the two will have to put extreme personality differences aside. Uncovering the secrets behind their university’s association with the psychiatric hospital they are forced to intern in will require cooperation and understanding of far more than theory.

It seems like there has been something in the air (other than the wildfire smoke) - my brain has been utterly melted lately (not even from the 'record breaking' temperatures). I've been consumed by the absolute chaos of US politics (because if you weren't aware it's not normal for the apolitical sibling of a dead senator to be appointed to fill their seat, and it's also not normal to double down when you cannot fulfill obligations to your constituents when your health is in decline for over a month because you're actually dead). Maybe it's the tens of millions of out of state / corporate / AIPAC money pouring in to run attack ads against the only progressive candidate for the senate primary in my state that's got me distracted. Or - perhaps it's the all encompassing reality of war crimes we are just casually committing daily by attacking desalination facilities. It could be that I'm afraid of my produce and haven't eaten a vegetable in two weeks.
Whatever the case - writing even as escapism, has felt exceptionally difficult this July 2026.

I am utterly consumed by politics these days. For a very long time I was committed to keeping politics out of my fandom activity because I wanted it to be an escape, but as AI and age-verification politics are creeping into fandoms left and right, I feel like I can't anymore. Feel free to hide the 'US politics' tag if you don't want to see this content from me, but I am too fired up by the midterms to be quiet.
A little less than half of US states have primaries elections coming up.
Do you know when your primary is? Are you registered to vote? Do you know your polling location? If you missed your primary, are you registered to vote in the general election on November 3rd? Do you know your deadline to register?
Do you know who is running for your representation at the federal level? Do you know who your candidates are for your state and local elections? Do you want to know who is funding the campaigns of the people who want your vote? (X)(X)(X)

I really liked Elle (2026, Amazon Prime). I think that a lot of the people who don't like it do have valid reasons, and it's mostly the same reason that people don't like my fic. (Outside of the length.) Also, disclaimer, fuck Reese Witherspoon for exploiting authors and endorsing AI. THAT SAID - I'm gonna talk about this show, if you care. 😘
Given that Elle is actually a horror character for Wednesday, she is literally her exact opposite in Legally Blonde. That said - to go from a 96 minute film to a 400 minute "season," she has to have character development. It would be extremely boring to watch a show about a "dumb blonde" for eight episodes. It would also be exceedingly disingenuous and a disservice to teenage girls everywhere to not let her make mistakes and grow. If you're going to play with your IP in a 'before' or 'after' way and have a full character arc, it's going to have to involve character growth. I think that Elle really did that.
Overall - I thought the plot was more realistic for the high school setting than others I have seen in the last few years. The solid dialogue was what stood out for me, because it was finally another show that I could get through without cringing (Widow's Bay had been the first show to do that in a long time). I loved the different types of mistakes Elle made, too - and yes, there was some het!romance-related mistakes, but that wasn't the entire focus of the show.
Unfortunately for Elle, this is a prequel, which means that something is going to happen in season two or beyond which devastates her to the point of ending up with a douche bag like Warren, and so obsessed with her sorority and interested in fashion that she doesn't know about any of the global issues of the day, which could be valid, but with how involved she was locally, I feel like she must have totally forgot about that once she got to college as well. This would have to give the next/last season of Elle a very unsatisfying ending to get us to Legally Blonde. (T. Martel and I discussed that maybe the reason this works in something like Bates Motel is because we're getting to the point of being a villian, and it just works better as a prequel to have a darker/unsatisfying ending. I'm not sure that works in a high school show with a bubbly hero.)
They've also messed with her Bruiser backstory, which is what sets up Legally Blonde 2. Much like criticism of my own work, I'd have to say that these factors make Elle an alternate universe version of the Elle Woods we know in Legally Blonde. And that isn't a bad thing, I just think it makes it hard to call it a prequel.
Also, LOVED the lesbians in this show! 🌈 Certainly got their moment and I'd love to explore Madison more. I think the girls who play Elle, Liz, and Maddison absolutely crushed it - 10/10, no notes. Excellent acting and delivery. I was rooting for all three of them the whole time. As always, I couldn't care less about the boys, lmfao.
My only real beef with this show is what I call 'The Twilight Sparkle Problem,' because the first time that it ever happened to the point where it took me out of the media was in Black Widow (2021). Yelena has a plush 2010s My Little Pony Twilight Sparkle as an alicorn. The opening scene took place in 1995.
I was distracted for the rest of the movie lmfao.
Elle does this a lot. This show is also set in 1995, and while they've got lava lamps and pay phones, they also feature Jellycat's Giant-sized Bartholomew Bear, Pinterest-style balloon arches and gold influencer number helium balloons, and so much dialogue (again, I'm praising this part of the show HOWEVER) that is 2020s lingo - it's so unbelievable to the time that it's set in. There's also some 90s trends that are coming in a bit too early in 1995 (like her clear phone). I wish I could have kept a list; there was at least one offense per episode that was so not part of the 1995 timeline that it would take me out of the show every time.
My last "wish" is that Elle would've gotten her a pair of Docs and pink laces and we could've had some fun lace code convos.
Unfortunately - like every streaming show, it'll probably be at least two years before the next "season" and I'll no-doubt lose interest and not watch it!

Savant Syndrome is usually caused by a brain injury (or developmental difference, but it’s 50/50) and it’s seen in people who struggle with basic cognitive and executive function, but have an exceptional talent in a specific field.
Emi has had repeated concussions, emotional trauma, and then The Incident. She can’t read among other things, but has impeccable ability on the Piano. It’s like stereotypical Savant Syndrome lol
If it’s not explicitly canon, it is my headcanon. I can’t remember if anyone talked about it.

I'll go ahead and confirm this one. Emiliana is complicated. It's been a minute since I re-read everything, and maybe I'm wrong - but looking back at my notes, I have never given her an official diagnosis outside of her traumatic brain injury because that's beyond my scope of practice lmfao. Even I have to throw up my hands and be like, "That's just Emi." I can't imagine writing 2.5 million words from her POV. I'd be utterly exhausted. Somehow - more so than with her baby bird.
They've joked about her being a savant (probably like, sixteen-year-old Josie internally in Lovely Thorns POVs, and Wednesday assuming) when it comes to her music and fiber arts skills.
She's obviously wrestled with addiction and clearly has trauma from childhood abuse, but I'm pretty sure I've never put a diagnostic label on that. (Too long, didn't read lmfao - sometimes I can find these things easily with a command-F but I don't feel like it tonight.) I think a lot of Emiliana's reluctance to deal with the "mental health" side of things outside of the non-disputable physical brain injuries, is, much like Wednesday's seizures, where does the "mental health/disorder" start and the "Raven" of it all end. How does one even begin to find a mental health professional who can deal with it all? Hence, she needed a dead one. Dr. Kinbott probably wouldn't have known much what to do with Emiliana in life, but in death - it's not like she had a whole lot else going on.
Something that I had a lightbulb with recently is that Emi's early troubles with reading and mood regulation probably weren't all entirely due to isolation or abuse - but more of a chicken/egg argument. I think that we know how sick and twisted her parents were, but what if it went further back to an abuse-related accident? We know that Chaos-universe Ravens are particularly troubled in early childhood. I have a feeling that Emiliana probably had Shaken Baby Syndrome which led to many of her neurological issues, on top of the pervasive mood regulation difficulties...everything was exacerbated and continued to fuel that abuse pattern.
I don't know if I'd consider Wednesday a savant. I think she's incredibly gifted on her cello, I think she's great at pattern recognition / good at detective work (leaps to entirely too many conclusions), has great martial arts abilities, and probably finds most of this comes "natural" to her (and in Chaos, due to destiny, she's gifted with Mimcry) - but I don't think any ONE thing strikes me enough to call her a savant. I feel like she probably would be more in line with a plethora of "Splinter Skills."

Last year, I was having issues with creeps and that unfortunately included even on The Green Music Application. I, a rapidly aging millennial who exceedingly lacks understanding on all technological fronts, did not know there was so much information on my Spotify profile that was public and that people could have access to it through shared playlists. Then they went and added a messaging feature (for fucking what). Honestly, I’m so happy to see this little mystery series getting the recognition it deserves.
The performances especially stand out to me. Matthew Rhys as Tom Loftis, Kate O’Flynn as Patricia Moyer, Stephen Root as Wyck Crawford, and Dale Dickey as Rosemary all brought something special to the show.
The writing, directing, and all the creative work behind the scenes being recognized feels incredibly fitting too. Widow’s Bay worked because of all those small details that slowly built its strange little world.
