What is White-labeling in UX design?

White-labeling in UX design is when products or services are rebranded and sold to multiple users as a customisable product.

How did we implement white-labeling in UX design?

Yellow Slice’s client, Finaureus engages in building digital products for the finance industry.

As Finaureus’ clientele includes multiple Banks and NBFCs, the product had to ve versatile. It was essential that the product made fits the brand design of its clients.

Since most banks have the colour blue, we built the initial app in blue. However, to ensure that it fits multiple brand designs, the app was delivered to Finaureus in multiple colour tones.

We have used a neutral Black colour for the generic UI elements like buttons, etc. These don’t change with the colour options.

The Challenge:

While delivering the app in multiple colour tones, it was integral that other supporting elements fit the theme. This meant that elements like graphs and buttons had to be represented in the same base colour.

This is also where the problem lay. The task was to change not just the base colour but also incorporate tints and shades to represent multiple brands.

Solution:

This problem was solved by implementing a pattern based on single accent colours playing with their Hex Values. We created various tints of the same color to represent complex information. For this purpose, we used a tool called: www.hexcolortool.com. This tool uses a special algorithm to define the colour selection and generate various shades and tints. The Core Hex Values we used include:

Mobile App Audit for the Perfect App UI

The ideal Mobile App Audit is an art and a science. The design of your mobile app could make or break its fate. Although style can’t beat substance for sure, it’s a definite deal-breaker among app users. To make any app a success, it’s inside as well as its outside needs to be appealing. And here are a few aspects you need to concentrate on when you audit an application’s UI.

Check the simplicity and intuitiveness

“Always keep it simple when developing the UI”, you must have learned it a million times over.

Users should be able to use the app on their smartphone device based on their previous experiences and its intuition. For example, a user would expect the homepage after they log-in.

The other element of simplicity is language and word use within the text. The simpler the interface is, the easier it is to keep the viewers focused on the screen. This is why you should preferably design elements that incorporate in easy and simpler ways.

Test the responsiveness

Align the design with brand design

The application is a reflection of the actual brand, continuity between the two needs to remain.

The basic tone, mood, connotation and design of a product or brand can be set by colour. This is especially visibly practised by brands like McDonald’s or Domino’s.

Taking into consideration that the MacDonald logo is red and yellow colour. Thus, the overall theme for the mobile application will be the same. Anything else like white or blue won’t feel familiar. In its essence, the product application design will be identical to the actual brand design.

Evaluate the colour schemes

There’s no way around it: Color is the innovative factor with the maximum impact in visual design.

Colour can literally make your product, or break it. It can bring it up from good to great. A bad combination of colours will distract from the overall experience for your users. Less is better with colour. When used in combination with less saturated colours, a heavily saturated colour is vibrant. Evite the low contrast of text against the background. Eliminate complementary colours for text and the background, particularly if the colours are of similar brightness as well as saturation. For instance, a yellow sentence on a purple background might be too harsh.

Verify the information architecture

Eventually, while developing the user interface, preferably one should start preparing the journey of the user on the mobile device. Build wire-frames describing the path. It will help understand whether there are too many or fewer elements for the page than required.

Later, test the navigation feature of the conversion and usability of the interface from the user perspective. An interface can be assumed to work well if the links and tabs, using the thumb and finger, are clickable and accessible from all corners of the app screen.

It’s a tough job to develop a mobile app with a great UI. It needs years of experience and a thorough understanding of the psychology of users. But, checking and auditing our own work, does make things better. Thus, keep iterating and testing to get the perfect design for mobile apps.

How to become a UX Manager?

UX Managers analyze, plan and architect the design of user experience for websites and web applications. Besides what you might hear, UX managers really aren’t doing any of the meticulous research on their own. As managers, they already have a group of individuals working with them. This is also complemented with a team of associates and employees to complete the entire project. It requires adjustments to become a UX manager, as it includes unique and special skills and areas of responsibility.

Hire and manage excellent UX talent

Presumably, the most critical part of UX management is recruiting and managing UX talent. Without a well-qualified team, delivering successful projects will not be possible.

UX is now so specialized that we cannot solely rely on recruiters in order to find candidates for UX jobs.

A UX manager, who has been a UX designer himself will be able to clearly identify the requirements of such a role. Thus, playing a primary role in recruitment helps eliminate any risks of hiring an under-qualified candidate.

Build and track the budget

Team budgets define the funds that a group is allocated for its management. A UX manager, with his/her experience, recognizes the requirements of the team and can efficiently allocate budgets.

Team budgets include aspects as training, commuting, or other costs to keep a team in operation. New UX managers should understand how their project budget is set and what the budget needs are. They also need to ascertain an ideal timeframe for making additions to the budget.

Creating and eliminating processes
