Gimme the stoic character sitting up all night with a cup of tea that's slowly growing cold, stuck in their own thoughts. Now bring in the comic relief, or the medic, or the young one, and have them lead the stoic character to bed, where they can finally rest with the others watching over them.

Just wanted to say to all my followers and friends Happy Pride month. As much as we love traumatizing and hurting our fictional babies it's important to remember that all humans are valid in however they feel.

I've seen many posts about lycanthropic whumees, whumpees with super powers or magic, winged whumpees...... but where are my mermaid whumpees?

Siren whumpee being forced to sing for a crowd, but her voice is dry from singing so much in the air and her whumper won't give her water.

The collar is very inconveniently placed over the gills, so when whumpee is under water they struggle to breathe.

Food being placed far out of reach, maybe on land several feet away, maybe suspended high above the tank, either way, whumpee has to work for it.

Broken fins, broken tail bones, broken shoulders.

A warm-water species is kept in a cold, dark tank, or a cold-water species is kept in a warm, brightly lit tank.

Whumper doesn't clean the tank, and doesn't put any fish that would clean it in the tank because then whumpee could talk to someone.

The tank is too small, or frightenly large.

Whumpee is placed in a tank that is dangerous (wrong pH, wrong turbulance, wrong conditions, OR, electric or morray eels, giant octopodes that could eat whumpee if they get too close, 20 foot long crocodiles, venomous jellyfish, baracudas.....water is actually terrifying I could go on forever)

No way of actually escaping the whumper unless the whumper also lives under water. Sure their friends can come supposing they're land-dwelling, but what about transporting whumpee away? How could their under-water friends come?

Whumpee tied up at the bottom of the tank

Whumpee not even being put in a tank, maybe at the bottom of a well, or in a moist dungeon, or a bathtub with broken faucets or a standing shower.

Whumpee is cut, whipped, anything that draws blood, and dunked in salt water.

Maybe the whumper collects cryptic whumpees. A freshwater species and salt water species of mermaids live in tanks beside eachother. Small cages containing rare harpies or angels with unique featherings or dragonkin angels hang like balloons. An actual demon has a cell nearby, but cold iron shackles decorated with specific runes that keep them from using their magic to get out (not even hell gave him this much trauma). A werewolf and a vampire. Fae powers are abused on the regular.

a concept:

the villain holds your character at gunpoint to negotiate with the team leader

but what the villain doesn't know is that the character is already injured, dark spots dancing at the edge of their vision

their struggles grow weaker, and as the villain squeezes an arm around the character's throat and pushes the barrel on their temple hard enough to leave a mark, the character's knees buckle and they black out

(the team leader falters at the sight of their friend passing out in the arms of the villain, but they must take advantage of the distraction)

When the caretaker finds the whumpee on their doorstep, beat up and bloody, and they gently bring them inside and patch them up. The whumpee hissing in pain when the caretaker cleans their wounds, and the caretaker apologizing, trying to be gentle as they work. The whumpee nearly dozing off against the caretaker’s shoulder as they care for the whumpee’s bruised, bloody knuckles, and the caretaker having to guide them out to the couch, because they’re half asleep. The caretaker settling them on the couch and going to get them some ice and a glass of water, and returning to find the whumpee completely asleep. The caretaker not being surprised, and just setting the water on a nearby table, then gently placing ice packs on the worse of the bruising before going to find the whumpee a blanket.

“hnnngh why does every villain have to have a traumatic backstory why can’t they just be EVIL” is the most tiring take like love and light to all of you but backstories wherein there was an unsatisfied need or a great unresolved pain that calcified into cruelty directed at others slap actually like you can watch despicable me again but im gonna be over here enjoying the absolute tragedy of a character whom you’d never guess was a crying child in the dark once enacting evil so immense that it renders their own pain irrelevant in the long term

Whump Prompt #650

The team are forced into a dream-state in which they re-live the whumpees worst memories.

After a while, the team are able to wake up, mortified at the memories A had suppressed for so long. But A doesn’t stir… they’re trapped in their own mind re-living the events in excruciating detail.

(Alternatively: instead of magic, they’re subject to a hallucinogenic gas/drug… of which A has been exposed to for a worrying amount of time.)
