the replacement of websites with apps sounds so backwards when you actually describe it. like hmm you have to download an entire program onto your device each time you want access to a portal, where it takes up storage indefinitely. somebody should invent an app where you can "browse" any portal just by typing in its address... 🥴
This is because browsers allowed people to put custom measures in place that were for the interests of users.
Apps allow developers to run their programs like their own little fiefdoms. They control things there, you don't know how to readjust it to prevent them from getting what they want from your device.
Once you remember that it was for their benefit and not yours, it makes perfect sense.
Too many people feel like it's not their responsibility to try and make the world a better place. And honestly, I feel like it's the ONLY responsibility that ALL of us are born with. And it isn't too terribly hard. There's just so much nihilism in today's society.
For example, the gen-AI thing. Far too many people have resigned themselves to the fact that it's just here to stay. Or worse, they've decided to relieve themselves of the burden of any responsibility. That is not to say that greedy corporations and corrupt politicians aren't overwhelmingly to blame, because they absolutely are. But if all of the people who ignored or caved to the AI pressure actually stopped using it and BETTER YET also spoke out against it? That adds up and could make a difference.
Most of us aren't going to be a person in Congress introducing/voting on policy, or a billionaire with money to throw at problems. But we all have a voice and we can use it for good. Write to your representatives, refuse to give your money to corporations and people that support human rights violations/genocide and destroy the environment. Fight with your vote and your money. Hit them where it hurts.
We have to stop assuming that it's either all doomed regardless or that someone else will fix it, so we have no inherent responsibility. This our planet, our home. It is so incredibly special and rare, as are the species that call it home. We need to take care of our home, our family, our friends. That is EVERYONE'S responsibility, and at the end of the day, it's the only one that matters.

Nader is a young adult. He just turned 18 this year. He's had to sacrifice all of his dreams and comforts due to the escalating genocidal occupation of Gaza by the zionist project. His house was destroyed, his education was taken from him, and he has become the sole provider for his family of 8 through fundraising on tumblr. I want you to think about that weight. To be made responsible for the survival of your whole family as a teenager, and for this to depend on getting and maintaining the attention of people in the global north every day for years.
Israel has systematically worked to disable the population, and to destroy all means for disabled people to survive. Nader's father has experienced his health conditions become increasingly severe. He has stents in the main arteries of his heart due to blocked arteries. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer and needs surgery to remove a tumor. However, medical evacuation from Gaza is extremely expensive. Coordination costs can be over $12,000 per person, and Nader's father cannot make this journey alone.
Earlier today, Nader's father had to be brought to the Intensive Care Unit at their nearest hospital. He is now on life support. The systematic destruction of Gaza's healthcare system has left 94% of hospitals destroyed, and none of the remaining 36 are able to operate at full capacity. There are medicine and medical supply shortages. In this state, healthcare bills for this care are even more expensive. Please help Nader (@naderalanqar2007) to raise funds to save his father's life, and to support his family through this traumatic situation.
My father is suffering, and our lives are very difficult. I'm a borderline player, and about two weeks ago, my main blog was deleted, which has made our financial situation extremely difficult. For some time now, I've been trying to recover my blogs and create new ones, but Tumblr keeps deleting them or blocking messages from them. Please donate now. We haven't received any donations for about 14 days. We need a lot of money to pay my father's medical bills. I beg you, please donate.
it's disability pride month and my previous post is not inspiring donations so here we go again!
hi!! I'm TDF and this is what's in my only bank account rn:
I'm multiply disabled and living under the poverty line. My income adds up to about 1/3 of the local minimum wage.
I am stuck in bed most of the time because my physical health is so bad, and I have expenses nondisabled people don't.
right now I'm asking for help with groceries, medication, and hygiene/cleaning items, if any financially secure adult is willing to help!
Many of the items on my list are $5 or less, I just literally do not have $5 rn.

Thank you for being kind about this being on your dash!

hi I just did some stressful math and discovered it's worse than I thought. I don't know how I'll get through the month without help.
I need to get groceries this weekend. Would anyone who can comfortably afford it be willing to help with like even $5?
please? 🥺
last month was SO expensive w all the various problems/emergencies and having to feed multiple additional people who have celiac disease.
I ended up having to borrow money just for necessities, because even for one person my tiny income is not enough. Paying it back will take about half my grocery budget for July.
I'm making do as best I can. I've put off getting many necessities as long as possible and I'm eating cheap stuff that causes physical pain to save money.
But I'm stuck in bed even more than usual rn with a chronic illness flareup, so I need things I can easily prepare without leaving bed. I have a mini fridge and a microwave next to the bed, so that part isn't so bad, but convenient foods (esp those that don't cause pain!) are expensive.
And all the meds and hygiene stuff I've been delaying are making their absence strongly felt. 😅
Any help at all would be a huge win. I'm having a hard time with the financial stress and it would be a huge relief to be even $1 closer to meeting these needs.
I'm out of magnesium, and rationing the throat numbing spray I'm almost out of that helps a lot with the strep like throat pain from my autoimmune stuff.
any help would make a big difference 💖
nothing since above ☀️ any donation from any adult who can happily afford it would ease the stress I'm experiencing and get me that much closer to meeting these needs!!
i haven't seen anything about this on my dashboard, so i wanted to share. ICE gestapo killed another human being on tuesday. he leaves behind three sons and his wife, who he has spent the last 35 years building a life with

So, I’ve been pulled over a few times in my life. Not many, but a few. And I’ve also been in a couple of cars that got pulled over. And let me tell you, if you were actually doing something wrong, the officer doesn’t make any small talk, just straight into “I clocked you doing 70 in a 55.” The only time I’ve ever gotten the “do you know why I pulled you over?” was the time when I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and I got let go even though he insisted to the end that I was doing 87 in a 70 (white privilege at work).
“Do you know why I pulled you over?” is a trap. It means there’s a good chance the officer doesn’t actually have a good reason to ticket you, and is trying to get you to waive your 5th Amendment rights and incriminate yourself. If you make a guess, that’s a confession of guilt.
But there’s another trap, that I’ve heard of but haven’t yet experienced. It’s “do you know how fast you were going?” With that one, they’re hoping you’ll say no, because then they can name whatever speed they want – you just said you didn’t know how fast you were going, if you deny the speed they name then you’re lying to them.
Oh, I’ve had that one. Go with “yes.” Don’t give them a number, just say “Yes.” Then they still have to offer a number and you can deny it without contradicting yourself. They could just ask you, at that point, but that’s suspiciously similar to saying they don’t know, and they tend to avoid doing that.

if you scroll past this just because it doesn’t affect you personally, i see you.
Also, you can always go to court and contest a ticket, and a lot of times you’ll win. Or if the cop thinks you’ll win they won’t even show up and you’ll win by default.
They like to target out of state plates because anyone who would be majorly inconvenienced by a court date two months away is a lot more likely to just pay it.
It's actually super unethical to keep a peeve as a pet
disabled people are often in permacrisis
there's never enough money each month. there's always an unexpected illness. new symptoms pop up or old symptoms flare up. meds have to be managed always and refilled constantly and any refill has the opportunity to go wrong. any regular care has the opportunity to go wrong. any mistake can send your health spiralling. it's always "i just need to get through this bad patch" but as soon as one ends another begins. another crisis begins in the middle of the last crisis. managing one thing leaves another thing to be neglected until that becomes a major issue and has to be managed asap and the cycle starts anew over and over and over

“Teachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions. Dale Spender, an Australian feminist who has been a strong advocate of female rights in this area, noted that teachers who tried to restore the balance by deliberately ‘favouring’ the girls were astounded to find that despite their efforts they continued to devote more time to the boys in their classrooms. Another study reported that a male science teacher who managed to create an atmosphere in which girls and boys contributed more equally to discussion felt that he was devoting 90 per cent of his attention to the girls. And so did his male pupils. They complained vociferously that the girls were getting too much talking time. In other public contexts, too, such as seminars and debates, when women and men are deliberately given an equal amount of the highly valued talking time, there is often a perception that they are getting more than their fair share. Dale Spender explains this as follows: “The talkativeness of women has been gauged in comparison not with men but with silence. Women have not been judged on the grounds of whether they talk more than men, but of whether they talk more than silent women.” In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as ‘too much’ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts.”

This comic is about my friend Fadel. He survived the bombing of his home over 800 days ago, and has still not raised enough money to get to a hospital where they can remove the shrapnel from him. Worse, he rarely has enough money to even afford his medications and supplements to treat his blood disorder and the effects of long-term malnutrition.
Without access to medication, Fadel suffers from severe anemia, which leads him to faint. His family finds him collapsed unconscious, and must go through new fear that he has died, over and over. He has been hospitalized many times this year.
Fadel needs Erythropoietin (EPO) injection, Desferal, Paracetamol, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and Folic Acid / Vitamin B9. @fadell-aldany can barely afford a portion of them. This costs about $800 currently. When his condition becomes so debilitating that he cannot bear the severity of his pain, he needs pain medication. Israel's blockades create extreme scarcity, and a single pill now costs $100. He tells me that he hasn't been able to obtain it for a long time. Please donate and offer him some relief.
I've been suffering from severe anemia for almost six months. I can't bear to watch my body wasting away. I've also had metal fragments stuck in my body for over two years, and I haven't been able to remove them yet. Please, I don't want to lose myself. Please stand by me.
Please stand by me I need your halp to stop my pain and save myself as quickly as possible. Please don't ignore us. Every act of kindness makes a huge difference.
yesterday i made a beetle out of soda tabs and wire. we took the bus home.
If I die, remember that I begged you and asked you for a small donation or to share my post. I will not forgive anyone who sees this post and does not support me with a single word or a small donation and ignores me.
Im writing this post with tears in my eyes from the intense pain I'm experiencing. I've suffered from severe pain and multiple fainting spells this past week due to my severe anemia and my inability to afford all the medications I need because of their high cost. All I wish for is to never faint again, so I hope you will stand by me and help me buy my medications quickly. Please stand by us.
Worse still, I was injured when our house was bombed while we were inside (700 days ago). I was hit by shrapnel that is still embedded in my body, and I need urgent surgery to remove it. Throughout this time, I have been suffering from constant pain. My surgery is very expensive, and I don't have enough money for it. Now I can't sleep because of the intense pain, and I can't afford my medications and painkillers to stop the pain because of their high price, I don't know what to do!!!
I need your help to stop my pain and save myself as quickly as possible. Please, I don't want to die. Please help me raise the money for my medication and surgery as soon as possible. Please stand by me. And look what's happening to us
Please help my dear friend Fadel <3 He really needs funds for his medications and painkillers. No one should endure such an intense pain for so long. Please give him the gift of relief from pain. Help him to survive this genocide.
Hey everyone, please don't stop sharing this post and look at me with compassion. Please stand by me and see my situation. I desperately need your help and support. Please don't ignore me.
