Kiku recently used a paper straw and it was awful. And Kiku has to have straws because if don't Kiku chokes on liquids. Kiku has metal straws but they take so many spoons to clean and are more difficult than plastic straws.

So I'm just gonna vent about things for a while. Stay or go, it doesn't matter.

I do not understand what my parents want from me. I had to move back in with them after they had made me housing-insecure (by "housing-insecure" I mean I couch surfed and slept with randos for a warm bed and faked my way into buildings with white privilage smoke and mirrors so it wasn't real homelessness) for the third time, the only time I was housing-insecure as an adult. The rest of the times they kicked me out, I was in middle school and high school.

They keep telling me I'm lazy and ridiculing me for "wanting" to be there and "having no ambition" and asking why I don't want more for myself and why I'm "choosing" this, but as soon as I say I don't want to be there and this is just the only place I can live for $400/month and moving isn't cheap, suddenly I'm "ungrateful" and "just complaining" and I should suddenly want to be there. Should I want this, or shouldn't I?

Also, I would imagine that very few people would want to live in an environment where they are constantly being told that they are not doing enough when they're doing all they can, where they get their property destroyed or taken, where they get made fun of, where there's a constant risk of contracting a virus that could easily kill them.

My mattress is full of mold and I can't afford a new one. My room is full of dishes and dust and garbage that I struggle to clean on my own. No one "chooses" to live like this. It's rank and disgusting and makes me feel like a dirty disgusting person.

I fucking hate this and I'm gonna find a way out. I have only been given 6 months to get out of here despite having to build everything from the ground up again. I had to start over every time they kicked me out and it takes years to get everything back including the money I had to spend to stay alive when I didn't have secure housing. All my savings, which wasnt much.

I'm so sick of struggling to get anywhere when I end up back at square one every day. I just can't keep up with the physical demands of taking care of myself and doing all the domestic tasks when I'm also fighting back pain and POTS. And it just doesn't stop cause I can't let myself and my partner starve, or sit in filth or choke on dust. I clean after them too and I don't want them to think I'm disgusting because I am physically unable to do cleaning tasks sometimes and the tasks just pile up because no one else is gonna do it.

I'm just at a loss.

A lot of my childhood looked like my parents or other adults who were in charge of teaching me things shaming me (usually to/in front of other adults) for not already having a skill, me learning that skill independently on my own, and then those same people wanting credit for teaching me how to do the skill when they did absolutely nothing and I did all the work so that they wouldn't shame me.

If you want credit for someone's upbringing, you tend to have to do anything to bring them up in the first place.

I got some money for my birthday from my older relatives, and now I can finally build my corsi Rosenthal box thing.

I have to modify it for one filter because those things are expensive af, but I'm still so excited to finally have another layer of protection.

Already have the mouthwash and nasal spray.

Now, the only issue is getting my partner to use the mouthwash or nasal spray.

I didn’t want to disrupt the post about hostile architecture I saw because it’s true that the main target is homeless people but I did want to mention that this architecture also hurts people who aren’t skinny. I want to preface this all by saying I am in no way trying to minimize how this impacts people experiencing homelessness I am just trying to add on to the discussion of how these are bad.

You think that someone who can’t fit into those weird little yellow seats is going to feel comfortable? No. It will only make them feel bad or excluded.

Look at this shit. It’s not good or nice.

It only adds to the ways fat people are made feel unwelcome and though we already needed to tear this shit down because it makes life a million times worse for people experiencing homelessness and so this isn’t saying this is why you should tear it down. It is saying that our society is fatphobic and that sucks.

This isn’t a side effect, hostile architecture is designed to drive EVERYONE who’s “undesirable” from public spaces. Homeless people are the biggest targets but also disabled people, fat people, elderly people, etc. Other things, like anti-“loitering” measures and increased presence of police and security, drive out even more people, especially people of color and teenagers.

You aren’t disrupting or derailing discussions by talking about your experiences, we NEED to talk about the ways that different kinds of people are declared “unwanted” and pushed out of society.

Yeah, we no longer have “ugly laws” on paper, but in practice and architecture, we still absolutely do. If anything, we’ve gotten worse and more hostile towards “ugly” (unhoused, disabled, fat, etc) people in the past ten years- and this is exacerbated in the USA especially by the way communities are built to be car-dependent and segregated by class and race.

yeah theres no way to stop using amazon completely because they own so many things and many websites use them for hosting, but audible is something we really dont need. amazon is already trying to replace public libraries with “audible amazon libraries” and we cant let that happen. your libraries are already payed for with taxes ((though normally way underfunded because politicians normally dont care enough))

use libby or overdrive for audiobooks or ebooks, support libraries and buy from their used books sale (ive scored so many awesome books, and old books! as well as some great cds and movies) , and many libraries also mail out books!! theres so many options and libraries are always changing to make themselves more accessible for everyone, so support them! theyre such an important part of your community.

Today you're just expected to eat Capn Crunch because that's what you do as a child, that's what breakfast looks like. Which is... fine, I guess. Sugar still tastes good. That's still a pleasure you're otherwise asked to disavow by the protein shake nutribottles advertised on podcasts.

But it also means the idle minor joy of getting a random toy present, as a reward for nothing, just because you exist, is stripped. That random spark of joy is gone, replaced with nothing.

Where did the public pool go? the neighborhood park? the atrium food court public place to gather?

Same thing. All of them were just replaced with nothing.

Kids today have many good things. But it shouldn't be a trade off. They should get to have instant messages with friends and go skating at the park. They should get to play amazing modern video games at home and go trick or treating for halloween. They should be able to have stickers and markers and macaroni art as well as youtube and streaming libraries and fortnite dances.

Fun should be allowed at every level.

Public pools, and other public areas that you could just exist at for free are called third places. They are places you books be found at outside of work/school and home.

And most of them were destroyed after the Civil Rights Movement (or had a large fee slapped on them) because previous to Civil Rights you had a "Whites Only" sign. Post Civil Rights a large fee was your "Whites Only" sign due to systemic racism. (And many of them were torn down because fees weren't enough to keep people of color out and that pissed racist white people off).

I have a few posts on it under the tag "third places" I believe.

The rest of this post is probably true but the loss of places you can exist for free (unless you live in an upper class majority white community) is absolutely racism.
