Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism 👍🏾 you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.
SPOILER FOR NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON'T
keep scrolling if you don't want to see it! discussions on charlie's name from now you three me under the read more button
in the beginning of now you see me 3, charlie is introduced by daniel as "Charlie Gees" — a last name we know to be fake, given that charlie introduces himself as charlie vanderberg at the end of the movie.
why Gees?
-> "gees" in Afrikaans means, quite literally, "ghost", "spirit" or "enthusiasm". it's a word used not only to indicate ghosts, but also the spirit of comradery — bringing people together. Charlie Gees is therefore the most apt name he could have had — and one he likely gave himself.
this is also sort of affirmed by bosco, during charlie's big reveal, introducing charlie not only as "the mastermind" but also "a ghost". charlie's name from the very beginning has been a clue to his identity without giving it away just yet.
it's genuinely starting to piss me off how the only context i see female nysm characters mentioned in is when they're plot devices to the men (yes, including ship content)
give me henley whumps. give me a fic from lula's pov. make alma the main character. hell, make them all date each other and don't mention a singular man. i love jack and i love danny and i love dylan and i love merritt but there are other characters too.
If you were going to give religious trauma to the different members of the horsemen - who would it be, why, and how?
This feels like quite a strange ask but I thought you might have some opinions on it or enjoy toying with the idea given what's in your pinned post and I've really loved the way you write about religion and its portrayal in other media <33
Okay, One. I love asks these are so fun.
disclaimer: my love for religious imagery in fandom is entirely because of my religious beliefs and not rooted in religious trauma so I may have different takes on this than the public does.
Overall though, I don’t actually think there’s a lot of religious trauma in Now You See Me. But here’s a series of religious headcanons for the series.
Danny is Jewish. Very culturally Jewish, somewhat Religious. Rarely attends services but does interact with traditions occasionally.
Henley was raised missionary baptist. She’s still practicing but doesn’t attend services. Completely chill about it.
Merritt went to church as a kid occasionally, not really the holidays just whenever his mom decided it would be fun. He loved VBS so much and hated preaching because it was boring.
Jack’s an atheist and never had a strong opinion about any of it. Never attended a church, would if someone asked him to but he just never was in a position too.
Dylan also never went to church but his is much more purposeful than Jack. He believes in science and not miracles.
Lula is Jewish. She’s more religiously practicing than Danny.
nysm:nyd spoilers
Charlie didn’t grow up in any church. He’s pagan now.
June grew up Catholic. She’s the only one with any actual religious trauma. She has a strong fear of purgatory, rather than fear of hell. Being just not quite good enough and being eternally bored is her greatest fear. She’s no longer practicing and is at a weird point between believing and not believing. She wears a virgencita necklace occasionally.
Bosco grew up going to church occasionally. No longer believes but came to terms with being an atheist incredibly easily. He doesn’t think religion is a scam, but it’s similar to magic to him. Everyone needs something to believe in.
