Hi just hit 6k on NaNoWriMo. I feel very behind but I really just spilled out 5k during one writing session so like, what even is time, and does it really matter?
I'm writing when I can, which is not every day, and overall I'm just glad I've made some progress!
Novel Update 5
Soooooooooo.........
I haven't written in the past week at all, because my life became a mess really quickly.
I'm moving into a new place, while also finishing my degree, while also getting called back to work, and it's a lot on my little brain.
But today seems like a nice chill day to write, so I'll see where I get to today.
Writing about body pain
Body pain happens all the time in real life. When writing your story, you want to bring your characters to life. By creating characters and an environment that is immersive and realistic (as possible), it helps your readers relate to your characters. This is a quick guide to body pain, that is especially useful for all those adventures your characters will be going on. No one survives a dragon attack or war without some kind of injury. At the very least, some muscle soreness.
3 stages of healing:
1st stage: Acute This is the start of the process after getting hurt. Depending on the severity, often lasts up to a week. Characteristics: severe pain, inflammation/swelling, dark bruises (red, black and blue), muscle weakness, muscle spasms, reduced range of motion.
2nd stage: Sub-Acute This is when your body is starting to heal the tissue by creating scar tissue to replace or repair damage. Can last several weeks Characteristics: reduced swelling, bruises are clearing (yellow, green, brown), range of motion is starting to improve, less pain than before.
3rd stage: Chronic This is the final stage of the healing process. It can last months, if not years. Your body is finally adapting to the changes. Pain is no longer associated with the injury, but instead how the body healed. Characteristics: no bruising, little to no swelling, mature scar tissue (usually tough, and harder to move than other tissue), pain is more of an ache, not sharp. If not taking care of, mature scar tissue can cause muscle tension and reduced range of motion. Pain mostly comes on at the end range of a movement, or with stretching.
Visceral Pain:
Visceral pain is organ pain. When one of your organs are causing problems, or are in pain, it typically feels more like a dull pain, or a pressure. The pain is usually vague, so itās hard to tell where itās coming from. Thankfully, visceral pain usually follows typical pain patterns, and you can easily find charts online. Example: Lung and diaphragm pain is usually around your neck and shoulders.
Nerve pain:
Nerve pain happens when the nerve is being pinched, compressed or was directly injured. Characteristics: shooting, tingling, zaps, numbness, stabbing or burning. Numbness is not like an analgesic. It can be a reduced sensory feelings, meaning you may not feel it if someone touches that part, but it can be very painful. Nerve pain will follow the length of the nerve.
Bone and joint pain:
These pains are directly associated with a trauma. Pain is localized to the specific bone or joint. Characteristics: Usually described as a sharp pain, especially with movements involving the painful area.
Muscle Pain:
Muscle pain is extensive. Muscles work hard to protect your body while injured. Muscles will tense when the body is in pain, which usually results in more problems. This pain can be caused by overuse, injury, emotional and physical stress, or compensation for other injuries. Characteristics: deep steady aches, sharp, shooting pain, soreness, burning in muscles, spasms. Muscles will have two main problems if not injured: tension and trigger points. Trigger Points (aka knots) happen in very tense muscles. Trigger points follows specific patterns in each muscle. Example: a trigger point in the upper traps muscle is felt in the head, neck and shoulders. Pains and tensions like these can often be the cause of headaches.
Pain priority:
Your brain processes pain in a specific way. Most often, your brain is so busy running everything, when it comes to experiencing pain, it canāt do it all at once. Thankfully. This means, if you have pain in your neck, your back, and your feet, there will usually only be one as the most painful while the others are background pain. The worst pain will usually be associated with your activities, and which part of your body youāre using the most. When getting rid of one of these pains, the next most painful one will be most noticeable. Have you ever had pain on one side of your body, then had it fixed with physio or a massage, then all of a sudden you notice pain somewhere else? It may not be new, itās just that your body wasnāt focusing on that problem.

Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.Ā It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search termsĀ
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.Ā As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
ā
Google is so powerful that it āhidesā other search systems from us. We just donāt know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.

Novel Update #4
omg can't believe I get to start working on my first draft tomorrow! I feel the ending of the story is a bit... unseasoned to say the least, but I'm trying to just write down stuff and then later figure stuff out; it's just the first draft! and maybe I'll figure out how to make it better when I start actually writing that part!
Introducing Nathrheim Publishing, and a sneak peek at our first project!
Happy Halloween! @elijahrichardwrites, @fearofahumanplanet, @bpdgotmelike, and @thenightmarewrites are eager to announce our latest project - Nathrheim Publishing House, an independent punk publishing house with the goal of uplifting marginalized voices, radical leftist perspectives, and other works that find themselves struggling to gain representation in an otherwise insular and restrictive market.
Our goals?
To seek out and publish marginalized & othered voices of any sort - are you a POC? LGBT? Disabled, visible or not? Suffering a stigmatized disorder (Cluster B folks, line right up)? Lower-class? Any sort of outcast? You're the exact sort of people we're looking to represent. We feel there aren't enough perspectives on the market, and we want to change that.
An approachable, transparent business style. All too often, publishing houses are downright opaque about their intent and their work process, and it's hard to really get your foot in the door when no one will even inform you why you're being rejected. We aim to defy that norm.
We aim to particularly represent daring, provocative, rebellious, offbeat and all-around "weird" voices. Have you been told your work wouldn't sell? We think it will, and we're willing to put money on the line to prove it. We do not require an agent - if you have a story you want published and no one else wants it, send it right to us, we'll take a look.
Please reblog for visibility!!!
We are not open for submissions yet - for now, we plan on publishing our first book and fundraising the money required to take on other authors and publish them too. When we do take submissions, we are especially interested in works from the writeblr community as well as all categories listed above! As for our first book...
Would you believe that I, of all people, would start a business to publish people like me?? (Yes, that likely includes you. Yes, you, reading this post).
Also tagging the Karma Killer crew as there's a surprise for y'all...
@aohendo, @literary-artist, @athenswrites, @impaledlotus, @bardic-tales, @creepypyromancer, @marinesocks, @writingpotato07, @hey-its-quill, @dogmomwrites, @andromedatalksaboutstuff, @bpdgotmelike, @j-1173
We greatly appreciate any reblogs you can give, please help us spread the word - starting and maintaining a small business is quite difficult, so we appreciate any support we can get!

Novel Update #3
Starting step 6 on the snowflake method today! I see steps 7 and 8 as quick organizational stuff, really, so I'm okay with rushing through those (both of these steps are charts/spreadsheets, and I LOVE spreadsheets).
I'm very excited to actually start writing my draft novel! May take the day off tomorrow to rest and start my draft with fresh eyes :3
The new edition of my gothic-eldritch novel, HILLAM HALL, is now avaliable in paperback, hardcover, ebook and audiobook. The cover art is by the incredible Aritz Palacin Albeniz (@haticaughtthemoon). Here is a synopsis.
Somewhere on the desolate moors of Victorian England sits a monolithic black house. It is not merely a haunted mansion, but a yawning gateway unto the chaotic evil of the cosmos. Emmaline Heath, a dark-haired young woman fleeing a tortured past, is sent to live in its monstrous wings under the care of her godfather Carax Hillam. But it is not only the sinister Hillam Hall and its guardian that await her there on the blasted heath: with them are a horde of Lovecraftian Elder gods, tortured ghosts, a familiar and fair stranger, and her own immense destiny.
With the help of the souls of two damned lovers, Red Eyre and Black Tom, a strange hare-like familiar called Hum, and her fated and melancholy love from beyond time, Hyland, Emmaline will come to know her own true natureāas a witch, and a being far greater than humankindāand with this knowledge accept her destiny as the one who will close the cosmic gateway the dreaded Hillam Hall sits upon, before the hellish armies of eldritch night can pour forth upon the world.
HILLAM HALL is an epic dark tale that integrates several gothic traditions (classic horror, Lovecraftian cosmic/eldritch, and romance) into an amalgamation of the best elements of each, giving it a singularity that is both rooted in the best horror traditions and fresh in its tonality. This book will appeal to fans of the cosmic horror of H.P. Lovecraft (AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS), the classic gothic works of Edgar Allan Poe (THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER), Mary Shelley (FRANKENSTEIN) and Emily Brontƫ (WUTHERING HEIGHTS), and the dark romances of Anne Rice (THE WITCHING HOUR) while bringing a contemporary feminism and fresh voice of its own upon the trappings of the genre.
If you buy my book in any format and you like it, please, please, please leave it a review. It will help all the spooky people find it. This book is the culmination of work that encompasses almost 15 years of my life. It is my first published novel. Iām writing more, including its sequels, and a series of books about a dynasty of witches in a small, strange town in upstate New York.
My husband and I have been working non-stop on the audiobook for almost a year, and Aritz worked tirelessly on the art. Itās been a labor of love for all of us, and Iām beyond excited to show everyone what we have worked so hard to actualize. Amor est dolor aeternus. Come, enter with us, through the jaws of Hillam Hall.
Paperback.
Hardcover.
Audiobook: iTunes. Audible.
Ebook.
Message me with your questions and business inquiries. I have an Instagram where my husband and I post vintage books from my personal collection, @curiousvolumes. You can find Aritz and more of his very spooky, very beautiful art on Instagram (@blackenedworld) or Etsy (@blackenedworld).

Novel Update 2
Finally finished Step 4! It took a bit longer because I'm insanely into detail so it was hard for me to not make my 1-page summary into 5 (It's 3 pages long, but that's okay).
My story is developing very nicely and I'm glad! I think I'll be ready to start my draft by November 1st :3
obsessed with the way that gothic horror is about horror but never directly. itās not horrific because thereās a haunted house and thatās scary, itās horrific because the monster inside isnāt a monster, itās your grief, your loss, your pride, your desire, your fear. the monster skulking in the shadows, the darkness at the edge of the woods, the haunted house that is too broken to be a homeāthose are manifestations of events that grabbed onto the fabric of time in a fit of abject horror and clamped down so tightly that they couldnāt keep moving forward toward resolution and eventual dissipation like they were supposed to. itās all about the scared child and the mourning mother and the hunger in your gut and the little emptiness in your chest at the end of the day. those things are all little horrors but you canāt approach them directly to understand them, so gothic horror gives us these little metaphors and says āhere play with these for a while and see what you find.ā and all of those metaphors need someone to go back to childhood to release them. you have to care, and be curious and clever, and look for a way to heal the hurt. you have to be so achingly human to survive in gothic horror
