On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."

As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.

As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.

May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.

My life appears to be crisis-free. So... is this a prediction? Or have I weathered the crisis so successfully I didn't even realise the situation was critical? Who knows. Good to know this app believes in me, though.

The thing I hate most in fiction is when a character who was rebellious, counterculture, or nonconforming in some way becomes a more societal acceptable version of themselves, and this is portrayed as a good thing and as character growth.

For example, butch woman or tranmasc characters becoming more feminine and motherly. Or punk characters changing their hair and style of dress to a more culturally acceptable standard.

I know this post and most (if not all) of the reblogs so far are about media, so apologies for derailing, but that last sentence had me thinking how it's true for real life, too. Especially if you work in a corporate job but don't conform to the corporate "look" (my attire is still "office appropriate" [i.e. I usually wear something with a shirt-style collar], I do damn good work, and I'm lucky enough to work in an environment that doesn't stifle personal expression, but I still often get mistaken for being at least a decade younger than I am).

As a cis woman, I think I'm supposed to take this as a compliment?? But really, it's just kinda sad that most people don't think someone expressing themselves with bright/colourful/glittery/metallic makeup and layers of jewellery can be older than, like, 26. And even by 26, I feel like a lot of people are fairly - if not very - mature, so if they look like me, are they being mistaken for teens??

Black, white, grey & beige corporate attire does not equal maturity. Minimal makeup and accessories does not equal maturity. There are no rules, do what makes you happy.

Conformity is not shorthand for maturity.

Because I'm the Pesto Mystic and I had never thought of this before...

Guys!!!!

Cilantro pesto.

Combine cilantro (it can be the parts that are harder to use like stems), EVOO, garlic (I used garlic scapes from my garden), and pepitas/pumpkin seeds in a blender/food processor. Add salt, pepper, and some lime juice afterward.

According to Cunnigham's Green Book, Cilantro (Coriander) is used to love, health, and healing which is pretty much the intention that I try to put into all of my magical cooking so it's a win/win.

This is a great way to use that leftover half a bunch of cilantro from the store or to use up your garden cilantro before it bolts.

I used it as a pseudo-dressing on last night's taco salad but it would definitely taste good on pretty much anything.

I can never use coriander fast enough, there's always a sizeable amount left turning to brown-black goo before I realise... so this sounds like a great idea for me!

My home is the distraction. The kitchen? Right there, with snacks and beverages! Crucially, there are the other projects - been meaning to clear out my wardrobe for the past year, kept putting it off, but now I have a project to do? Well shit, looks like the wardrobe is getting cleared. Etc, etc.

The World War II-era "Simple Sabotage Field Manual" is full of steps that office workers can take to resist leadership.

A declassified World War II-era government guide to “simple sabotage” is currently one of the most popular open source books on the internet. The book, called “Simple Sabotage Field Manual,” was declassified in 2008 by the CIA and “describes ways to train normal people to be purposefully annoying telephone operators, dysfunctional train conductors, befuddling middle managers, blundering factory workers, unruly movie theater patrons, and so on. In other words, teaching people to do their jobs badly.”  Over the last week, the guide has surged to become the 5th-most-accessed book on Project Gutenberg, an open source repository of free and public domain ebooks. It is also the fifth most popular ebook on the site over the last 30 days, having been accessed nearly 60,000 times over the last month (just behind Romeo and Juliet).

It's one of those days when you're feeling like you're one stick short of a good time.

"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is

Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.

Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.

You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.

Sex is not what makes someone an adult.

Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.

Sex is not equally important to everyone.

You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.

You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.

Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.

The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.

Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.
