Do people in your industry really think like you about SC? I’m always afraid the support from bigger media is clickbait.
Also, about your analysis on parallels to coming out and conversion therapy… that would be cool if the writers, but do you think they have that much depth? Not even being sassy lol just curious
- I was talking to a friend a while back who worked in the writer's room of a very popular series with an iconic lead sapphic story. We were discussing the BYG trope and LGBTQ rep issues. She's never seen SG and I simply told her about some of the lines and moments between Supercorp. She was like "Omg THAT IS SO BLATANT. What a joke."
- I was having a conversation with a freelance marketing pro who works with some of the biggest names and studios in Hollywood a week ago, we somehow got on the topic of LGBTQ stuff. I brought up Supergirl, said ONE line to her from SC. The "You really don't believe in magic?" / "I believe in you." thing and she cracked up and said, "You cannot be serious? I've never seen the show and that's INSANE. That's a romantic line, but they're not a couple?"
- I once spoke to a writer from another Arrowverse show who fully agreed Kara and Lena were obviously being shown as being in love, especially after the scene in 5x01.
- Awhile back I was talking to the writer behind a recent popular comic book film about a line I had jokingly referencing SC in a script and this person knew exactly what the ship was. We had to lose the line because the whole conversation changed so it no longer fit, but they knew all about SC and more importantly, they knew about the romantic undertones.
- I was talking to one of my reps about the ship because I was using it as an example of my frustrations with LGBTQ rep in tv/film and he agreed and fully supports my plans. He only watched the first season of the show then lost interest (says a lot) but wasn't at all shocked by the queerbait factor.
- Known Karamel supporter Kevin Smith said after 5x01 on Twitter that that scene was the closest they'd come up to that point of exploring Supercorp (in THAT way).
- Iconic Xena writer Katherine Fugate has entire TW threads about Supercorp and the romantic undertones and chemistry, etc.
- Emily Andras shaded the show for not delivering on SC in the past.
- She-Ra creator once alluded that she stopped watching SG at some point, seemingly because of the bait factor? And then you see the many parallels she wrote into She-Ra that are so much like SC moments, but her characters actually kissed.
- A writer from the show itself showed you guys a script where she wrote in "Supercorp fans everywhere squeal" and a scene where after Mon-El got sent away and Cat basically told Kara that love was still ahead for her, in walked Lena and asked Kara to dinner (but the scene was cut). She also said on TW she "was rooting for those two". Another writer who now writes for Batwoman and wrote the SC-heavy Kaznia episode has liked SC tweets. Etc.
I could go on, but I think all of the above alone... says a lot.
