The word that led to all this was "scry".

Scry? Scry. I shouldn’t be surprised since my phone keeps trying to autocorrect it to “scary”. But seriously. Scry.
Not “macabre.” Not “superfluous.” Not “syzygy” or “stygian” or “precipitous”or any other word that has driven me to the dictionary over the years.
Scry.
When I was a kid I had to write words down when I was reading and look them up or ask my mom later if I couldn’t guess from context. I cannot think of a way to use “scry” that does not make it obvious what it means in context.
Even worse! We all carry a dictionary in our pockets at all times. You can highlight a word and your phone gives “look up” as an option. It has never been easier to find out what a word means as you are reading it! There is literally no excuse.
