Hi! My name is Melanie, and I graduated from UF. I majored in Anthropology, with a minor in the classics. I went to FSU for grad school for Museum Studies. Now I’m at VSU for a library degree. This blog will be about daily life, I guess.

Being back at work has been so busy! Lots of information, so many emails and meetings, and things I had no involvement in now being my responsibility to figure out.

BUT

My baby got admitted to the children’s hospital today! He hasn’t gained any weight in over a week and he’s started eating very little and showing no interest in eating. We don’t know what to do. It’s really scary. He’s only 14 weeks old. Does anyone have any advice? 💔

I can’t believe I go back to work next Friday! Maternity leave has been crazy. I’ve been gone 3 months. I’m worried about going back to work and not remembering how to do anything. And now I’m in charge of my department right before our busiest time of the year. Yikes! 😱

Baby arrived early today, 1/31/26, at 1:16 am!

We went to the hospital at 10 am on 1/30/26 to be assessed because I felt like maybe my water had broken around 5:30 am. I was in early labor, so I stayed all day.

Active labor stated in the evening, was about 4 hours (until midnight), but baby stopped making progress and I was getting fatigued so my doctor asked if I wanted a c-section. It was hard to catch my breath and I was so sweaty. I hadn’t wanted one initially, but I was so tired and in pain and ready to meet my baby.

It wasn’t bad at all! Very quick, and they gave me lots of numbing medicine. I saw baby briefly, but there was a breathing problem so they took him to the NICU to help him out. They said he’s doing better now. 8 lbs 6 ounces! Head circumference is 13.78 inches.

It has been 23 hours and I’m so tired. I’ll stay at the hospital for another 24-36 hours to heal and then hopefully get to go home with baby!

My due date was today and no baby yet. Hopefully he comes soon! I’ll schedule an induction for about a week from now and see how that goes.

Spring semester is going well so far.

I’m the boss of my department at work now! That’s exciting and scary. So many more emails.

I have an interview tomorrow for a promotion at work and I feel qualified but nervous!

Also my grad school spring semester starts tomorrow and I’m 37.5 weeks pregnant.

Update: I moved to Georgia, worked in a Barnes & Noble, substitute taught, got a job at the public library, got a promotion, rescued two kittens, traveled more, started grad school (for an MLIS) and bought a house. I just had my 5 year anniversary at my job and we’re trying for a baby!

I’m not in college anymore, so this blog is not going to be updated more after this. Since I last posted here I was proposed to (when we went to New York City), finished graduate school, got married, had a honeymoon in Rome and Santorini, moved to Texas, got a job at a local community center working with the after school kids, got another job as assistant curator at a music museum, and adopted a cat!

So I have an 18-20 page paper due on the 17th, this next Monday. I thought I had about 7 pages, exaggerated and told my mom and boyfriend I have 12 pages, but when I looked today I only have THREE. I AM GOING TO DIE WITHIN THE WEEK. And she’s coming to visit me on Wednesday to help me move, and the my boyfriend is visiting this weekend. I AM SO SCREWED.

I just played Pokemon Sun for almost 8 hours straight instead of writing my paper. You can tell I’m really procrastinating because I’m posting here.
