"Aroace" Grace being so incredibly touch adverse on Earth to the point that being touch starved is not really a concern of his on the Hail Mary. It is sad that his crew that he does not remember is gone but he does not mourn the loss of potential- even platonic contact that might have come from their being there with him. He does not think about things like hugs, and holding hands, or a gentle hand on his shoulder, or a commending pat on his back.

Then along comes this sentient rock alien that he physically cannot touch without consequences. He has a small silvered scar on his arm to prove just that.

And all of the sudden he's mourning the loss of that sensation. The inability for outside touch. For physical affection. Something he has never craved before but now with Rocky in front of him he aches for it. He is starving for it and it is so immensely frustrating to yearn for something he never wanted before.
