when NASA's Mars rover Opportunity (affectionately Oppy) was hit by a large dust storm, her solar panels couldn't generate enough power to maintain communications. The last message she transmitted back to NASA was "it's getting dark and my battery is low".

NASA tried for 8 months to retrieve communications with Oppy, but in vain. Therefore to bid her farewell, one final transmission was sent by the team. They played her these lines of "I'll be seeing you" by Billie Holiday:

I'll find you in the morning sun And when the night is new I'll be looking at the moon But I'll be seeing you.

Btw the heat *is* why we see water that's not really there, but mirages aren't exactly hallucinations so much as optical illusions:

It's just the changing density of the air refracting light weirdly, so it looks like there's a reflection of the sky on the ground, which our brains often interpret as a pool of water. It can also happen upwards instead of downwards, especially at sea, when the air is much colder near the surface and a warm front appears above it:

Which, btw, is one possible explanation for ghost ship sightings, so that's fun :)

odysseus absolutely does present a threat to penelope if he perceives her as at all unfaithful, and i feel the unfairness of this, and i think people tend to undersell how much tension at least potentially exists between odysseus and penelope. but i'm also like. his reaction, all speculation aside, his actual reaction in the odyssey to her flirting with the suitors is delight, because he immediately ascertains that she is running a con. sorry that they're so in-sync in spite of the forces that try to drive a wedge between them, including their own misgiving hearts. sorry that they invented homophrosyne ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
