The conversation stopped. Not abruptly. Not all at once. It simply seemed to lose its place. One moment, Deacon had been outlining three separate contingency plans involving rooftops and what sounded suspiciously like arson, and the next, neither of them appeared particularly interested in the map anymore. Welcome to the Absaroka wasteland, a Fallout: New Vegas alternate universe that imagines the wild west beyond the Mojave. There are two stories that will be set in this world, populated by oddball settlements and pretend-cowboys. The first, Annie Get Your Gun follows Courier Six as she leaves her home settlement of Jackson Hole in the Absaroka wasteland in former Wyoming. Follow along for more lore and worldbuilding.

coming soon, friends, this story has me by a chokehold. I actually designed this AU for an old fic almost 3 years ago. The fic didn't work out and I deleted it from Ao3, but the world never left my imagination. Now, I have two stories set in this AU that I'm very excited to show the world. There was a steady weight against her temple. The faint scent of worn leather and gun oil. Beneath it, something else she recognized immediately without entirely understanding when she had started recognizing it. Deacon. The thought drifted through her sleepy mind without urgency. This fic is amazing. It was recommended by the amazing @lilacretrograde but I can also personally recommend as I’ve read it and I LOVED it. The humour is amazing, it’s dark and funny and sad and perfectly Deacon.

The picture of Deacon in a silk robe, wandering around a basement, doing needlepoint is going to be in my mind forever in the absolute best way. This is an amazing, 10k one shot, and you need to give it a read.

One of my favorite tropes is post apocalyptic towns being named after dilapidated signs with missing letters, like Novac (no vacancy) and Eaden (dead end). There’s something inexplicable about it

I named a town in my FNV worldbuilding AU "Angel" after the idea that this sign for a brothel in Death Valley, NV would lose most of its letters. The settlement is in the old brothel. ✨

Interesting fun fact, this brothel was originally called "Fran's Ranch," and the eponymous Fran was my dad's godmother. The airplane crashed in 1979 during an air show and was too expensive to move, so Fran used it for advertising. Now, it's a ghost-town explorer pilgrimage site, as seen with the graffiti.

Deacon closed his eyes briefly. “Missile launcher.” Whisper sighed. “Missile launcher.” The Gunner fired again. The missile impacted much closer. The entire building seemed to lurch sideways. A filing cabinet collapsed dramatically in the background. A desk fan fell off the cabinet.  Honestly, a little theatrically. Deacon was beginning to suspect the building had rehearsed this. “Okay,” he said, standing abruptly. “We’re leaving.” Whisper blinked. “We’re in the middle of—” Another missile screamed toward them. Deacon pointed emphatically at the incoming argument. “We are leaving, Whisper!”
