Things that make me love Dean Winchester so much and wonder how he is not everyone’s favourite character

He takes care of and is always kind to every kid he comes across (Lucas in Dead in the Water, Cole in Death Takes A Holiday, Katie in Swap Meat, Tyler in Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie, Timmy in Bad Boys, not to mention the big examples like Ben, Krissy, Claire)

He always tries to warn about and persuade people away from hunting for their sakes

All he wants to do is just. Save people. All of them

He only started outwardly caring about him going to hell and being tortured forever at the possibility of becoming someone who hurts others himself

He taught an angel love and free will by exemplifying those things himself

He made a friend in Purgatory

He goaded Eve Mother of Monsters into accidentally killing herself

He reverse-possessed an archangel and trapped him in his mind

He got thee Death to give him his scythe and his ring (twice)

He then took off Death’s ring, even though he knew it meant his deal with Death was off, to try to save someone

He wanted to use the Hand of God to save the people on the wartime vessel despite having known them for approximately half an hour

Punched god

He told Bobby “What I do have is a GED and a give-em-hell attitude and I’ll figure it out” and didn’t even believe what he was saying

Desperate and beaten-down and backed into a corner he gave Sam a wink, looked Zachariah in the eye and stabbed him in the face

He crashed the apocalypse, featuring two archangels wearing his younger brothers’ faces, with Rock of Ages as his soundtrack and was ultimately the reason the world got saved

He literally just wants to go to the beach with his family. He wants to run a little bar called Rocky’s. He wants to mow the lawn. He wants the freedom to have peace. 

He cooks for his loved ones he literally cooks for his loved ones

He smiles so brightly

HE WUVS HUGS he literally will just hug people and cup their faces he is so affectionate

He goes all soft during one-night-stands and looks reverently at whoever he’s with

He takes ownership of every decision he makes

He couldn’t bring himself to murder an innocent woman even as a demon

He convinced Cole who was actively holding a gun on him at the time to let go of his years-long murderous revenge quest against him with nothing but his words

Literally under the influence of The-Curse-Of-Killing-Your-Brother, with Sam looking at him and assuring him he wouldn’t hate Dean, and Death behind him assuring him it was the right thing to do, he still couldn’t bring himself to do do it

Same with Jack, who agreed Dean shooting him would be for the best, who was a danger to the world and who Dean was furious at for having killed Mary, even after Chuck promised to “give her back”- he still didn’t do it, couldn’t do it

He cried for the suffering of all of humanity when he met god

He saved the world with compassion, literally saved it just by reaching out to Amara

He said yes to Michael for love

When Jack had a nightmare he didn’t give him a .45. He told him he has them as well and reassured him

He named the dog miracle!!!

When offered a favour by Death he didn’t bargain for his own life, or the lives of the people he was grieving, he just asked her to release the ghosts of the haunted house he’d been investigating

He asked Chuck to bring back the birds. I don’t know why this one gets me so much but he.

He is humanity he is love he is free will, because all of those things are connected, and all of those things are embodied in him

“I'd started working. I had been in an abusive relationship and I was just in one of those like, you know, you're 17 and you're trying to figure everything out kind of phases. And Jensen was really the first person in the industry or otherwise to recognize that in me. I think because there was such a shift from the first time that he saw me to then when I showed up. And I think there was a lot of that that he understood and had related to from his own life.

And it was nice because during that time, he really did kind of take on more of a mentor role with me. And he sat me down and he had some hard conversations with me about the industry and life and relationships. And that was something that, it was like the first time I was ever hearing those things. It was the first time I ever heard that perspective and someone was really that honest with me.

“He didn't have to do that. He easily could have gone back to his trailer and done his own thing. And instead, he took his lunchtime and his breaks and stuff like that to kind of shepherd me. And I think at a time when I really needed it. And it worked. It kept me away from a lot of darker stuff.”

in an ep where the villain is killing everyone, the writer chose to focus on romantic loss. not ppl losing their friends or family members. charlie loses her gf. sam loses his gf. dean loses cas. that’s not subtle. that’s text. cas was dean’s love interest. dean loved him back.

okay we really need to talk about it

I guess every person who believes in bi!Dean has ever thought “but why has this silly guy never come out? He’s obviously flustered by men but he never really tries”.

And!

There’s the cut scene from 14x14, “Ouroboros”, where Dean says John used him as a bait for evil truckers.

And if we think more than a second, we can see young Dean with his big green eyes and plump lips, playing innocence and taking dirty hints to distract the monster.

So. One more time.

Dean knocks on the door, smiles, flirts, winks and finally gets inside.

John is getting ready. Dean is still in the truck cabin with a lustful monster.

How far is he going? Hardly think John cares. He’s waiting for the perfect moment, while Dean is being touched or maybe even kissed, because Dean is a good soldier. And good soldiers don’t ruin the Hunt.

It wasn’t one time or two.

“Dad made me do it all the time”.

Dean was being touched by men against his will constantly, so over time he just couldn’t perceive gay people as he used to do.

We all talk about John being homophobic, but what if it wasn’t the reason?

What if Dean just couldn’t imagine himself with a man and not see all these truck drivers instead?

What if that’s why he never flirts with men in early seasons.

He still remembers too well. He still sees not enough positive examples.

What if that’s why a little later even drunk he could only flirt, but not sleep with men. Because sleep means lust. And men’s lust is disgusting and dangerous.

What if only years later he watches “Brokeback mountain” for the first time, witnesses Jack Twist’s love and yearning and pain and thinks “wow. that was pure. that was real”.

What if the process we can see through all the seasons is not a getting rid of the internalized homophobia, but a healing?

why did the Ackles family choose Connecticut? Do they have a connection to that area?

Umm… IIRC, I think it had to do with proximity to Canada with all Jensen’s filming? I could be wrong but I do remember that being at least one of the factors.

Jensen has said a couple of times that proximity to where he was working (in this case Toronto) was a part of it. He also said something about wanting to be far away from Hollywood so when he was home his focus was his family.

I’m sure the Ackles had a myriad of reasons for choosing Connecticut.

Hell they’re always in the top ten in education in the country and Texas is something like 40th.

I'm sure education and having daughters has a lot to do with it. CT and the general area is pretty safely blue. Texas on the other hand is clearly trying to Handmaid's Tale women as much as possible. High education standards - for all their kids but we know Arrow in particular is extremely intelligent.

Proximity to New York City, with it's shows and museums and culture in general plus it's a relatively short trip to Boston as well(a few hours by car but you can also fly or take a train).

One of my favorite kinds of Destiel fics feature Dean getting to see and feel Cas's wings for the first time. Especially the ones in which Cas has been made to feel, or has convinced himself that they are hideous, and a mark of shame. The ones in which Cas hasn't taken proper care of them in a long time because he's so disgusted by them, and can't stand to look at them believing that his wings, and he himself are undeserving. Except to Dean, those wings are the most magnificent, most awe inducing things he's ever seen. I go absolutely buckwild for our angel getting to feel and hear just how beautiful, loved, and desired he is. The ones in which Dean takes care of Cas, grooms his wings, and decides that, no matter how long it takes, he won't give up until someday Cas sees his wings the same way he does.

Even better if it turns into filthy smut eventually😏🤤

Ugh I just love when the wing kink porn is mixed with mushy hurt/comfort, fluff, body worship, and these two idiots actually using their words.
