I am weak in front of Minthara in translucent clothes 🛐
That’s what you want, isn’t it? To lose yourself in me.
I drew this last year, but it remains my personal favorite thing I’ve drawn of Astarion.
This line hit hard my first playthrough. The glimpse behind the mask, the delivery of the line and the fact that when he’s asked what he wants, he can’t articulate it. I related. I knew I needed to learn more about his character, but I didn’t know how much he would come to mean to me. I used blue tones to try to capture some of the blue lighting in the scene. Hopefully I managed to capture some of the emotion too.

Today's the last day of April, and to belatedly celebrate my birthday I'd like to share a comic with you: it's about getting revenge against the people who wronged you, and it's called Werewolf's Lament.
Werewolf's Lament is printed with florescent orange and mint risograph inks on light brown paper; cut and folded in the shape of a wolf. Physical copies are for sale in my online shop.

I accidentally started a new bg3 series with male companions, flowers, blood and trauma. I feel like I've put too much stuff on Gale's piece but idk. I know what I'm gonna do for Halsin, but I struggle with Wyll's part so If anyone has any cool flowers/plants suggestions - feel free to hit me up with it!

Also, i am thinming about Ascension as the intended good ending and character arc (I don't think it is, but, you know, I'm playing in the space.)
And wow, how uncompelling. Man starts off cynical and self motivated and selfish, learns nothing, gets big house. All his problems are fixed by magic. His actions have no negative consquences.
I mean it's a doozy of a power fantasy. But that's barely a story.
To be fair, one could certainly argue that Ascended Astarion learns something. Perhaps he learns never to be a victim again. Perhaps he learns not to depend on others. Perhaps he learns that no one is coming to save him, and that the only way to guarantee his own safety is to acquire enough power to protect himself.
And yet, if we reduce the arc to its essential structure, the result is fairly simple:
he wants power;
he obtains power;
he was right from the beginning.
Which raises an interesting question: what exactly did Astarion learn?
Narratively speaking, very little.
His worldview is never truly challenged. His fundamental beliefs are never disproven. The possibility that he might be wrong about power, control, fear, or domination never even really presents itself. The answer is simply that he did not have enough power.
In that sense, we are not really witnessing character growth.
We are witnessing confirmation.
In practical terms, the character lacks a transformational arc in the strict sense of the term, at least according to the conventional principles of character writing. Which would make the narrative rather flat.
Paradoxically, however, I think the Ascended route gains much of its depth precisely because the Spawn route exists. The two paths function as complementary halves of the same character study.
Two sides of the same coin.
Two different responses to the same trauma.
Two different ways of confronting fear, vulnerability, freedom, and survival.
Without the Spawn route, Ascension risks becoming little more than a power fantasy. Together, however, the two paths create something far more interesting: the portrait of a character standing at a crossroads, with two radically different futures emerging from the very same wounds.
Analysis is spot-on. I guess part of my problem with the Ascendant storyline is that in response to pain or trauma, there are (broadly speaking) two main worldviews that develop:
I was hurt, I didn't deserve it, and this should never happen to anyone else.
I was hurt, I didn't deserve it, but it happened to me, so why shouldn't it happen to them?
The Ascension leans into the latter philosophy hard; it's more than just callousness, it's a desire to cause pain simply because you can, and I don't find that appealing at all. It's weak. It's boring.
The spawn route is for more interesting to me, for all the reasons discussed above.
So, petition to rename post-epilogue Spawn Astarion as Radiant Astarion!
Really, there are three Astarions in the game:
The Spawn, who is experiencing freedom for the first time and wondering how to make this state of affairs permanent,
The Ascendant, who allows his fear to dictate the rest of his existence,
and the Radiant Hopeful, who rejects fear in favor of growth and healing.
Yes, if you reject the Ascension, he remains a spawn but he's not at all the same and I think it's important to highlight that.
*gasp* guys, LOOK AT THIS
I'm not even joking, this is so damn good and I haven't been able to stop staring at it
That linework, that lighting... just unreal. @yevyanko is ridiculously talented and really knocked it out of the park with this one ♥️
Forgotten By History
Female firefighters at Pearl Harbor (1941).
Donna Tobias - the first woman to graduate from the US Navy’s Deep Sea Diving School in 1975.
Brave women of the Red Cross hitting the beach at Normandy.
Dottie Kamenshek was called the best player in women’s baseball and was once recruited to play for a men’s professional team.
Kate Warne - Private Detective. Born in New York City, almost nothing is known of her prior to 1856 when, as a young widow, she answered an employment advertisement placed by Alan Pinkerton. She was one of four new agents the Pinkerton Detective Agency hired that year and proved to be a natural, taking to undercover work easily. She had taken part in embezzlement and railroad security cases when in 1861 the Pinkertons developed the first lead about an anti-Lincoln conspiracy.
Catherine Leroy, female photographer in Vietnam.
The three women pictured in this incredible photograph from 1885 – Anandibai Joshi of India, Keiko Okami of Japan, and Sabat Islambouli of Syria – each became the first licensed female doctors in their respective countries. The three were students at the Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania; one of the only places in the world at the time where women could study medicine.
Female Samurai Warrior - Onno-Bugeisha - Female warrior belonging to the Japanese upper class. Many women engaged in battle, commonly alongside samurai men. They were members of the bushi (samurai) class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war.
One of the most feared of all London street gangs from the late 1880’s was a group of female toughs known as the Clockwork Oranges. They woulde later inspire Anthony burgess’ most notorious novel. Their main Rivals were the All-female “the Forty Elephants” gang.
Maureen Dunlop de Popp, Pioneering female pilot who flew Spitfires during Second World War. She joined the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) in 1942 and became one of a small group of female pilots who were trained to fly 38 types of aircraft.
In 1967, Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston marathon. After realizing that a woman was running, race organizer Jock Semple went after Switzer shouting, “Get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers.” However, Switzer’s boyfriend and other male runners provided a protective shield during the entire marathon. The photographs taken of the incident made world headlines, and Kathrine later won the NYC marathon with a time of 3:07:29.
Women have always participated in fighting; whether that is in war or in breaking down barriers that have been set in front of us by society.
Take inspiration from our foremothers and continue breaking down barriers, wherever you are.

nothing to do with my blog but how could I not reblog this???
Hey, quick point - your image for Onna Bugeisha is actually a kabuki actress. I know, because I’ve used the image for presentations on the subject. In her stead may I introduce Niijima Yae, aka Yamamoto Yaeko.
Born in 1845.
In 1868, fought at the Battle of Aizu. Her father was the gunnery instructor, and she was trained on a Spencer carbine, which she used to defend the castle.
1871, divorced her husband and went to Kyoto to find her brother, who had been taken as a POW.
1871-1898, remarried a western-educated man, co-founded two schools (including a girls’ school), became a certified Tea Master and flower arranging instructor.
1890, following the death of her husband, became a Red Cross nurse. Served in the First Sino-Japanese War (1894-5) leading a team of 40 nurses, and the Russo-Japanese War (1904). Decorated for her service in both.
I’m proud of people adding their own knowledge to this.
“but adding women to [insert title] isn’t accurate!” women existed back then too, baby. history was just written by men, for men
