I am just wondering if it would ever be possible to make pikmin. They bring me so much joy. I want a yellow one. I like their ears. They can also provide power. Maybe a blue one to play with in the snow or rain or in the pool. But how in the world would one engineer such a creature? A plant with a brain and sensory organs/resistance to elements/conducting abilities?
I suppose making them organic would be bad. Though organic would be one for the history books and merit lots of money.
Does copyright even cover organic matter?
I feel it would be wrong to patent, copyright, and/or trademark (somehow) organic matter and/or a lifeform.
I legit need to know now if anyone made Pikmin if Nintendo could sue them. If in the United States, it would go to the Supreme Court, then new laws will be made about ownership of lifeforms. An issue with this: that would be slavery BUT said lifeform's only purpose is to serve. So. What would they rule?
Pikmin serve. They do whatever you want. So they just couldn't exist. They would fall into the wrong hands.
I think blue ones and red ones would be safe. Drowning and fire rescues. Or other retrieval, forensic perhaps. Could you imagine a blue pikmin meeping while holding a murder weapon thrown into the river to rid of evidence? I don't think they have enough cognitive ability to process such a thing though. I think their world is just "things." Good or bad.
Red love to fight so maybe not make those. Just send 100 on someone you hate. Little pikmin beating the absolute shit out of a human being sounds amazing. The thing is, you couldn't even charge them with anything because they literally just follow orders. And again, not much cognitive ability. Could you imagine being charged with assault because you sent a gang of pikmin on someone's ass?
