I think I'll be taking a break from tumblr for awhile. I've done my best to curate my experience, but liberal usage of blacklists, filtering, blocking, etc. just isn't enough to keep the bullshit off my dash, and I'm too tired and depressed for this shit right now.

this could go on with endless examples, but for a bunch of people who claim they “notice” patterns, it’s notable that they aren’t recognizing what’s happened to themselves.
I’m acutely aware that scrolling around to document this garbage does next to nothing other than record it (and spike my stress levels lol), and the futility is frustrating/angering/frightening/saddening in varying measures every day.
but we’re being gaslit that this isn’t happening, and I refuse to be a party to the questions later of, “how did that happen?”

I think some people act so allergic to nuanced thought because when they hear people recommend it, they can only envision nuance for the sake of nuance, or for the public appearance of engaging in it, as an aesthetic value and signaled virtue. Ergo, that anyone who encourages nuance in general would forgo the truth in more unequivocal matters in their commitment to splitting hairs, like the loudest self-ascribed centrists are often known for doing. This tendency of assumption is a form of projection, because they cannot imagine someone sharing an opinion for reasons aside from virtue signaling. In this essay I will....
There's so many horror games about having to try to weed out and deal with inhuman imposters, but I want one where the script is flipped. You are something inhuman, you are an imposter, and if you want to survive you have to blend into a world that is trying to hunt you down and destroy you. You aren't human, but you must masquerade as one and infiltrate their world, or you will die.
I actually think we need to start inverting more Horror premises/tropes.
Like "You have to venture into the scary insane asylum!" VS "You're a patient who was admitted by force to an asylum, and you are very clearly in real danger, but everyone is pretending that you're just deluded, and are essentially leaving you to die because they don't really see you as a person."
I feel like there's a lot of Horror tropes built off of the fear of the other, when in reality it's actually often the other who is in danger. Maybe we could start recognising that more.
Interesting how the first half of the post has picked up popularity while the second part, which perhaps clarifies the idea of the original post, hasn't.
It's been interesting to see what media people are recommending based on the first post alone. A lot of recommendations for games/franchises like World of Darkness, Carrion, Kill All Humans, Among Us, etc. It's interesting because these are games that put you into the shoes of the violent other that has to infiltrate, without actually challenging the idea that the other is a threat. They actually parrot the ideas of the other as violent.
Funnily enough, the people recommending the comedy game Octodad understand the post much better than most of the people recommending horror media. A few mentions of Am I Nima, which isn't finished yet but does look like it could be what I am describing, so brownie points to the people recommending that.
But everyone saying stuff like "This is just being Trans/Autistic/Etc" really gets it, like really really gets it. Horror always communicates the fears and anxieties of the people who create it, this post was basically: "What if instead of communicating the fear of the other, we communicated the fears of the others, which are actually vastly more legitimate than the dominant groups fear of the other. We should recognise that it is overwhelmingly the others who are the ones who actually suffer and die, all for the perceived "saftey" and "comfort" of the dominant group."
This idea is about transphobia, it is about ableism, about anti-imigrant rhetoric and white supremacy, about queerphobia, it's about all of it. It is horror from the perspective of minority groups. It is the twisting of a trope built upon reactionary fears and narratives in order to critique them, it is a direct allegory for all those experiences you are describing.
Overall, it's just interesting to see who gets it and who doesn't.
idk what other disabled person needs to hear this but if you need someone to do something for you that would be very difficult for you to do but very easy for them to do, that is a small favor. you dont have to feel gratitude and guilt at scale based on how hard it would be for you to do it disabledly
also a more general point: you dont have to feel guilty when people do things for you. if someone is offering, or if you ask and they say yes, that means they want to do it. if for some reason they are pretending to be okay with it, that is not your fault, it is theirs. this goes for things you are incapable of doing, things that would be difficult for you to do, and even things that you could do without difficulty. even if youre not disabled. if someone cares about you they should be willing to help you out in the ways that they are able to.
one of the many many problems with trying to discuss anything with randos on insta is that they usually cannot actually understand what i am saying.
like i told one of them she was copy-pasting from her existing playbook (ie she was applying a popular concept to something it didn’t apply to), and her response was “playbook is crazy, i’m literally just a college student 😭” bc she didn’t know what playbook meant, or thought it meant something else.
in another instance, this guy thought that saying something antisemitic in his vid was brave because he was risking being silenced by the cabal, so i made a comment referencing the fact that he thought he was speaking truth to power, but he really wasn’t. another commenter said actually he was, because since he upset me that means he has power over me. they clearly had not encountered the phrase “speaking truth to power” and could not figure out from context what it meant.
it feels like a lot of people just put the words i say in a shake ‘n bake bag and shake it around and then pull them out at random to try to understand my comments.
and those are just two examples, there’s tons more i’ve encountered. ie situations where it’s not even that people disagree with me (though they do) it’s that they cannot parse my comments and instead of asking for clarification they just substitute their own interpretation.
obviously this is a waste of time and i should delete the app… but like… for all we make the “piss on the poor” joke i think a lot of people’s literacy skills are genuinely really low

idk what neurodivergent young adult needs to hear this but you are NOT supposed to give 100% at your job. I've gotten more promotions and raises since I started giving 40-60%, which my evil CEO uncle informed me is what bosses actually expect when they say 110%. My mental health has improved tremendously. I've spent 2 out of 5 workdays secretly writing my novel for the last 2 years and I've never been more respected and appreciated. Also--when you see glaring wasteful errors in the company's operating systems, say absolutely nothing! Embrace inefficiency. It is your friend in this capitalist hellscape.

Start on day one. It's almost impossible to scale back if you started out giving 100% —it might be possible though, so don't give up hope.
If you can get away with it, 'waste' roughly half of your time. You can work on a personal project if IT won't clock you, or go for long walks if you can sneak out of the office. I walked 3-4 miles every day when I started my current job. I also walked to Barnes & Noble to sit on the floor and read comics. I've spent a few days just watching TikToks or Fall of Civilizations. If you have Work From Home days, buy a mouse jiggler! (Don't install mouse jiggler software, that shit's traceable.)
If you're still not sure, pay close attention to how much work your worst coworker is doing, and copy that. I bet you it will be 40-60% of what you feel you could easily do, especially if they are 50+.
Never finish anything immediately. If you want to get a project done, knock it out, and then set a reminder to send it at least 2-3 days later. I fuck this one up the most, if I'm honest, 'cause shocking people with how fast I can accomplish things is like a drug.
Remember!!!! Being the fastest and the best will get you NOTHING—except possibly the kind of attention that gets you abused and fired. Promotions for hard work are a myth. It's capitalist propaganda you MUST expunge from your brain. Aim to be the worker your manager expects, not the one they're impressed by—except in a social sense. I got a $2 raise for singing in 3 part harmony with my bosses once.

I've made this exact post like 3 different times atp but. It's endlessly funny when people (especially tech company people) treat Asimov's three laws as a legit proposed framework for Artificial Intelligence safety when like. Nearly every single Asimov story they're featured in involves something going wrong as a result of a robot trying to follow three three laws in a situation that makes execution of the laws ambiguous or contradictory. They're not a guideline for legit AI programming they're a plot device designed to cause problems due to interacting in weird ways with complicated hypothetical situations!
